Whats not racist in Resident evil 5 - a strong handsome white man beating up and killing hordes of black people who are portrayed as monsters and brutes but cant defend themselves. This has been done like a thousand times its normal... and it takes place in africa what did u expect...

I think it really just breaks down to gamers and non-gamers. Gamers (and/or RE fans) don't see it racists in anyway. BUT, there are some that could see it as racist and do have a legitimate concern. Being of mixed race personally, I didn't see it a thing wrong with it. However, I can see and do see how someone like my father would be like WTF? Some buff white dude mowing down villagers? WTF is this? It's all subtle, it's all subjective, and we shouldn't automatically close our ears and jump on the "Defend Game X" bandwagon.

In my opinion, the people who perceive this game as being a "racist game" are the racists themselves.

off topic: I like the RE5 demo. It's not like i thought they would veer far from RS4, but it's still looking like it's going to be a good, although a very familiar, game. I don't understand why everyone thinks that every action game has to play like Gears of War or something of the like. But, whatever. People can be into whatever they want, but I don't get people wanting every game to play the same.

It really is stupid this whole debate. I the game is set in scandinavia and you only shoot blacks then they would have a case but the game is set in africa.

Racism is just something formed in our minds, its not a physical thing. So no, Resident Evil 5 is not racist, but people can make it out anyway they like.

I personally don't think that this game is racist.

If the game is set in Africa, it does make sense that the majority of people would be, well, African and of coloured skin. Now the line "It doesn't matter what colour your skin is" applies to zombies too. You have to remember that all (or at least the majority) of people are infected by a virus that causes them to attack you. It only makes sense that you'd defend yourself.

The other thing is that in RE4 Leon went to Spain (I believe) and no one seemed to complain when "we" were shooting up Spaniards.

Another thing is that everyone is very touchy about anything involving black-skinned Africans. Thus nowadays anthing involving them gets blown out of proportion.

(Sorry if my comments were offensive to anyone in anyway, I tried to word things politely, but as said it is a touchy subject overall)

why isn't there and black zombies in the other resident evil games lets say on the train in resident evil 0 or 2 or whatever i mean the timeline n the game took place in the 1990 something there weren't just white people there so yeah its the same thing if your sensable enough to think about it really you will probably get what i mean

The game itself isnt racist...it's just the person playing it that would be racist. I dont agree with the uproar from the black community about racism in RE5...it was completely uncalled for considering there's been other games that have done worse.

I noticed while playing the demo they added asian and latino zombies to the mix...

It sucks that CAPCOM had to succomb in order to win back the few people they'd lost due to the race issue...shows they actually care. But in the wide spectrum of things, it also shows the selfishness of african-americans out there that felt personally attacked because the virus spread to Africa.

He mentioned that Spaniards haven't had 200 years of being depicted as subhuman as blacks have. What that statements also kinda says is that even as that game contained a pretty ugly premise it didnt really stick with spanish people.

Its like making a racist joke towards whites there are TONS more you can whip out for speciific minority groups: black, East Asian (specficially chinese), arabs

Anyone with some glimmer of intelligence and comprehension of history would understand why there is such a disparity between racist humour for those groups and white people.

what so many of you don't seem to realize is that no one is actually calling capcom racist. You dont have to fully appreciate racist ideas to be influenced by them. And what Dan white head mentioned is what i found problematic with 4 and 5 by the looks of it: the fact that these aren't actually zombies. It's like walking around killing civilizians in gta 4; after a while you get a kind of fatigue with it. Resi's tone is different, you're kinda coerced into having to kill these non-zombies as they're manic and after you.
In the world we live in racism operates automatically.
Perfect example i always use is holllywood, which still spews out movie after movie with all-white casts which are set in areas that are majority minority. "new york i love you" and "hes just not that into you" are two upcoming examples. Baltimore and New York have more "minorities" than white people in them.

It does interest me that so many of you here are defending a title many previews are saying is so underwhelming lol

I agree with some points in both arguments. 1. It's a game set in Africa and it's stupid just to exclude people based on race. On the other side i can understand why some people might be uneasy with this game because this subject is still very sensitive whether people like it or not but i have 2 questions, one based on these posts and the other on the game. 1. A few comments talk about how black people ae offended by this game and capcom changed the race of some zombies to avoid being sued, but ummm, are black people offended? I could swear all the racism stuff came from gaming site articles. Because theres a race article every other day, should people assume that black people are offended? Did black people write the articles? 2. Question about the game now. Nothing bothered me about the game but this scene. People are arguing that its in africa hence there will be black zombies, soooo, why is a white lady being dragged by a black person? Thats the only scene that made me go huh? Not saying there arent white people in Africa, but was wondering how everyone picked up that capcom changed the races of some zombies and they should all be africans but yet the white lady being dragged away is just meh.
