So when will we see the first Blu-Ray is dead article, and from whom?

I say Cnet.com,they've been sticking close to Microsofts balls these past few months.

Elven66300d ago

....what does CBHD have to do with Microsoft? And you DO realize Microsoft is a member of the BDA right?

If you want to be a fanboy then go for it, just do it over their --->

And FYI, CBHD is a Asia only format which probably won't see much of a presence outside of it.

PirateThom6300d ago

Microsoft isn't on the BDA.

However, Sony do back CBHD.

Elven66300d ago

Sony does not back CBHD, they are backing Blu Ray in China so basically their is going to be a format war there now.

CBHD vs Blu Ray

I think they are, they are making Windows Blu Ray friendly, to do so wouldn't you have to be in the BDA?

PirateThom6300d ago

Eh, kind of, you can be a supporter, but you don't have to join the BDA.

And you are right, about Sony, I thought they had backed CH-DVD due to piracy concerns.

YoMeViet6300d ago

Don't kid yourself MS hates Blu-Ray with a rage. They were the MAIN supporter for HD-DVD, even more than Toshiba themselves who made the disc. They want to make money off of it but they are not in the supporting members in the BDA according to the BDA site.

_Q_6300d ago

More than the one who created and makes the most money off of it?
Thats like saying I promoted Jay-Z before he or more than he promoted himself. ??????? WTF
And someone agreed? lol hit that disagree all you like guys but that makes no sense...

YoMeViet6300d ago

No, its like Chris Brown making a record and Def Jam Records supporting and promoting it more than he is himself, remember the HD-DVD add-on for the Xbox360? Or remember the 50 million dollar under-the-table deal with Paramount Pictures? MS's efforts for HD-DVD were beyond generous, I doubt Toshiba themselves could match that kind of support. MS(GodFather of HD-DVD) is a better supporter of HD-DVD than Toshiba(it's own parent).

P.S. Damn the violent Chris Brown, crazy woman beater...

dcbronco6300d ago

But they were completely pro Blu-ray and Sony before the wheels came off. They couldn't say the PS3 and Blu-ray were great enough early on. It would be nice to just see some honest stories from all of the press, and blogs, for a change. But the press has kinda always stunk.

carnex6300d ago (Edited 6300d ago )

Now did M$ support HDDVD more then toshiba
Simple. toshiba already agreed to drop HD-DVD since they saw HD-DVD is a lost cause. To many companies are suporting it and SONY is supporting it which meant half of the Holywood blockbusters will never be on HD-DVD. Anyone with any knowledge of state of movie business, BDA and SONY's reputation in movie business knew HD-DVD had no chance from the get-go. An then M$ came and spit out 100M US$ to Toshiba, 50M US$ to Paramount and who knows how much more and to whom. Microsoft knew that HD-DVD is dead too but they didn't care. As long as they could prolong adoption of BD as standard and hope to promote Digital Download as standard. As we know DD ended up as viable solution only for those who have really fast link and don't really care about picture quality which is in most cases worse then standard DVD.
Sad thing is people blame SONY for their crappy investments in HD-DVD players instead of Microsoft...

AAACE56300d ago

Your comment sounds as stupid as your name!

If MS was the main supporter behind HD-DVD, then why did they not include the drive as part of the hardware? You could buy one externally that only played movies, but not much more than that.

For you and the other idiots out there, there is no money in fanboyism, have you received a check yet? I think not.

It makes no sense for MS to hate a format in any way. I am sure that if Sony wanted to make a console with MS, MS would be willing to, because it saves them money and allows them to make more money.

They didn't want to commit to a format because it would be a big gamble for a console. Especially if you don't own either one. Sony was able to do it, because they basically tell fanboys this is what you want, and this is what you will get.

MS was just trying to help out with the HD-DVD thing.

Before any of you fanboys turn ugly, let me show you what I mean. You are a Sony fanboy. You directly support them in any form. Now you being a Sony fanboy, would not own a Ps3 and just a Mad catz controller would you?

HD-DVD knew it needed as much exposure as possible, so they asked MS to incorporate it in their console. MS didn't like the risk involved, and said they would create a stand alone player for it.

Th3 Chr0nic6300d ago

Ms did not include the HD dvd hardware in the 360 cause it would have raised hardware costs too high. and also why would they risk putting something in their machine if they are not sure if it will last. could you imagine if all 360 were made with HD DVD built in, after hd dvd got dropped 360 would have looked extremely bad.

pwnsause6300d ago

its China's proprietary format, supposively it was designed to combat piracy in their own way.

Elven66300d ago

Its mostly HD DVD with added Chinese government backed protection

Zeus Lee6300d ago

Just because you fail to understand the intention of a comment does not mean it is a fanboy comment.

So in other words,I'll comment wherever I please whenever I please.

DeadIIIRed6300d ago

Your comment reminded me of that movie Kung Pow for some reason. "I'm a big boy too you know, I go pee pee standing up."

Sitdown6300d ago

Hahaha...but master, I want to be the chosen one.

TOO PAWNED6300d ago

I don't live in China, so who cares!

XLiveGamer6300d ago

Can this format (CH-DVD) be used on an Xbox 360???

Please no misleading allowed. This its interesting.

PirateThom6300d ago

In a word, no, it uses the same violet lasers that Blu-ray and HD DVD use.

I fail to see how this is AI shhhhlllloooop. Looking at the different games they showed, this has made many of them look far better.

isarai_lee67d ago (Edited 67d ago )

It's AI slop because it ignores the artists intent and changes the details ESPECIALLY when it comes to character faces. The scariest part of it is introducing it as the next stage of DLSS, a feature where the current iteration already has controversy surrounding it and for quite a lot of games cannot be fully disabled. So reasonably the precident is already set for what path this could take, and it's not good

blacktiger67d ago

In case you didn't watch the video then let me point just one part. It overrides the lighting. Then the question of what is the point of ray tracing cost and so on. Many of the lighting deletes shadow, including shadow on the face like eyes even chin.

Chard67d ago

Why stop at art when it comes to human input - why not just have AI play the game for us, remove human input altogether

theshizer67d ago

If you don’t like it, just don’t enable it. Personally I think it looks great from the videos I have seen.

isarai_lee67d ago

And what about when you can't? Cause there's plenty of games where you cannot fully disable dlss already, i mean we're well into an era where it's a major crutch for developers to cover up their cut corners, why would this be any different?

blacktiger67d ago

You are playing with people's money and allow Nvidia to scam you.

In case you didn't watch the video then let me point just one part. It overrides the lighting. Then the question of what is the point of ray tracing cost. This is all lie to raise the cost of the graphic card.

Andrew33667d ago

Making characters look more realistic not ok because we want the developer to decide on how the game was intended to look. - Internet

Change entire game through mods thus changing how the developers intended the game to be is ok. - Internet

isarai_lee67d ago

Something consumers can do to a product after they have purchased it, entirely optional and can always be undone with a fresh install

VS

The leading gaming hardware manufacturer making this the next iteration of the main AA/Upscaling technique that is heavily relied upod by modern devs and is not optional in most games.

Not at all the same but nice try

jwillj2k467d ago

At the moment you need 2 5090’s just to get an image on the screen so this is all vaporware until proven otherwise.

Andrew33667d ago

The good news is you can just not use it as well.

Christopher67d ago

It's all about choice in the end. But, I would say that calling it 'more realistic' is quite a stretch. It looks like AI art, and that's rarely realistic.

Urrakia3467d ago

All the comments I see are reminding me of how we got to the current state of gaming when microtransactions were first introduced: "It's completely optional guys, we promise! If you don't like it just don't buy it!"

I think we all know how that ended up.

Popsicle67d ago (Edited 67d ago )

I had the same exact thought the first time this was brought up in a separate article about a week ago. Took me straight back to the conversations surrounding “horse armor.” Just don’t buy it they said. Years later, many IPs I previously enjoyed are so infected with monetization schemes that I don’t even consider purchasing them anymore.

DLSS 5 and the like are the same thing wrapped in a different package. History rhymes but many of us never learn from it.

blacktiger67d ago

Biggest Scam. Overrides lighting and shadow. So why keep Ray tracing? It's all a scam to raise graphic card. We now see Nvidia with Microsoft downturn anything against them. Sony is next!
