Well you could always spent 100 dollars to get a 320GB laptop harddrive u can easily just switch in ur PS3 without voiding your warranty. Thats half the price of the 360 one for 200GB more. SO I don't really care I'm happy sony not charging me 200 for 120GB hardrive.

A few weeks ago site were posting the same info about Street Fighter 4 requiring a massive 5 gig install which capcom later announced it was optional. And does it really matter as so many people seem underwhelmed by the 360 Resident Evil 5 demo.

This is quite surprising to me. I have the OPM Resident Evil 5 review sitting right in front of me and I recently submitted the article, but OPM didn't even mention a PS3 hard drive installation for RE5.

But, either way, a 5GB installation is nothing that I'm not already used to. I still have around 20GB left in my launch 60GB and will be upgrading the hard drive sometime this year anyways.

I think the term "Massive Installation" is a bit overexcessive because MGS4 and other games have had an install around 5 Gigs to.

First thing I did before even connecting up my PS3 was put a 250gig in it. They make is so easy to upgrade the HDD and with the price of standard HDD's every PS3 owner with 20 or 40 should consider stepping up.

Why does the PS3 version require an install when the 360 version doesn't? Is this because of the Blu-ray speeds? Why does a game like Uncharted not have an install? I was thinking maybe a connection between games developed for the 360 and PS3 requiring PS3 to have an install but there are exclusives like MGS4 that also require it. So that theory goes out the window. If the PS3 is such a beast of power compared to the 360 why does the 360 work fine without?

I'm not flaming or trying to start a fanboy fight I just am wondering why some games have them, others don't and no 360 games require one.

5gb install means quicker loading but to be honest i remember capcom saying there is no install which imo is a bad idea for a 360 developed game I dont want awful 360 loading times on the ps3 version.

bad news? just delete the installation files for the other games and you'll be fine. besides, we DO we better FPS, faster load times and more stable gameplay, thanks to CELL and its power =)

My original HDD is 80gig, most of my games that need installing,I have 40gig left.Btw,just asking,I downloaded the Resi demo from XBL,beautiful game,but. . .looked on PSN,its not there yet? I know its irrelevent,but if you own both consoles,buy it for PS3,the 360 controller makes the controls a bit clunky.Shooting and reloading is fine,but using the knife and the rest of it doesnt feel cool at all.

im passing on re5. kz2 is gonna be taking up most of my time along with cod4 (until codmf2 comes out).

they have been used as a crutch for devs that haven't been able to optimize data placement on the Blu-Ray yet. It kinda defeats the purpose of having a blu-Ray drive if you need 5 gig installs that aren't actually improving the game over a standard DVD. If they were optional and made a significant improvement over old school DVD I think everyone would be ok with them. Since all installs don't do this, it makes them an easy target for people to rip on it.

Having mandatory installs also makes data storage on the PS3 more expensive than people realize. Sure, a 120 gig HDD for the Xbox 360 seems crazy high at $149. Since mandatory installs are not a fctor that storage is used for what ever the user wants. On the PS3 you can get an aftermarket HDD that is twice as large for the same money or even less, but you are giving that storage away with mandatory 5 gig installs. That extra space can get chewed up pretty fast if you own a decent amount of games.

While it's true you can manage your data by deleting and reinstalling the mandatory installs, you really shouldn't have to or at the very least do it less than you have to today by removing these mandatory installs that aren't improving the games enough to justify them.

Most PS3 owners are used to the installs by now. Just make some lunch come back & play it. Installs are regular to PS3 gamers now just as they are to PC gamers.

Why is it bad news for 40Gb PS3 owner or any PS3 owner for that matter. Considering all PS3's have upgradable hard drives as standard, storage is'nt even an issue. Just upgrade or delete stuff thats not required, problem solved.

The funniest thing when people try to argue that the PlayStation 3 hard drives are too small you can upgrade to a 500GB for less than the 120GB for the XBOX 360. With the comment, bad for the 40GB PlayStation 3s, if they need to upgrade it's still cheap, actually around the same price as the XBOX 360 Wireless Adaptor. In conclusion there was no point to the article and it is sensationalized.

I normally delete installs for games I no longer play and normally only have 2-3 games installed at a time on my ps3. On 360 I have 1 game installed at a time (since my hdd only has like 20g). I actually like installs cuz it reduces the amount of work the dvd or blu ray drive has to do and eliminates disc read errors on my 360.

Resident Evil 5 for the infamous POS3 is a MASSIVE FAILURE. Having to have game installations on a game console is just poor and sloppy console design.

This is pretty pathetic consdering other games like Killzone 2, Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted, Dead Space, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, etc. have little or no installs when each has a much larger scale.

The control scheme works for me as I loved RE4 on Gamecube. You CAN'T run and gun cause that wouldn't be RE. Not being able to walk and shoot at the same time, leaves you stationary thus leaving you wide open/forced to face the giant crowds of infected people or bosses... this IS indeed the way RE5 much like 4 still maintains its HORROR aspect of the game. Sure logically any of us in the given situation WOULD run and gun our way out, but IT'S A GAME! people are taking it wayyyyyyyyyyy too seriously here!.

I complained in a comment a while back about how when you're out of ammo you should ALSO be able to fight back with your arms/legs like in your counter attacks. But then I also realized that would make it more ACTION than horror. Thus why I now revoke that comment and am happy with the choices Capcom took to still make RE the way they did!

TO ALL THE HATERS! ONLY people that got to play it so far (and I mean the masses, not the select few that got the disc base copy select PS3 owners got to play) are the 360 owners that DL'd the demo. Im pretty damn sure all the people bashing RE5 are the 360 owners as they AREN'T familiar with the franchise unless they have played the series main entries on Playstation and the also other greats on Gamecube!. When you are used to run/gun/cover like Gears, of course you WON'T grasp the gameplay/concept of the game!. Thus in my opinion makes 360 owners opinions of RE5 void to me. Playstation owners that bash the game are ALSO probbly new comers to the series, as I feel MOST PS3 owners that are bashing RE5... ONLY looked at the title at all due to its GRAPHICS. Being the NEW graphics junkies PS3 owners have finally become because of KZ2... I bet the GRAPHICS are the only reason MOST PS3 owners are even looking at this title!.

I HAVE thoroughly enjoyed damn near EVERY RE game ever made with some of their failed attempts being noted!. Im EXTREMELY stoked for RE5 as I have been with the title across EVERY console release of the series. RE5 graphics ARE breath taking. RE5's controls are slightly tweaked from RE4, which ISN'T a bad thing!. The game still works and stays true to the new path for the series that RE4 has paved for it!. I have both the 360 and PS3 collectors editions of 5 reserved. The 360 version to play co-op with my Live buddies, the PS3 version to have almost the complete series for the Playstation brand (minus the Remake of RE1 and also RE0). Im a huge fan of the series and am pretty awestruck by this game now after playing the 360 demo!

NOW ABOUT THE CONTROLS! Im a HUGE survival horror game fan. I'd say the scarriest I've ever played is the Fatal Frame series. But I do love RE, Silent Hill, Siren, etc.. as well. If YOU love survival horror games as much as me, you know damn well that the controls have ALWAYS BEEN BAD in survival horror games. But it adds to the tension and immersion of the horror being thrown at you, which is where these games SUCCEED!. If you complain about the controls you most likely have NEVER played a survival horror game... or just NEVER should! cause this has been the formula for generations for these type of games!

To the 360 fans b!tching about the game, you most likely NEVER played the series before and RE4 DON'T count. I mean REALLY have played the series. Cause Im willing to bet that 99% of you haven't. So your opinions don't really carry any weight!. To all the PS3 fans b!tching about it, you also may have NEVER played the series and or have ONLY checked it out cause you heard of its graphics and almost had your heart torn out when it was compared to KZ2 a few articles back!. As long as RE5 sells to its die hard dedicated fans and gains a few new ones (that hopefully want to then play through the back catalogue)... i have a 360 and ps3 and obviously i have online for both, dont believe add me UCHENDU for psn xbl, anyways i have the re5 demo and i am definitely not impressed, graphics are nice but i felt like there was no true emotion from the characters, and controls are old for this day and age , you cant shoot and move how realistic is that? not gonna lie if a horde of zombies where chasing me i would be running and shooting, i wouldnt standing in one spot trying to get head shots , but thats just me.

you see this is why i like 360. if i'm going to install something, let me install the whole damn thing. droids have to install part of the game, and their drives are still being used to play it, causing wear and tear. thing is, if i install the whole game or not the 360 version going to be the best again. i wonder if this will take 20 minutes,(dmc4 did) because there again i can install the WHOLE fucing game in 10 on 360. well.. i have a PS3 and a 360 elite. Fact is, that i install nearly all games to my 360s HDD cause the DVD is as loud as my vacuum cleaner.

It doesnt change the fact that installs really suc? bad. If the PS3 would have a 4 or 6x BR drive, installs wouldnt be necessary.

well that sucks, my 60 gig broke a long time ago and was replaced with a 40, looks like i'm not getting this then.

To all the kiddies that are going to upgrade their hard drives make sure you find one that has a highere rpm and cache ability. this makes textures load faster that are saved on it. also i have never upgraded my ps3 still 60gb launch console and going strong. i can manage my downloads as i normally play a game once to the end if it is SP i dont see the point playing it again as i remember it in my mind like a special story that only i went through.
