I fully agree with you Rehabinum! I never pre-order unless the shop gives a quality goodies with the pre-order! Its indeed a myth created by retailers.

im sorry, im not talking about this article specifically. It just seems that every website is more critical towards the PS3.

I am yet to ever hear of a game being sold out (bar ones with hardware like Wii Fit). You can find a game in any game store on launch day and walk in and buy it.

And the shelves must be full , because, most of the people aren't buying their anything. The shop is very small and the prices are high.. 500M further and you can go to Mediamarkt ( who is quite big in Europe ) and the shops are really big and you can buy Killzone 2 there for 10 euro's cheaper..

I never pre-order any games even if it includes some goodies / free DLC.

BMS84: Futurezone has multiple shops and most of them are of a good size. This is a well know retailer in the Netherlands. Before sprouting statements, please make sure you know what you are talking about.

you can be paranoid or busy on the day of release so you'll pre order but the publishers are aware of the issue of not having a enough stock, no stock no money! So they make sure now that the product is there!

I pre-ordered my copy because where I shop they always send them out early so being in the UK, I would have got it Thursday.
Instead it got messed up in the mail and I will have to report it missing on Monday and wait till Tuesday for it.
Unfortunately I can't get one from the shops and take the other back because its the limited edition.

if they have a lot of preorders then theres a good chance they'll order more at launch :)

actually before the ps hate builds everyone needs to get there facts right, nintendo had constantly dominated over sega for ages even before the ps1 came out, but sega did not die until the ps2 was released and that was due to money issues as people were buying ps products more now, not sony's fault at all imo.
its mainly the xbox fans who hate us the most coz xbox could never compete with the ps2.
now they are on top with xbox360 they are always bashing the ps3 saying it's doomed etc, it's pathetic

I work at GameCrazy and Killzone 2 sold out before the release date. Only people who got copies were people who reserved and the first two people who lined up outside the store(and wanted the game).

... occasionally a game actually does sell out. This happened when WoW first launched, and it sold way more than anyone anticipated. Stores were sold out for nearly 2 months.

Similarly, collector's editions of games can sell out if they're popular enough. For example, collector's editions of WoW and its expansions as well as for the PS3 version of Street Fighter 4.

I rarely pre-order a game, but sometimes I will if I want it bad enough and just want that extra security in knowing that I will have my guaranteed copy (though I pre-order from amazon, screw Gamestop, IMO). Generally speaking, it is useless since the game is usually still readily available even when I do pre-order, but it's more of an insurance thing than anything else. And besides, sometimes you get cool freebies for pre-ordering, such as Killzone 2, which had some decent pre-order deals depending on where you pre-ordered it.

I usually never pre-order but I did with Killzone 2 because it came with a free T-shirt. Should arrive on Tuesday.

Since i work in a video game shop, the only games i saw in stockout, without counting the Wii, were GTA IV and Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 (and almost World Of Warcraft Lich King). The first because it benefited of an incredible hype, and PES 2009 because Konami never gives much stock.

But for any other games, pre-ordering is, for the consumer, technically useless. But for retailers, it's not. 80% of the pre-ordered games are sold in the three days of their release, which means that in average, when you have 100 pre-ordered games, 80 will be sold, without counting the sales that has not been made with a pre-order.

For the retailers, pre-orders are a way to ensure people will buy a game and also a way to advertise the game. There are even pre-order statistics for the big releases and shops have to fulfill a certain pre-order quota.

So yes, pre-ordering may be useless for the consumer, because generally retailers always get enough stock, but no they are not useless for retailers and the industry in general (and sometimes, pre-ordering a game gives you an extra bonus, this is how i got a Killzone 2 USB key XD )

Sega's decline started from that sega cd add on for the megadrive.

Sega brought out the Sega Saturn whilst playstation was barely on the drawing board let alone in the consumers hands.

Saturn failed and Sega then launched the Dreamcast which was destined to failure as Sega simply did'nt push it enough and the system was hacked to living buggery with piracy issues.

Sega have no one else to blame but themselves for there demise in the console market.

I have never run into a situation where they ran out of copies of a game. I don't let Gamestop scare you by say "you should preorder it cuz come release day we might not have any copies left for you", hell I didn't preorder KZ2, and yesterday when I went to buy it and SO4 they had an entire pile.

All you sony fans can say what you want about pre-orders being useless. If I tried that crap with games like halo 3, ace combate flight stick bundle, and gears of war 2 and I wouldn't have gotten my games on launch date. Pre-orders apparently make sense when the console SELLS games!

Pre-ordering has always been useless. Except when regarding limited editions.

Because of the huge amount that had pre-ordered, there was no need for many to go to their local game store and buy on from the shelves.

But having 1.1 million pre orders from Europe is absolutely outstanding!

I got Gears of War 2 day one from Best Buy, I got Halo 3 day one from Gamestop, I didn't pre order either one and both stores had plenty of copies.

Stores take pre orders to determine how the game will sell, if they get plenty of pre orders the stores usually order more copies, stores don't want to be without product if it is proven to be a popular game. I have easily found any game I want on day one of release, no matter how big the game is. The only time I pre order is when they offer something extra for doing so, and its something I want.

Killzone 2 is a great game, easily as good as Gears Of War 2 and Halo 3.

i rather preorder and be guaranteed a copy on day 1 than going in and hoping they still have a copy. one time i walked in my gamecrazy for a game(might've been devil may cry 4) on release day and they asked if i preordered it, so i said no and they said that i couldn't buy it until 2 days later when the preorder copies go on sale if people didnt pick theirs up. ever since, i've preorder every games that i've bought. its not like its extra $5 on top of $60 to preorder the game. everytime i buy a game there, i preorder another game so its not a waste of time for me

and also yesterday when i picked up killzone 2, they asked if i preordered it(you could tell by his face that if you didnt preorder then you wont be able to get the game) but i preordered it anyway

It really depends where you live. SFIV wasn't even in my town after preordering it. KZ2 is gone.

I agree. I thought for sure Killzone 2 was going to be sold out at Target. My mom went there and got it for me and she told me that there was around 6-7 copies left.

Pre-ordering is convenient for me. There have been a couple of games I wasn't able to get without going to a few stores, so if I know I'm going to want the game, it guarantees me a copy. It costs me no more, and when I stop in to pick up one game, I pre-order the next, so there's no extra trips involved.

Games like "Halo 3", "Gears Of War 2", "Grand Theft Auto 4", and "Killzone 2" will have such a large stock that they'll be no need to pre-order it. This should come to no surprise, really.

i wasnt worried about not being able to get the game on launch day if i didnt preorder, cause most of the time the failure that is gamestop doesn't get the shipment in till after the street date. I mainly preordered to show some support for the game/sony and to get the demo code.

Back in the day preordering was necessary (around where I lived big games would sell out Day 1 and be out of stock for days or weeks, like KOTOR or Ocarina of Time). But now-a-days? No, definitely not. I still preorder, but not as much as I used to since it seems that all the big games get way more copies than their gonna need.

I pre-ordered Halo 2 and showed up at a midnight launch. My pre-order meant nothing. I had to get a ticket, and wait in the same line as those that didn't pre-order. That is biting the hand that feeds you, isn't it?

I pre-order every game the reason being i get game points and the game comes a day early.

At my store we have over 30 copy's of Killzone2 in stock .We sold 3 copy's so far and that's because most don't know what it is .SF4 is outselling it 7 to 1 .They all play Call of Duty and won't give that up for nothing.Having NO Co-Op Really Hurt's Killzone.They should have put that in the Game.(Bubble's if im Right)

I only preorder if there are good bonuses.

At my local retailer where i preorder you can give any amount of money as a down payment. (min 5$) and they subtract that money from the total price. So for me its good i pay as much as i want before and the rest after. i paid 60$ 30 before 30 there it was fine for me.

I'm sure with KZ2 they decided to send more than the actual pre-order stats just to make sure everyone who wanted it got it. The game has a tremendous potential to sell out, but they didn't want anyone not getting a copy so they adjusted for it. I've never had to pre-order a game. I just walk into the store on launch day and buy it.

Pre-ordering is pointless. The games are always there regardless. They make so many copies of each game that none of them sell out anyway.

i orderd my copy of killzone 2 through amazon and got it delivered on the release day, also £17 cheaper than my local game or gamestation!!! needles to say i was more than happy!!

I ordered Killzone on Amazon and it shipped out a day late. I didn't want to wait so I walked on in to Wal-Mart and picked up a copy. I figured it would be sold out but there were a good 6 or 7 copies remaining. On the flip side, I did order GTA4 on Amazon. It shipped out a couple of days early and I actually got it in the mail a day before release...problem was that I didn't get to the post office in time to pick it up (lol). There are some advantages to pre-ordering. I have noticed Amazon sells some games a few dollars cheaper. Usually when the release date is announced. The closer to release the price goes back up. Plus, some stores offer bonuses if you preorder through them. So there are some advantages to pre-order.

Why does it have to be "Preordering Killzone 2 is useless"? Why cant it be Preordering games is useless? Anyway I Preordered Killzone 2 for only £30 and it got delivered a day early which was a pleasant suprise. So i think it can be useful sometimes.

preordering is for chumps. I don't go to stores like gamestop or gamecrazy anymore because of all this push for preordering. What's more, these stores only stock games based on the number of preorders a game gets. Your best bet is to order online or to go to best buy or something.

Sony really does need another mainline shooter franchise. They pretty much gave up after the PS3 generation, and I'm really surprised they haven't tried at another high-profile, singleplayer-centric shooter; even if it weren't Killzone or Resistance.

I miss Killzone while I can see why they still do Horizon has some really good things but I do think that Horizon is overrated imo.

Or how about studios focus on projects that they feel passionate about, and not be forced to make something they have little interest in. It shows in the final product.

It’s still got potential for the modern era. The DNA is all there. The install base is there. The interest is there. The time is now.

I’m beating a dead horse here… but Resisitance FOM gun lay out was so fun, multiplayer was one of my top favorite experiences. Insomniac nailed it and I would love a remaster and maybe a redo with Reisistance 2. They listens to players who were wanting a Halo killer and it kind of lost its character from the first.

Warhawk, if they had just remade the first one not Starhawk which offered nice things like the build and battle.. but Warhawk was the best arcade shooter I ever played. Back when you didn’t have battle passes and you actually had to get certain amount of kills or ribbons to unlock different paint skins on the Warhawks and armor for your player.. Look at the success of Helldivers 2, it’s a fun game and it reminds me of Warhawk in a way. I’ve been wanting a remake or sequel since the beginning of the ps4 gen.. it’s hurts to have hope nowadays. Even with the demise of the studios Sony has a steady fan base.

Sorry bud, but the PS3 generation was amazing and featured the greatest console comeback in history.

That said, I'd love it if Warhawk returned or Metal Gear Solid 4. It needs to not be shackled to the PS3 generation anymore. A Killzone 2 remake would be insane with modern graphics and that art direction.

I really miss this gen of gaming. It felt like the last truly "great" era for videogames before the modern approach really took hold.

The PS3 was such a glorious console. The UI, the games, the free online...just incredible.

I would pay good money for a Warhawk remake. Socom too. The last Socom game just didn’t do it justice. Folklore could use a remaster or remake as well.
Several other titles I would like to remade with the amount of visual fidelity the current gen has over the past consoles it could help articulate the games that we’ve loved growing up. I would love even some ps2 titles to remade.. Dark Cloud from ps2, Legacy of Kain series but don’t know what will come of it sense it was bought by Embracer group and all there layoffs.

This strategy is exactly what helped ruin Xbox. Sony more than Microsoft know when to let a franchise go and that is important to keep things fresh. The old games are there if you want to play them.

FF13 is top of this list for me. No matter your opinion on it, it being the only numbered offline FF out of all 16 not to be on new consoles is odd. GTA IV would be great too

The only reason my PS3 is still connected is because of the Resistance, Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm games that I still love to play. I am for remaking or remastering them.

I was never a huge fan of Killzone, but thoroughly enjoy Horizon. Guerrilla are superb developer and easily up there with the best of the best.

Need a killzone 2 remake from the ground up.

Great studio, loved the Killzone series, I wish they would do a remake of the first three games. Horizon is a real step up and truly put Guerrilla Games on the map.

Too bad I never got a chance to play Shellshock: Nam’67 would have loved to try that game out back in the days to see what were their beginnings.

It would fantastic to see what they could do in Killzone after the lessons learned through Horizon.

Or heck, give us even a short linear FPS from the people who designed Cauldron THETA in the Burning Shores expansion. Even just flying into it (after gliding around and finding its opening amongst the lava and Sunwings perched around it, with other bigger machines just along the path toward it) was an incredible experience.

Forbidden West is awesome, It’s pretty damn big compared to Zero Dawn and it takes a little while to get your skills up and get the equipment you need to fully explore the game (not going to spoil it) but once you do those things and start fighting the big ass machines it really is amazing. Some cool side quests to where you hold the fate of peoples lives by your choice and the cauldrons look amazing. Lots of skills , combos, special moves and add ons for your weapons so you can approach fights many ways. Looking forward to the name game but I wonder how/if Silas will be a part of it or not ? Sad he’s gone.
