It's like I said last year, it's all a matter of where each company was putting their money. MS was throwing money at 3rd party devs to do exclusive content on their console, and Sony was pumping money into 1st/2nd party studios. MS's strategy was a good one, as it put them ahead of the pack with tons of games and exclusive DLC while Sony fell behind, but Sony's strategy was built for the long haul.

The way Sony spent their money, yeah, games took awhile to come out, but look what you get. I'm not talking about games in particular, but I'm talking about the engines underneath the hoods of the games. All that money wasn't just for games, but for the tech that makes them run. With the hard part out of the way, 1st/2nd party devs can really show what they can do.

Meanwhile, MS has lots of great 3rd party games on their console, but at the cost of some damn good teams (Ensemble comes to mind). This year, it's starting to bite them on the ass.

Again, I'm not saying all is lost. MS can always announce new games at GDC and E3. Then again, so can Sony.....

Halo Wars is a tripleA title for an XBOX owner, then there is Star Ocean 4 for the rpg lovers. The problem with the haters is that they say "Halo Wars doesn't count because it is a RTS and the RTS sucks; Halo: ODST is an expansion so it isn't a game...where are the other exclusives?"

1) IMO Halo Wars will be a bright success. I can't imagine if it outsells Killzone2...

2) Despite Bungie's statements, Halo: ODST is still a top secret project. No one knows the real quality of its graphics or its longevity. It still could be a big surprise.

3) Only an idiot or a fanboy would think that MS has nothing to announce for the 360.

How long have we been hearing about Halo Wars (sept. 27th 2006) and Halo ODST (oct. 9th 2008 due maybe by end of '09)? Oh yeah, and that other game they mentioned at E3, FF13, how close is that to being released? It's probably already out since M$ doesn't announce things unless they are ready to ship within a few months.

There is no denying PS3's killer lineup this year unless your riding a short bus to fanboy land. However MS always holds their cards close to the vest until the last possible second so I'm fairly certain a few more games are going to surprise us at E3.

All I heard is NXE and Netflix, neither of which I'm interested in. Give me my blades back.

Microsoft has games coming out whether they be crap or not. Sony does too. lets wait and see who's 09 titles prove to be the strongest, not only by sales but by quality... meaning, which ones will be more memorable/lasting appeal.. not in terms of hype... news/ media coverage etc, but in terms of lasting effect of how the game pulled you in as a player/audience. In my opinion it is way too early to tell who will dominate 09. I am looking forward to all the exclusives that the ps3 mentioned in their 09 lineup and very curious as to what MS has to offer as well.

Aaron wasn't stumbling on the upcoming lineup, they were simply playing to the strategy of not showing everything at once like they always knew.

Its no secret that The Xbox strategy involves the element of surprise, and as Aaron put it, a sort of "poker" way of showing off their lineup.

In general, exclusives merely represent bragging rights for the kind of rampant one-machine lovers that inhabit these pages.

For the public at large, games available for the system will include all the big franchises that are multi platform, and the 360 has plenty. If you do just own a 360, you're not gonna be short of some great new games, and due to shoddy conversions, the 360 often gets the better version for multi's.

Now I own both systems and I DO care about exclusives. To me the PS3 does have a more exciting line up, but for the vast bulk of the people who are going to buy a new machine this year, the difference won't be appreciable and won't be enough to sway the buying decision.

There is only a few IP's that have a very big effect on the market place. God of War should be one, but then again, the 360 has a couple of Halo branded games - and though I'm not excited for them, never underestimate the power of a successful brand name!

Whilst its true I expect to have more on my PS3 than 360 this year, I don't think the line up is enough to tip the sales balance. We'll see! :)

It was a great interview and he advised right from the start that MS doesn't say anything about what is coming out until that year - unlike Sony that likes to Blow its load way to early for games that come out years later.

As far as i know - within the first 6 months of 09 the PS3 has 1 exclusive game coming out where MS has 3...so within the first 6 months atleast MS is already beating SONY 3 games to 1.

What a stupid article and a stupid headline. Nice try, trying to make news out of non news. Microsoft ALWAYS says the same thing, they used to announce stuff and make gamers angry after waiting on delays, so they don't do it anymore.

...I wouldn't say I'm worried about the lack of an 'announced' lineup but I certainly don't like all the mention of 3rd Party Multi-Platform releases. I mean, if you can rest on the laurels of your company and have to rely on the outside influences...well, something isn't right.

I think this is where Sony excels. They can comfortably talk up their First Party projects and treat everything secondary, as it should be. I mean, take away anything not 1st Party or 2nd Party in-house and THAT is what builds a system, nothing else. When you do that, Nintendo has the most recognizable franchises and characters, Sony has some of the best new IPs turned franchises (Jak, God of War, Ratchet, etc.), and Microsoft has the money to make us all believe we need theirs...proven through sell-through of titles like Halo, Fable and Gears.

As it stands, what HAS been announced for 360...well, I think I have more must-have's on my list of Wii games to purchase this year. That in and of itself is frightening!

I don't particularly like the attitude of MS over console gaming nor do I like their business practices but I am recently a new 360 owner and I enjoy it quite a bit and hope to enjoy it in the future which I'm sure I will, in fact I can't wait for E3 to see what they will announce in terms of exclusive games, hopefully some 3rd person action game, big fan of those (can't wait for Ninja Blade, looking cool imo).

Now I appreciate that when he mentions multi-plat games are coming out for the system he is accurate and has a fair point but the question was in relation to Sony's announced lineup which is their exclusive lineup. What he should have mentioned were the Halo games and Ninja Blade which are all games coming in the near future, then go on to say that we'll have some of those to announce later in the year. But instead of that he mentions SF4 and RE5, just makes him come across like he's in damage control mode or something.

I don't mind that they like to announce things closer to release, nothing wrong with that at all but don't flaunt multi-plat games like they're only coming to your system that's just silly. However I'll admit it's decent PR spin for those consumers that don't know any better.

People seem to think that Multi-plat titles don't matter, but big games like COD: Modern Warfare 2, Tiger Woods 2010, Madden 2010, Resident Evil 5, etc. are almost POSTIVE to sell more copies on the 360. A lot of multiplat games still look and run better on 360, and some (like GTA 4, Fallout 3 and Tomb Raider: Underworld) have exclusive dlc for the 360 version. Look at games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero- they have less instrument compatibility issues on 360 and sell more copies on 360. The REAL problem gamers should be looking at is Nintendo's success. Gaming is a business, its all about making the almighty $, and Nintendo is swimming in money through profiting on outdated hardware, shovelware-type software, and controller or hardware add-ons. If Sony and Microsoft follow suit, there won't be and Gears or Killzones, it will be all PS3FIT and MSMINISPORTS in the future...

In the first half of 2009, xbox 360 clearly has more exclusive than PS3 in NA and PAL. Halo Wars, Race Pro, GTA4 DLC#1, Ninja Blade, Star Ocean 4. Sony has what? Killzone 2 and Flower.

Same result from last year, Sony has one blockbuster in first half of the year (KZ2 / MGS4). Hype about their exclusive like LBP, R2, Motorstorm 2, Socom, Vaykyria Chronicles. Guess what, GeOW2 outsold all those games combined. And when Microsoft finally announced their full fall exclusive lineup at GDC and E3, I will sit back and enjoy a 800 post thread with Sony fanboys going into SDF mode. Can't wait.

Better pump out them games. The older I get, the less time I have to play them games. Halo wars is fun, but I prefer RTS games on the PC. With KZ2, GoW3, CoD4:2, BF3, D2, SC2, and a whole bunch on other platforms coming, sure don't want my 360 to go the way of my Wii. Dust-collector.

Took awhile to get a grips with Cell Dev and share the data across devs of Cell RSX but were here at least with the real first gen game engines and can you believe the quality!!!

I suppose everyone doesn't have the new Splinter Cell game on their radar? It's been a LONG time since Microsoft even mentioned the project which means it will come out in 2009.

I also predict some more JRPGs hitting the 360 and don't rule out the possibility of a new IP all together.

I do think Sony's line up for 2009 will still be dominant over 360's this year WORLDWIDE...not just USA. I mention worldwide, because Japan will get FF13 in December, and you can bet your money now that FF13 will have a Sony PS3 bundle pack to buy it that the Japan people will eat up.

Oh also, Sony has the games Demon's Souls and White Knight Chronicles this year for RPGs. Demon's Souls looks really crazy and something the westerners will probably buy up. :)

as a xbox360 owner I'm very HEATED at the fact that all you hear from MS is multi-platform games. I think that most time when playstation owners, (not fan boys) mention the all the good games that are coming out for the ps3,I dont think they are necessarily trying to bash the 360, rather they're just speaking the truth. If you're a 360 owner and CANNOT see that the PS3 has some really good games coming out this year in addition to the multiplatform games that MS is touting as their own, then you're delusional. Sure they might have some mind blowing games that they'll announce at E3 or whatever. But I'm tired of "might" and wondering what the h3ll is up with the 360 exclusives. But thankfully, I'm a gamer and I will happily go to game stop and buy me a ps3 to place right next to my 360 :) Yea, I think that'll be the solution to my problem and as so as more 360 owners start buying a ps3 then maybe, just maybe MS will see that the solution to their PROBLEM is to actually create 1st party exclusives.

There is plenty coming to the 360 this year. MS has not shown off all the exclusives coming but they have already a good list. February alone will see 4 360 exclusives so the argument of no exclusives this year is laughable.
