Marathon Review In Progress: Just getting started

"There’s a lot here, most of it good, and as long as Sony backs Marathon through this teething phase I think we could have a gem on our hands – with some aggressive polishing, of course," Hamish writes in our review.

I have read many reviews and it seems that the game is actually good ... will check it out myself.

Haven't played it, not gonna play it.

But if I can offer anyone some advice on using reviews to determine your purchase (probably more common now since people generally need to spend more carefully), if you're not trying to get a sense of the field and see where reviews converge (read them first obviously to see where the common pain points exist), choose one reviewer you really trust from an outlet you trust and go from there.

I tend to agree very often with Gamespot reviews generally, so that's usually where I go when I'm not sure about a game.

But that said, I wouldn't say many reviewers disliking a game makes them haters. It's very likely that people agree that on common issues. Nothing wrong with that.

I've been looking forward to this game for a long time... then I got worried... now I'm back to getting excited. I expected as a new IP the first release will be the roughest release, but as long as it's fun and they commit to updates, I think this is gonna be a good ride.

True Marathon is old. The problem is the franchise was dormant so long most people see it as a new franchise

Bungie's PvPvE extraction shooter set on Tau Ceti IV in 2893. The gunplay inherits and refines Destiny's best-in-class shooting mechanics, heavy, precise, lethal. The extraction loop creates authentic pressure. The foundation is exceptional. The superstructure needs building.

“ Is it April fools day again?

The game is dead.

EDIT: the numbers are fudged. “digital sales on Nintendo and Xbox weren’t included in the data”

Does it hurt you to hear a SONY game was BEST selling ?
You gotta let go of those OBCURED feelings 🤷🏿

Neonridr18d ago

I mean the only reason MLB was the best selling title was because it was multi-platform. Likewise with Marathon. Will ring true for MS games. Only Nintendo titles are truly flexing their muscles when they chart as they are only to be found there.

S2Killinit17d ago

So that means we are going to act like it wasn’t best selling?

Neonridr17d ago

@S2Killinit - no it means that it was not entirely due to Sony.

VersusDMC16d ago

"Leading the way was MLB The Show 26. And while digital sales on Nintendo and Xbox weren’t included in the data, it still found its way to the number one spot despite only being on the market for two weeks at the time."

Don't let your nintendo bias get ahead of you and just lie...

jambola17d ago

you know when you hit caps lock you can turn it off before finishing a word right?
it's not a commitment

I was typing on my old iPad with near full memory and it was acting up 🤷🏿

Outside_ofthe_Box18d ago

Can't wait to see how this is spun negatively. 😜

-Foxtrot17d ago

Yeah sure, yet the player count is no where near what they want for a AAA game with so much money behind it

Why people are trying to spin this game like it’s done overly amazing is baffling to me.

It won’t even be a blip on peoples radars by the end of the year .

S2Killinit17d ago

I really doubt that. I see it getting more and more traction.

ChunkyMonk17d ago

You must me typically wrong cuz those Steam chart numbers (AKA where the game sold the MOST) is less than what Hunt has, and Hunt didn't cost $500 million to make lol

Haki111217d ago

From the launch to now it went from 88k to 20k peak on steam that's like a 77% percent loss of players how is that gaining traction? Also if the people who are close to Bungie aren't lying PC users are the primary players.

terrorofdeath17d ago

by the end of the year? probably sooner than that

Soy17d ago

So........doing better than most expected, but not enough to make back what it cost.
