Charter launching 60Mbps broadband

Broadband bragging rights could go to Charter Communications, which is ready to launch a 60 Mbps service. It would apparently be the fastest available to U.S. consumers. No details yet on price or when, or where, the service will appear from the cableco.

60 Mbps would top telco Verizon, which sells 50 Mbps service through its FiOS fiber-optic service. Comcast last year started rolling out 50 Mbps service in some of its cable markets at a monthly cost of $150.

Wow, all I can say is lan party at my house if this comes through.

You can get 100Mpbs in Canada :) Have it set up nicely on my Docsis 3.0 modem

Too bad Charter just went chapter eleven. :(

US is one of the few countries that doesn't have broadband standard...yes, there are STILL people on 56k..

SaiyanFury6314d ago

Agreed, I only HAVE access to 1.5mbps. 60mbps is nice although I wouldn't pay that much for it.

FinalFantasyFanatic6313d ago (Edited 6313d ago )

At least the US is better off then Australia, Try paying $50 for 512 connection and a 10 gig cap. It's no surprise that a significant amount of people here still use Dial-up (I install alot of Dial-up modems in computers where I work).

I'm still praying that when our NBN finishes it's tender/review process which is going to take 1 year and 3 months, it ends up being FTTH or FTTP.

Although If I lived in the US I wouldn't pay $150 for 60mb, especially if I didn't need internet that fast.

I feel your pain, FFF believe me. I've read about the horrors of ISPs and their ridiculous caps in Australia.

$150 a month? And I thought the UK was expensive at £50 a month

LeShin6314d ago

yeah, $150 a month is bloody nuts! I'm actually thinking of getting Virgins 50mb broadband but £50 a month will hurt.....and have you seen the installation costs?!

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing15d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9215d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit15d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing15d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9215d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
