IBM patents bullet dodging bionic armor

Your science fiction fantasy may be coming a reality, if IBM has anything to say about it. The company was recently granted a patent for bionic body armor, originally filed last March, that's intended to bestow the wearer the power to dodge bullets.

That armor is yelling out "Instant Death!:

donator6294d ago

So, what if you're standing at the edge of a cliff and someone shoots something at you. The body armor determines its a risk and stimulates your muscles and flings you off the cliff? =D

I'm not sure I would want to wear something like this back to war. "Distort" my body to avoid a bullet, I'm deploying next month back to Iraq but this is kinda more than necessary.

Why not develop "armor" that repels bullets away from me instead of my body avoiding an incoming round.

"Why not develop "armor" that repels bullets away from me instead of my body avoiding an incoming round."

it would seem more logical but the amount of force and momentum a bullet has when travelling at say 2000+ feet per second is immense, depending on caliber, it can be enough to put a hole in an iron plate, or concrete. meaning the size of the electro magnetic field and field strength would have to be immense aswell. its just not feasable.

according to the laws of physics you would need a masive energy source to produce such a field and on top of that it would manipulate any metallic objects in its vecinity, ie your own weapon could potentially shoot away from your body. :O

Lol, or if you were getting stuck into some nice Spaghetti Bolognese and a sniper fired at you =P. Pretty cool though

thereapersson6293d ago

The flying spaghetti monster would not allow that!

Mcrmarcher6293d ago

Flying spaghetti monster for teh win!!! XD

Awookie6293d ago

Jesus if you move that fast and instantly wont your bones break, muscles tear and pass out?

catastrophee6293d ago

a machine gun firing at you.....

gamesmaster6293d ago

well, the patent said its for long range fire so i guess they could minimise movement and speed by reacting earlier to the shot. but it has its flaws, like you say, a machine gun would still rape you.

Timesplitter146293d ago

Something tells me people will get their spines broken with that thing.

And what if bullets are flying everywhere around you? Will it make you implode or something?
