Code Vein II Review [Capsule Computers]

Travis Bruno of Capsule Computers writes:

"It can be hard to make a mark in a genre where even back in 2019 Soulslikes were brimming with variations. That is when Bandai Namco tried something a bit different, infusing anime-styled characters and a storyline packed with unique takes on the genre with Code Vein. Offering a different approach to combat, skills, and even the standard approach to playing with allies, Code Vein found itself a certain niche with its style and now seven years later the series has returned and is looking to reinvent itself again. Only this time, it will do so both with some time traveling and an open world to boot. The question is, have these adjustments to Code Vein II retained what made the original unique enough to stand out from the pack?"

PS5 Outsells Switch 2 in the US in January 2026, Code Vein II Debuts in 11th Place

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in the US for January 2026 in terms of units sold and dollar sales, according to figures from Circana (formerly The NPD Group). Circana includes the dates for the four-week period of January 4 to 31.

Well congrats to them. As far as the Switch 2 is concerned.. it should be obvious by now that it is priced too high!

Elda3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

All it really is...is a Switch Pro.

badz1493d ago

it's actually worse. almost no free performance upgrades for your existing games and they are selling old games for $70 and $80 for that performance uplift

Scissorman3d ago

there also isn't much incentive. im sure most parents are content the og switch their kids already own.

TheCaptainKuchiki3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Too expensive for a Switch 1.5

ChunkyMonk3d ago

and yet people bought the PS5 when they only have PS4 games lol

ChunkyMonk3d ago

and yet Bluepoint getting sacked and Sony selling their TV division means they're CLEARLY not having money troubles, right? lol

repsahj3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

The Gap of PS5 and Switch 2 sales in US/Americas is just 15k units.

I am not sure why the Switch 2 is being outsold by the ps5.

I remember there being a campaign by Sony to get the stragglers on the PS4 to upgrade, but surely that push is not this effective right?

Nintendo got too greedy with the switch 2.

ChunkyMonk3d ago

You realize that most of the games that came out this month was ONLY on Playstation cuz Sony gatekept them right? lol

gold_drake3d ago

price and games.

switch 2 has .. 2 games as for now. and not everyone likes donkey kong.

just my two cents on it

Why there is no data? Ok let's compute.....

PS5 January 2025 sales is 301,863. According to circana PS5 january 2026 sales is down 17% from last year. So...
301,863 - 51317 = 250,546 (estimated sales in january)..

Meanwhile in Japan january 2026 sales. Switch 2 sold 318,816 and PS5 sold 42,929. The Difference is 275k+ units.

So what is the data of #2 console in US for january 2026? I am sure it is not just 100k sold. XD

Scissorman3d ago

what's the point of bringing up Japan sales in a topic about US?

repsahj3d ago

to compare? it is a sin posting comparisons?

Man I got heat for saying the switch 2 was the OPPOSITE of what MOST Nintendo fans are used to and wanted. Nintendo has always innovated and has not tried to be the “most powerful” anything since N64. Every iteration of Nintendo systems and handhelds took things in a new direction and offered experiences you could only get there. From the Virtual boy to the N64 controller to the GameCube controller everything offered some different way to interact with gaming. The Wii was like a nuke. The WiiU was more of an enhancement, but still offered a new way to interact. The Switch let you take gaming on the go with console level graphics. Passing a joycon to a friend for 2players. Sliding switches together for one screen. Truly innovative stuff. For Nintendo to offer a Switch 2 and it’s just better graphics and screen… generations of Nintendo tells you graphics are not high on a Nintendo fans list. It’s a companion console. Want the graphics, turn on A. Want the experience? Jump on Nintendo. All the “Nintendo is going to destroy blah blah when the switch 2 hits” has been wildly silent.

I get every system and while I thought Xbox would be the first system I didn’t get day one in generations, it turned out to be the Switch 2. Nintendo, get back to being Nintendo with whatever you do next.

ChunkyMonk3d ago

for someone with every system, you seem to forget how weak the PS2 hardware was and yet people preferred it over the more powerful GameCube or XBox lol

hiawa233d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Great point. I preferred, Xbox, GC and Dreamcast over the PS2 hardware, but I still owned them all.

@ChunkMonky
Was it more powerful than the Xbox? Again, Nintendo were not focused on being the most powerfully anything after the N64. The GameCube released over a year after the PS2. Back then technology grew FAST. Of course it was more powerful than the Year old PS. It was known that the Xbox was going to be even more powerful than that and Nintendo made no strides to even come close to out doing it and they released almost the same time. Nor did I say the most powerful console is the most liked. I said Nintendo never chased power, they chased innovation. With switch 2 they simply added power- not something Nintendo or its users are used to. They are used to innovative advances. Your reading comprehension is in question at this point.
