The way to get a game like Dead Space(which I think suffered more from a heavy list of big hitting games competing with it-and most of them sequels in great/famous franchises than any lack of quality-it's a stylishly presented bit of space tension with imaginative tools as weapons to cut off limbs mechanic that really worked well and had it been comng out two months earlier it would have doubled it's sales at least, imo)onto the Wii i clearly NOT to try to put the same screens through the less powerful hardware and instead play to Wii strengths and make the graphics really stylised(go more for the comic style Dead Space stills I've seen about and it could prove brilliant)and whatever you do get the motion controls right(like Resi4 but with M+ would be as good as you'd want I reckon).
Do it my way EA and all you'll lose from the original woulsd be the realistic gore and attending physics-in return you get a playable graphic novel full of great artstyle and lighting effects with a motion plus enhanced controls system that would make the Wii's Dead Space a different but pssibly not in a bad way survival horror. IMO the Wii version of RE4 is better than PS2/GC. In the absense of any new Resi love for the wii faithful from Capcom(at least RE5 on the Wii would have had a single player mode!And no the "looking after your AI partner all bloody game when it's meant to be a lonely survival horror game anyway" mode doesn' count as a sp campaign for me.
There's a big ready market of Resi fans with Wiis and done correcty Dead Space Wii should more than fit the bill. In my mind it doesn't need to be rocket science(see what I did there what with the lead character fixing, like , rockets and stuff-accidental mind)but will the smaller but surefure return of doing it cheaply prove too tempting in a EA go Ubi kind of way?

There is going to be RE5 for Wii... they said so but maybe in like 2 years, and by then RE6 will be announced so its nothing special anyway.

It just makes sense to be on Wii or DS. Nintendo systems represented 49% of all sales last year. 32% for Sony(PS2,PS3,PSP) and 19 for MS.

I dont know about you but I've been expecting this since after an IGN podcast a few weeks back. Cant wait to see if any of the other stuff turns out to be as good.

While I'm thrilled that Wii owners are getting this game as it is brilliant I am wondering how they are going to manage to get it running on Wii and keep the game scary.

Sound is the most important aspect and the area that got huge attention in reviews. Many of them mentioned how the audio stage was flawless in 5.1 It certainly makes the game as scary as it is.
As Clive Barker always says "sound is 60% of horror."

How is that going to sound in Dolby Pro Logic?
Are they going to convert the soundtrack to midis?

Also how are you going to achieve the shadows dashing past doorways?
The lighting
The limb dismembering
The kinesis with all the moveable objects
And including all that make the low poly necromorphs convincing.

It will be a hard job. I hope they manage to pull off a decent port.

It's not like if this isn't done before.

Shadows dashing past a doorway could still be done, look at Luigi's mansion on the GCN. It was full of shadows. Re1 the remake did it too.
If not they will find a solution, not everything you see in games need heavy processing power, most of it are done by optical solutions. So basically they could replace it by something really lightweight for the processors, yet give the impression there is a shadow.
The engines used on the PS3 or 360 aren't really optimized either. Cause they are basically designed for multiplatform in mind.
So if they design an efficient engine that takes good use of the hardware, they can achieve allot.

We will see how this will turn out to be, lets just wait.

Luigi's mansion didn't cast dynamic shadows the torch was just a cone that highlighted anything in it's path.

RE1 remake was easy to divert processing power to shadows because all the backgrounds were static.

Shadows were actually done on Zelda TP. Remember that bit where you go through the fog in the forest. The light swung side to side dynamically casting Links shadow side to side. But he was the only character model to display those kind of effects.

Not sure if you've played Dead Space but the lighting and shadowing is done on a pretty grand scale and is a significant part of the atmosphere (after the 5.1 sound stage).
To get a Wii version comparable will be no easy feat.
You have the light on the gun casting shadows. All the various light sources. The enemies (when they run past a doorway you don't see them but you see the shadow to make you tense.

Maybe the PS3 and 360 engines aren't as optimised as they could be, but the machines are so powerful (relatively to the Wii) that any difference the advantage of optimising for Wii gains will be negligible.

I'm sure they can create a work around for the lighting, physics and dismembering. I'll be interested to see how they manage it.

I think the IR on the Wiimote will fit well into the Dead Space control scheme well.
