NO. It's, a freaking, PHONE. NOT A GAMING PLATFORM. Sure, you can buy games, but it's not made FOR GAMES. Stupid article.

1. iphone is way over priced, especially if you buy it without a contract

2. the iphones games will always be limited because of the lack of real buttons, touch screen can only go so far in terms of gaming

3. iphone is late, the DS and PSP already have a huge libary of games, the ipone cant compete with that back catelog

4. DS and PSP can be had for less then £100, the iphone doesnt even come close

How can it affect the psp? iPhone although can help on a 10-20 minute train ride to work does not compare to an 1 hour train ride or a flight with my psp.

I love my iphone , but it's crap for gaming . People complaining about the wii/ds being too casual got no idea how awful it is on Iphone or mobile phones , but hey those dont pretend yet to be viable gaming platforms.

Sure the pro-iphone games will praises the merits of 8-10 real games like supermonkey ball or obviously in the future metal gear . but more than half of those games are crap that looks good but unplayable , and cheap vaporware .

Sure there is a big and growing market for it , but it's a farcry from taking over right now .

Ipods notorius for crappy batterys and Iphones continually giving few people I know who have them problems from batterys to just simply not working properly.

Although the iphone is what $199.00 with a plan. It is the plan that will kill you. I rarely talk or text on my phone (its not a Iphone). I only carry it for safety and convenience. I just see no reason FOR ME to drop $69.00 a month plus other fees and then another $19.99 for a data plan just to have a cell phone. If you can afford to do so GREAT, but I can find about 100 better things to spend that kind of cash on easily. With a plan like that it would be cheaper for me to drive and talk to them in person. With that said the Ipod Touch would have been a better example to use. I don't know too many youngsters running around with a Iphone, but I do know a couple with a 8gb Ipod Touch.

I don't think a Iphone will dent PSP sales by any means. they are just to different and are geared towards two completely different markets. This article is just another attempt to slam Sony. How many kids are going to say "hey mom and dad I want a Iphone so I can play cool games"? How many adults are going to buy a Iphone just so they can play games?

Do the people who approve these articles really think that low of us? Do they really believe that we will eat this crap up?

I doubt anyone, who specifically wants a mobile gaming device will buy an Iphone over a DS or PSP. However if we are speaking in terms of game sales then that is a different story. But even so, the Iphone control scheme is all but convincing...

- on-screen buttons are still un-precise compared to real ones.
- on-screen buttons are stealing real-estate from the screen itself.
- low responsiveness, try speed button mashing on the iphone...
- the battery on the Iphone is already scarce, when you go into gaming+network coverage we are talking a couple or so hours of battery time.
- in intense usage, it heats up a lot.
- The games on the Iphone are hardly getting better... it´ll be a slow process. Thus limited library.
- the other platforms are specific, unless you are looking for a "multi-do device" (jack of all trades, master of none)

I could go on but I in short... NO, it can´t. IMO

Might as well add my two cents to the trash pile:

The DS was designed as a cheap portable game system with a touch screen, long battery life, and can handle kids banging them around. There is also a huge library of titles available and some of the most unique and genius games available on any system. Total cost after a few games, system, and a few accessories: $300.

The PSP was designed as the teenagers portable game system or AHEM.. Game Gear of this generation. Has a wide screen and has more mature titles. Total cost after a few games, a system, and a few accessories: $350.

The iPhone was designed as a smartphone and has a decent graphics capability which was awkwardly touted as a great portable game contender by game engine enthusiast John Carmack. The games are cheap, the controls are mostly touch based. As far as phone games go, this is the perfect phone for those who play them. Total cost after a few games, the system, and a few accessories: $400 + minimum subscription fees by whichever phone carrier. You can also pick one up by itself for another $400.

All three have a unique way of grabbing the gamers.

The iphone seems to cater to those who play games on the subway, who do not use their phone for business (I cannot see any serious businessman using an iphone) and who is from the age 20 to 40, and gets a decent paycheck.

The PSP is more of a teenager thing. Some games are great but they lack creativity and feel a under produced. The games are really like candy for hardcore gamers as versions of high rated ps2 games are constantly being designed for it. Average age group of 12 to 30 and pretty much any income group.

The DS on the other hand is more of an all ages system.. I have seen gamers of every age playing one of these, as there are games which work for kids, teenagers, hardcore gamers, technical junkies, casual gamers, and even those who are retired and curious about games. Usually the DS system is marketed to the younger crowd, but thats really the truth about all games. The kids always come first and that is the main market. After playing games for 30 years, I have both of these systems but the DS games seem to be far more creative and interesting, and more retro.

The iphone has potential but unless they release a version that is not a phone - just a game system, is cheaper and advertise to kids, they do not have a chance. And I really couldn't stand playing games without face buttons and tactile feedback. The touch only games of the DS are awkward and lose appeal quickly, but those that use both seem to work very well. After Carmack started loving the iphone I decided to check out how many people still used their phones for games and also asked those about portable game systems. Those who had phones played games maybe once a month. They also played portable games mostly at home when where they could relax, or when they were on a long trip.

I think we should lay to rest this argument. John Carmack is a game engine enthusiast and sees that potential but the iphone is clearly not going to make it into stockings and into younger kids hands, or heck, not even mine. I refuse to spend that kind of money for a when great collection of games lies with my DS and PSP and my PC beats the crap out of all of them.

My last question: Who the hell would buy their kid an iphone and gladly pay for all of the fees? (this is assuming your kid is younger than 30 and your not a CEO)
