Review - Subnautica (Switch 2) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Leo Faria: "What you are really here for is to know if the Switch 2 port of Subnautica is a vast improvement over the previous Switch version. It certainly is, and if you’re not the owner of a Steam Deck or a beefier ROG Ally, this is, without a doubt, the best portable version of the game ever released. If that is enough for you to either buy it or merely update your older port is up to you, as there isn’t anything novel about it anymore (the Switch port is already half a decade old). Then again, it’s not like you need too many reasons to play one of the best survival games ever made once more anyway, but in a slightly more polished version…"

Are a bunch of games, some of which are nearly 10 years old not one being from 2026. Barely one from 2025.

I do like the irony of the closing paragraph though, "Why VR Adventure Games are Thriving". Really buddy?

mooreneco2159d ago

That’s because it’s his favourite VR adventure games thus far, a great game always a great game regardless of age - Half life 2/ Ocarina of time - are old but still among the greatest games of all time. The irony of it is several are from last year, depending on platform, have you even played VR?

Great month, sub nautica not really my thing but i can see why others like it, ace combat and undisputed look good as does the indie surprise ultros

Undisputed somehow went backwards compared to Fight Night Champion from 2011. Such a massive letdown.

I was following the game pretty closely pre-release, but as tome went on it really wasn't even reaching Fight Night Round 2 levels of gameplay mechanics and physics, so disappointed 😔

Typical bad PS Essential month.

Eonjay133d ago

This is a good month two me. I got two games on there on my wishlist. I suppost 'good' is completely subjective. What would be a good month for you?

Does ps plus always do 4 games?

BISHOP-BRASIL130d ago

No it has been usually 3 for a time now, but they are dropping PS4 only games in 2026, I believe when they announced it was specifically said January 2026 was supposed to be the last time, but no PS4 only games were given last month and given Ace Combat 7 in indeed a PS4 only game (PS5 runs it, but entirely emulated as a PS4 game), I guess they have added it as 4th in February to bid last gen farewell and not break the trust of those expecting to get 3 PS5 or at least multigenerational games per month.

Officially (as per their announcement last year) games with PS4 and PS5 versions will still come to the service normally and when they do they'll still be playable on PS4, but going forward games with no PS5 versions will not be added to either the Essential tier monthly games or the Extra tier catalog. Speculation is they may still release PS4 only games but now on the Premium/Deluxe tier "classics catalog" only, which have been very lacking in the last couple years... So with this one move they could do two things: 1st push PS4 holdouts to migrate into next (current) gen already and, 2nd, boost the Classics Catalog perceived value by adding games that don't need a cent spent into porting it over, hopefully making that tier more sought after and even more profitable.

Outstanding month, i love essentials because you keep the game forever as long as you are a plus customer.

FPSRUSSIA133d ago

even if you cancel you still keep them and when you Sub again you can play them again .
