Google shows top-secret Brit nuke base

Fudzilla: "A top-secret British nuclear defence base has made an appearance on Google Earth when previously it was blurred.

The base in Faslane has got the British defence establishment in a tizzy because they think that the new high-resolution images could help terrorists."

Its not top secret then isit |-)

Bonsai12146296d ago

this just means they updated their photos. its not "unblurred." before, their photos were probably several years old and of not high resolution. they refresh their images every now and then, and this one happens to get refreshed.

i want to see my lake house, but its in the middle of nowhere, so its all blurred since the resolution isn't high. maybe they'll change it so i can spot it..

"According to the Sun it will mean that it would make it easy for terrorists to launch accurate mortar or rocket attacks as soon as the terrorists get them."

BAN TEH GOOGLE ERATH!! TEH TERRORISTS BE USIN IT ZOMG!!!!1111!!!

When will people grow up? People like that are the real terrorists, causing public panic and fear.

P4KY B6295d ago

There is a car park on the hill above it where you can look down on the base.

And you can camp on the beach opposite and see everything you'd want to.I camped there during some Nato exercises when there were over 40 ships at the base.

@mint royal and SpoonyRedMage

Part of your arguments are flawed. I'm not trying to be confrontational like linux, but Europe didn't need American involvement to stop Hitler early. The reason that he expanded the war so much is because Britain and France continually gave into his demands with their appeasment policy. This allowed his confidence to grow and he just kept taking as long as he could. Also, the reason that America became less active after The Treaty of Versailles was signed and the league of nations formed was because of Europe. European countries agreed with few of Wilsons wishes for the League of Nations, even though it was his idea, which caused the League to be flawed in a way that America no longer wanted to be a part of it. In the treaty, they also insisted on punishing Germany rather than following America's advice. This punishment is what created the anger within Germany that eventually lead to WWII.

Also, there are too many statements made by people (mostly british) about how those stupid Americans do this and that. We're all just people and while we do vote our leaders into office, there's no way to predict every action they will take. Don't make generalized statements about the people of a county because of it's government's actions.

mint royale6296d ago

I actually agree with alot of what you are saying. I origally responding to linux's dim minded views statement that Britain would be German with America.

I agree that Britain and France appeased Hitler but that was due to 2 reasons. The first being we didn't want another destructive war and secondly even if we had to fight we were incapable as we were ill prepared and needed to buy time. Hitler gained confidence from the stance of all the allies and that includes America that made it obvious they were willing to grant him concessions to countries they didn't even own in order to avoid war.

I also agree that the US didn't join the LoN for the reasons you stated. But that doesn't mean they had to turn to protectioist and isolationist policies at a time when the world needed a leader. That role was laid to America on a plate but they chose not to accept.

But like I said thank you for rationally putting together awell constructed argument + bubbles

SpoonyRedMage6296d ago

Well Wilson actually agreed with Britain who didn't want to punish Germany(our trading partners at the time), it was mostly the french and the reason he didn't get involved is because all the other American politicians and stuff wanted isolationism. I was just stating some facts anyhow, not really interested in the subject. Kind of don't like the "America saved Britain thing" because it's not true but we would've been devastated after the war.(more so than we actually were).

mint royale6296d ago

...

My whole point of entering this thread was to argue against linux who accused everyone of making up crap and using generalisations but then proceeds with his first post to arrogantly claim the US stopped the UK from being Hitler's holiday home. Arrogance? I thought that was the view of America that you wanted to play down not play up?

@the killer? Do you actually belive that? I can think of better ways than the senseless death of 9/11 to 'fake' a war. I give you Iraq as an exhibit. The afganistan war was justified as it rid the country of a terrible oppressive regime. The fact that America recieved support in military numbers from so many countries for the war shows it was justified in the international community. Sadly the same cannot be said for Iraq but that is irrelevant to the point. (Even if I have one anymore!)

You mean the same Americans that saved your asses in World War I and II and kept your island from becoming Hitler's island resort?

Wenis6296d ago

Nope he means the current Americans who are fighting a war to gain more oil resources and whose companies enslave the people of china to make materialistic objects for us for 10 cents an hour.

mint royale6296d ago

maybe if America didn't isolate itself in the interwar period and act like the world doesn't care then Hitler would never have had a chance to act out his atrocities.

Apples and oranges.

Eamon6296d ago

I really despise Americans who think they are righterous and have a right to police the world.

LinuxGuru6296d ago (Edited 6296d ago )

Then why don't you put your money where your collective mouths are and come on over here and do something about it!

Or you could just sit there and whine behind your computer screens.

And sorry, that wasn't Americans fighting this war, it was an administration fighting the war that happened to be in control of our military. Saying that 300 million Americans (or even half that) were all for that is just plain stupid.

@ mint royale

"maybe if America didn't isolate itself in the interwar period and act like the world doesn't care then Hitler would never have had a chance to act out his atrocities."

Whoa, dude. So you're saying it was America's fault that Hitler wasn't stopped until 1945? That's a pretty big double standard there, pal. America decides to "police the world", and we get crap for it. We decide NOT to, and then the whole world goes apesh*t and calls us isolationist.

Well here's news for you, buddy. Between WWI and II, America was recovering from an economic DEPRESSION. Ever heard of one of those? You can't really just waltz out and fight a war when your country is bleeding from both ends.

evrfighter6296d ago

I agree. Curse those handsome devils!!!

SpoonyRedMage6296d ago

We really shouldn't be arguing this but just to add some facts and theories.

America didn't save us in World War I they got overconfident and ended up nearly having as many casualties as us in a quarter of the time.

Some think Churchill manipulated America in World War II and could have stopped the Pearl Harbor attack.

And I think he means because the American formed the league of nations, sorted the treaty of versailles and then abandoned Europe and the strict treatment of Germany due to the treaty is what caused many to support Hitler.

We were in the depression too there Linux as well and that was only in the late twenties/early thirties.

mint royale6296d ago (Edited 6296d ago )

my god.

I'm saying America's presence would have helped the allies an awful lot (especially in the league of nations) and to have them on board at the start of the war would have forced hitler to be more cautious about his foreign policy plans. As it was Britain was left with a major ally in France (which fell about as quickly as I type this post) leaving a Britain vs the rest of Europe situation. How was Britain suppossed to stop Hitler without help from abroad (looking specifically towards America as they are ou closest allies).

And yes I have heard of a depression. Guess what - Britain and Europe went through the exact same depression and it was rearming for war that helped alievate downward pressures and help foster employment. The depression had nothing to do with America not entering the war in 39 - recovery happened in after 32 before another smaller recession occured in 37 which was alieviated by demand from war industries. Learn some history.

@4.2

The oil argument is tired... If nothing else be smart enough to know that Iraq is more important for its position in the world for the US to have as a friendly territory than it is its oil production. We are not stealing the oil or even profiting from it (see oil prices) it DOES make the extremist nations in the region think twice about doing anything too rash since the US has a staging area right next door. I am fine with anyone disagreeing with the US doing this, but don't be a simpleton, think for yourself. Not just what "cool" bands, actors and poster toting idiots tell you to think.

Not even commenting on the "enslaving" comment.

Eamon6296d ago

You cannot deny that America has caused countless number of innocent people to die.

They support Israel who massacre the citizens in Gaza.
They bombed civilians in Iraq killing so many.
They're now bombing areas in Pakistan killing so many people.

America only acts when they see benefit for themselves. And please don't justify this fact with nationalism. We're all humans. Fighting for your "nation" is stupid.

LinuxGuru6296d ago (Edited 6296d ago )

You're a completely uneducated and crap-spewing person when it comes to history, eamon.

Please, just stop talking like you know the intentions of every single action our country takes, when in fact, you don't know sh*t and you only spew what your liberal friends and media think.

Why don't you do some research on history, war, and politics and then come back here after you've formed your own opinions instead of making mass assumptions and generalizations when in fact you couldn't be more wrong.

Because we all know Americans jack off to watching innocent civilians die from our bombs, right? And we laugh with joy and jump and holler and hoot and cry tears of happiness when a Pakistani child gets blown to bits. /END SARCASM

Ignoramus.

F*cking unbelievable what some people think and say.

PR0NE6296d ago (Edited 6296d ago )

so just to make it clear, money is what makes the world spin :p.. simple and easy... there are no heroes, philanthropes, etc... there are oppurtunities, poeple who take those oppurtunities and the DUMB poeple... So if i am to classify america, it would be the oppurtunist, is it a good thing? a bad thing? i'll leave you to wonder about that... but please don't tell me that anyone(big organization, country) is doing anything for free or just for good, it's not the big conspiracy theory or anything like that, it's simple fact, it's back to square one, money makes the world spin :p...
btw about the iraqi war argument, well USA as a nation took a hit from that war, but members of the US administration benifited from this war by reaping unimaginable profits by their oils companies..
now tell me where i am wrong, i dare u :p

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio29d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing29d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9229d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit29d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing29d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9229d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
