Can Killzone 2 really change developers' attitude to the PS3?

Whoelse of PS3 Attitude writes: "With the gaming world talking about Killzone 2 and the pre-orders already at a high level, one has to ask how much Killzone 2 can change the way developers see the PS3.

With the game getting so much attention, in some part because of its awesome graphics, you could imagine developers must be feeling the pressure to compete - what you might call 'the Killzone 2 effect'…"

It would be nice to have games try and out do Killzone but money talks.

GrieverSoul6297d ago (Edited 6297d ago )

Developers should try to out do the Killzone 2 effect but since they are multiplatform they will settle for an equal version across the 2 powerhouse consoles, the X360 and the PS3.

We saw that last gen with the PS2 and the Xbox. The Xbox had superior hardware but its versions were gimped to satisfy both consoles versions. I remember some games to enjoy better versions for the Xbox as Splinter Cell and Cold Fear, but they were Ubisoft titles and they were in favor for Microsoft´s console.

What I hope is for some developers like Criterion that take advantage of the PS3´s capabilities to enhance their games in the PS3.

CrazzyMan6297d ago (Edited 6297d ago )

i doubt, that 3rd party developers will try to reach maximum of PS3 power, since they will probably continue do multiplatform games, which are holded with x360.
Maybe with a good budget exclusive game, but that mostly for japanese developers, which already showing GREAt results with Valkyria Chronicles, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm and Yakuza 3. :)

Anywyay, we still have 1st and 2nd party devs, which definitely will be showing some amazing stuff, and not just in 1 game, in MANY games. :)

MasFlowKiller6297d ago

I wouldn't hold my breath, at least Sony has the strongest first and second party support in the industry which has to count for something in a world of multiplat games

GameGambits6296d ago

I might get bashed for this, but I have always felt multi-platform games are just an excuse to not put a game to its full potential.

Just from a recent example, think about Fallout 3. If Fallout 3 could've been a PS3 exlusive we would've seen a much bigger level of graphical power, use of physics, etc.

The reason of course developers try to make a game multiplatform is A)For more people to enjoy their work B) Profits. I just remember back in the day when PS1 and N64 existed. Just about everyone had both, and each console revolved basically on WAY more exlusives than multiplatform titles. Flame wars didn't exist and we were just left with enjoyable titles on each to be proud to be a GAMER in general not a gamer who won't play games on the OTHER console.

I personally wish we could get back into that way of game development. Stop worrying about profits and EVERYONE playing your game and just develop the game to its MAX potential. The standard for "the next big thing" would keep the bar being raised at a much higher level.

I mean if it could make Gabe Fatty McFat shut up then KillzOWN 2 could probably shift a flawed paradigm, why not?

hay6297d ago

But now we see a lot of bashing and ignorance by non-believers and fanboys. People are stubborn.

MURKERR6297d ago (Edited 6297d ago )

last time i looked i swear you were on 9 or 10 bubbles...

here..have a bubble gurl

dylz6297d ago

I'm so tired of KZ2 stories it is killin me

THC CELL6297d ago

awww the media cant get enough really
Killzone is one of the best looking console games todate
they have really ate there fist for dissin the ps3 power on this one

I cant get enough

The next best looking console game is coming to ps3 as well
Uncharted 2

LinuxGuru6297d ago

Sure, why not? I see Killzone 2's impending success as inspiration for any PS3 developer, regardless of budget size.

Software_Lover6297d ago

I sense the sarcasm in your response, LOL. Or it could just be me.

I will say this. No and here's my opinion why

Killzone 2 took how long and how much to make? And they are still talking about coming out with a patch within the first month, meaning they still aren't finished with the game.

3rd party devs cant afford that luxury. I give more props to Insomniac and naughty Dog for what they have been able to accomplish than I do to Guerilla. Insomniac has been able to put out great games and so has naughty dog in a shorter amount of time and with what they had. Resistance, Ratchet and Clank, downloadable Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Uncharted 2 this year. Great games in the amount of time (shorter) than it has taken for this Killzone 2 to come out.

sidenote:Developers attitudes dont need changing when it comes to the ps3. Everyone always brings up that Gabe newell guy. Is he the only dev? Last time I checked 3rd parties make games for both the 360 and the ps3 for the most part. Some 3rd party exclusives for both.

Jager6297d ago

Halo 3 had 3 year dev time and cost 50 mil, yet look how that turned out compared to Killzone 2.

Software_Lover6297d ago

And what does Halo 3 have to do with this? And just to bring it back Halo 3 had great features, but didn't change the minds of 3rd party devs. It was just another shooter by a 1st party. This is about Killzone 2 and dev mind changing.

Sheddi6297d ago

and $30 million in advertisement.
Some of those could have gone in to developing another game or making the game perfect?

LinuxGuru6297d ago

There was no sarcasm in my post, I meant every word.

Killzone have shown a lot of developers up really.

i hope all the ps3 and sony developers take note

MP developers will think highly of a exclusive for ps3 in the future
then again i think they are afraid of showing the xbox

imagine a GTA with killzone engine lol

ultimoIu6297d ago

I hope that all the developers emulate Killzone because it's so damn awesome.

wibble6297d ago

"imagine a GTA with killzone engine lol"

It'd be grey city and all the pedestrians would have red glowing eyes.

ultimolu6297d ago

Guys...that's not me. I hope you know that. Our friend here likes to impersonate others. Don't take them seriously.

M-Easy6297d ago

What the hell? Theres 2 of you? Which one do i shoot?

PLiPhaze6297d ago (Edited 6297d ago )

L-O-L

I think the 5 bubble one's the impostor

Jager6297d ago

Ya, one with 5 bubbles was just created. prob has cap i's replacing the L's

rockleex6297d ago

Ultimolu's(both of them) profile and you can easily tell which one's the real one.

JD_Shadow6297d ago

Yeah, the second L in the impostor's name is a capped I (I just checked it).

That and I am one of the people tacking the real ulti, and none of the imposter's comments appear in the tracking list.

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

Hugely disappointingly, it seems that Guerrilla Games, developers of the Killzone and Horizon series, may be done with Killzone for good.

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX566d ago (Edited 566d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne566d ago (Edited 566d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro566d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken565d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown566d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72566d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken565d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya565d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast566d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood566d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro795d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv72795d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_795d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga795d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos794d ago (Edited 794d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt23794d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball2000795d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin795d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole795d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix795d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel1989795d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor795d ago (Edited 795d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

795d ago
Michiel1989795d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor1099d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar1099d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg1099d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz1491098d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance11381099d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim1099d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC1099d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance11381099d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle1099d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix761099d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

REDGUM1098d ago

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware7301099d ago (Edited 1099d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger1098d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca1099d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy1099d ago (Edited 1099d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

lukasmain1099d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright1099d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.
