A pretty big hit to the "EDGE always glaze Nintendo" narrative.

coolbeans24d ago

Damn. Can't believe I missed that layup.

lol

I’m just about to finish it and I think that’s really harsh score. I was thinking more like a seven. All the parts, apart from the desert are fantastic and I think it’s the second best Metroid prime in the whole series.

Gamersunite88025d ago

I'm doing a review for my site and oh boy are Edge gonna get it for this.

coolbeans25d ago

I'm confused. You mean a review for Metroid Prime 4 or something else?

jznrpg25d ago

I’m sure they are worried

Gamersunite88024d ago

I'm sure them and their 10k readers will come after me. 🤣🤣

did Nintendo stop sending money their way or something?

Good thing MP4 make it to the top 10.

Gamersunite88037d ago

If you count digital, it did a little better than Dread. From what I'm hearing, Prime 4 had the biggest debut ever for a Metroid Game.

interesting to see that in docked mode the game is using a higher base resolution (1440p) and then downscaling it for the 1080p output resolution for Performance mode. Don't see that too often. Also means that the Switch 1 probably hampered a bit of this game unfortunately. Would love to see what a game built for the Switch 2 from the ground up would look like. Also nice to see that in handheld mode the game is running at full resolution at 60fps with no compromises (for Quality mode)

It's nice to see that there isn't a massive difference between Quality and Performance when it comes to things like draw distance, textures, etc. Performance mode still looks really good. I'll be playing on Quality though because it'll look amazing at 4K on my OLED.

Can't believe we are finally here after what felt like an eternity.

Jin_Sakai44d ago

Agreed. Digital Foundry praised the visuals and performance. It’s a locked 60fps and 120fps no fluctuating nonsense. They also said it has one of the best HDR implementations they’ve ever seen. Going to look amazing on OLED for sure.

repsahj43d ago

Because of that I want to upgrade to OLED now!!! Is mini LED as good as OLED?

Jin_Sakai43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

@repsahj

“mini LED as good as OLED“

No. Get a Samsung S95F OLED or Samsung S90F OLED if you want the best gaming TV currently on the market.

I have both the Samsung and LG OLED TVs and while the LG is amazing the Samsung Quantum Dot OLED is much brighter and the colors really pop.

I agree LG and Samsung are really good if you got the budget for one. I myself have LG G4. I opted for that one over Samsung because, me personally found Samsung brightness to be overly bright. And I was squinting my eyes on several occasions when I was looking at it. My friend has a 77" so I was testing it there. But I think anyone who spends the money on either LG or Samsung will be happy with their purchase.

I can confirm this, i am playing on an LG G4 75 inch and my god, the lighting in this game and HDR look incredible. It truly is a showpiece for SWITCH 2, and i am excited to see what a new prime game built exclusively on switch 2 will look and perform like. Retro Studios are true masters of art design, and make any hardware shine. The colors pop and particle effects too all look incredible.

Top hint, go into the games options and turn off the helmet and you can enjoy the games awesome art even more, played every prime game like this and I was so happy to see they included this into the latest installment too. The game just oozes personality, modern games focus too much on realistic graphics and forget about art design and atmosphere, both which retro smash.

I used to love Samsung sync masters for gaming but then had a few with bad capacitors which would die after 2 or so years.. so then moved to LG, such an awesome tv brand for gaming. LOW as hell input lag which is the most important feature for gaming. Since moving to LG i have never looked back, i use LG ultra gears for my gaming monitors and the G series for my tvs. I only keep my old favorite brand TV Sony Bravias for movies and everything else. They still don't even give you 4 2.1 HDMI slots as a standard which is nonsense in this day and age while still charing premium prices.

But Sony bravias are overall awesome tvs for movies and general use.. i still hate LG web os and just prefer android tv like the bravias use, I wish we could install our own os to then install google tv android os on my LG would be the ultimate tv but sadly that's not an option.

Have been a life long Sony brand fan all my life, my whole family only ever buy Sony tvs and sound systems, cameras etc etc they tend to price their tech higher but for that price they have never let me down and thier tech lasts and rarely fails.

But i would advise all gamers to get an LG OLED if you game, they truly are the best gaming tvs overall.
Lowest input lag, 4 hdmi 2.1 as a standard, HDR and 144hz all work great. They are not as good as bravias for movies but are serviceable.
Now i use my gaming rig on my LG ultra gear and then when i want to chill on the sofa i just play my gaming rig on my LG G4 and chill and game like usual.

I will play Quality Mode for my first play through, I want to experience the game in full resolution first. Besides, 60 fps is still great. Then after NG+, I will try the 120fps.

Gamersunite88043d ago

Prime 4 is a premium experience on the Switch 2. It looks amazing and I am so excited to see what the next Prime game will be like.
