Dear Capcom

VG Watchdog Writes:

"Dear Capcom,
Recently, you've ignored your customers and fanbase. You've given us a "censored" Resident Evil 5 because of stupid media response (If you are unsure of what I am referring too, serach for resident evil 5 and racist in Google, it'll probably come up), you've shown us what fun the game could be but you've also forgotten a pretty big thing. Resident Evil is supposed to be the king of Zombie Killing games and you've gotten fat and lazy with it's title. Other games, Call of Duty: World at War and Left 4 Dead in particular, are trying to infringing upon the title and while they haven't topped you, they are starting the process to taking you out."

well i have to agree somewhat with this article even though i love resident evil 4 and so far the demo of part 5, however capcom it is time to listen to fans and give us what we want, i expect to see some dlc with replayability, who's with me?

RKRigney6208d ago

The RE5 demo scared me... tank controls = not fun in 2009

xwabbit6208d ago

AT first i wasn't looking even on buying the game but after the demo i did like it, liked the co-op and was fun. Controls didn't really bothered me, liked them really.

lord_of_balrogs6209d ago

It'll have the mercenary's mini-game.

Counter_ACT6209d ago

Theyre selling a tried and tested formula, they wont change it if people will pay for it.

bigjclassic6208d ago

I am a huge Capcom mark with over 40 capcom games in my house. Please do not listen to all of the babies crying over spilled milk. The capcom fanbase (which is HUGE) will by this regardless.

Oh and RE5 rocks.

jadenkorri6208d ago (Edited 6208d ago )

whats funny for saying a capcom game is good you got disagrees, im a long time fan of Resident Evils. Resident evil 5 being racist is absurd, if the game was based in Japan or China and your killing japanese/chinese zombies with Chris Redfield, thats not racist, but the 2nd you place a game in Africa with black people, its racist, im sry but its 2009, not 1809. Taken from wiki "A 1705 Virginia law stated slavery would apply to those peoples from nations that were not Christian." That was slavery, slavery of anyone who was non christian, so that means everybody else, so why was Resident Evil 4 not racist. People have got to grow up, and I'm 100% positive the people making a big deal about this are white, cause black people have more reasoning than this load of crap.

MiloGarret6208d ago

I think it’s because you lack emphatic ability. Imagine this, I’ll lead you through it step by step, maybe then you’ll be able to understand why some people might regard this game as plain out racist, or consider it to reinforce already existing and VERY REAL racial structures present in Africa.

1. Imagine you are black, not very hard, huh?
2. Remember colonialism, they did teach you about that in school, right?
3. Remember Apartheid, and other systems like it, which are still very much present in Africa in the informal and to some extent formal sociopolitical and economical structures.
4. Remember the incredible amount of violence exerted by white people on black people during the last centuries.
5. Remember slavery. What group of people has been overwhelmingly most affected by slavery in negative terms?
6. Consider the VAST differences in income and quality of life (in material terms…) between those who are labeled white, and those who are labeled black. Pretty huge, don’t you think?
7. Look at the systematic discrimination of black people on the labour market present worldwide, if you dispute this fact, please look into the astonishing amount of research conducted in this area which validates that fact. Fact.
8. Keep in mind the that discrimination of black people at the hands of white people is not exclusive to the labour market, but that it penetrates every single layer of society, effectively eliminating the possibilities of most black people to reach positions of authority and wealth.

9. NOW, think of a white man shooting black people in Africa.

If you don’t understand now how a game, where a white man, a military or some spec ops guy is shooting black people, can be considered racist… Well, I don’t know what to say. I actually don't think it is racist, I don't think it was Capcoms intention to make a racist game, but I fully understand how some people could see it as such.

L-a-i-n6208d ago

Left 4 Dead has along way before it will every be even close to RE. Im sorry gameplay may be great but graphically it is crap. RE manages to have high graphics quality and they keep the gameplay pretty well in tact. They really don't care if a small % of people don't buy it as long as the other 6 million do.

L-a-i-n6208d ago

I love when I get disagrees without a comment just shows me I am doing something right. If you disagree at least voice your prospective on the issue.

jadenkorri6208d ago

your replying to yourself, doesn't that say enough...

FYI - i did not disagree or agree with your statements.

I mean 0, 1 and Code Veronica should be way before we get into 5 or 6.

Darkseeker19d ago

5 and 6 are so bad that even Capcom want to pretend they don't exist.

Levii_9219d ago

Dude Code Veronica is bad too but RE5 and 6 were mega successful and to me it makes much more sense for Capcom to do them instead. Nobody cares about Code Veronica except niche fixed camera era RE fans, i bet most modern RE fans probably don't know Code Veronica even exists. Based on all that i don't believe CV remake is coming but we will see i guess.

MehmetAlperTR19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Actually RE5-6 was not Classic RE game.. They are not even Survival Horror game.. They are just an action game with coop and named by RE... And for me RE Code Veronica was masterpiece.. I remembered the first time i played it in Dreamcast.. It was absouletly excellent game. And specially for RE6.. I was quit from game after the camera shakes when Leon's kick to zombies.. There's a video about RE6 and they are telling the truth about that shitty game https://www.youtube.com/wat... here it is.. Enjoy it..

Neonridr19d ago

people are DYING for a Code Veronica Remake. Not sure who you are talking to, but the die-hard RE fans of the series are very familiar with every entry. That's what it means to be called a die-hard fan.

neutralgamer199219d ago

Levii

I am sure If they were to remake CV that it 2ont have fixed camera angle. I hope whatever they do they take their time like RE2/4 remakes and not rushed with cut content like RE3 remake

Before they should do RE5 they should go back and remake earlier games. In a perfect scenario we would get CV and RE/Zero before RE5/6

Tapani18d ago

Code Veronica on Dreamcast was absolutely AWESOME.

It makes more sense for them to remake earlier games like Code Veronica. RE5 is a good game though - it's not THAT different from RE4.

RE5 just doesn't really need to remade in general. The co-op element makes it tricky - you'd probably add more moments where Chris is by himself enhance the horror but some would want co-op to stay.

thesoftware73019d ago

RE:5 Was and still is a great game, with hands down the best Merc mode, that I still play from time to time with my brother.

RE:6 blah, I agree, it was awful.

Redgrave19d ago

Other than Code Veronica, 6 is the one ai want to see remade the most only because pretty much everything has to be redone; can't streamline that hot mess.

DarXyde19d ago

6 was pretty bad. 5 just tried too hard in being an action-oriented RE4.

In some fairness to Capcom, 5 was the first Resident Evil on then-new hardware for them (X360 and PS3). And it was pretty damn hard to follow up RE4.

Imagine everyone's surprise when EA of all companies dropped Dead Space.

Alos8818d ago

The first half of 5 wouldn't be too hard to do in the more grounded style the remakes have gone for, but the second half gets pretty silly and uncomfortable at parts.
6 is a wash. You'd have to basically make a whole new game to salvage that one at this point.

__y2jb18d ago

6 is garbage. 5 is excellent.

Hopefully if and when they do a RE5 remake, they give it the RE3 remake treatment, because this is certainly one title that I don't want a faithful remake of.

Resident Evil 5 - 15 Years of Being the Most Misunderstood Resident Evil

Resident Evil 5 launched 15 years ago today - and it continues to stand as a stepping stone from the good to the bad.

TheBrainZ703d ago

One of my favourites because of the co-op. Then Resi 6 arrived and the series nosedived further.

Knightofelemia703d ago

I enjoyed the game co-oping with a friend I know the game in solo the AI can be an idiot but RE5 is way better then RE6. I played RE6 with a friend if it wasn't cheap when I got I would have avoided RE6.

thesoftware730703d ago (Edited 703d ago )

5 was excellent, still play Mercs with my brother.
I would love a fully remastered RE:5, with some added, reworked content. The DLC for 5 was also excellent.

6 was awful.

CrimsonWing69703d ago

I never understood why the game was misunderstood. It was a fantastic game at launch and is still fun today to play. It’s as action packed as Resident Evil 4 was, yet that’s regarded a masterpiece 🤷‍♂️

chobit_A5HL3Y703d ago

it was "misunderstood" because they introduced co-op into the franchise at a time when people loved to have fake rage about co-op. like, you could play the game as a solo experience, but people chose to have their bandwagon rage because it was cool at the time lol

-Foxtrot702d ago (Edited 702d ago )

What the hell are you talking about? Fake Rage? Bandwagon? Come on.

You can play it solo but you are forced to carry around a shitty AI partner you have to micro manage. It wasn't as fun solo.

Co-op sucked all the horror, tension and suspense from the game because having a partner covering you was like a safety net. Enemy trying to sneak up on you? No sweat the AI will just automatically lock on, alert you while they shoot first telling you where they are basically.

It was the start of Capcoms fall with the Resident Evil series where it basically become an over the top generic action game which betrayed it's own survival horror roots. Least RE4 had a good blend of both but Capcom just went the wrong way with RE5, especially going off what they were going to do during the RE4.5 beta phase before co-op was added.

franwex702d ago

At least the game was a ton of fun tho. If the game was bad, the outrage would’ve been justified. They simply pivoted for a couple of games. At this point it’s bad because it’s called Resident evil 5? But if was called something else it would’ve been good? Please.

chobit_A5HL3Y701d ago

like i said: fake baby rage and bandwagon hate. res4 wasn't really that scary, either, and was already taking the series into more of an action-oriented direction at the time. 5 was a good game that people fake-hated because of co-op that you didn't even have to play lol hence the fake rage and bandwagon hate. i mean, it obviously did well enough for capcom to go ahead and make 6 the way they did, right? if 5 was so bad, they would have changed what 6 was during development. the difference is that 6 was actually just bad.

people "hate" 5 because res4 was so good, and 5 was just unfortunate enough to be its successor. like i said, 4 wasn't scary, either, and relied more on tension than horror, but it was already more of an action game. if you don't wanna like 5 because it's not scary or whatever- that's fine, but it wasn't meant to be strictly a horror game anymore at that point anyways. the gameplay was a lot faster-paced than 4, so saying that the ai helping you by potentially shooting someone that was sneaking up behind you is a moot point. there were more enemies that were more aggressive, along with newer threats.

5 isn't as good as 4, but it's not a bad game by any stretch.

RNTody677d ago (Edited 677d ago )

What? I always thought RE5 had fake controversy because it was set in South Africa and you shot a bunch of black zombies. I live in South Africa and thought the game was absolutely awesome, played the whole thing co-op with my brother.

@Foxtrot I think you're confusing the garbage Dead Space 3 with Resident Evil 5. Resident Evil 4 was already a hyper action game and had zero fear factor other than the grotesque appearance of some enemies.
