I'm of the opinion that this is not plagiarism, the game takes heavy inspiration but still has it's own style, more like the japanese manga/anime style. And I can't imagine that Sony has a monopoly on a ruined Earth setting with robot dinosaurs, but that's just my humble opinion. We will see.

KyRo42d ago

I'm not even a massive Horizon fan, it's Sonys version of a 'Ubisoft formula game' (without the hate) but you have to be completely delusional to not see that this is pretty much a rip off you'd expect from a mobile game, not a console you planned to release the game on, especially the creators of the console lol

"I can't imagine that Sony has a monopoly on a ruined Earth setting with robot dinosaurs"

And they never did, maybe don't fall for the BS angle Tencent is pushing, no one is being prevented from making a post-apocalyptic game with animal mechs. But made we shouldn't ignore that:
1. Tencent sought Sonys approval for licensing HZD not once but twice, both times shut down and they STILL went ahead and developed it.
2. In Sonys complaint there is mentioning of marketing material for LoM being substantially similar to a presentation Tencent showed Sony.

And for something less factual and more hypothetical, it's been delayed to Q4 2027, when it was initially meant for 2025. Now why is that? truly, if it wasn't considered a "rip-off" why the massive delay if not for possibly changing/reworking elements and assets?

Ristul42d ago

To me they look destinctly different, I would not have a hard time to spot the difference when it comes to the artstyle of the characters, maybe it would be more difficult with the environments but you can't patent realistic environments. I loved Horizon, but I simply don't agree that this is plagiarism.

got_dam41d ago

They are more anime, sure... but everything from armor to enemy designs are straight up copies. Tencent is a proven shady ass company.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty8h ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan11h ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher8h ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty8h ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies122h ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

Good! .....and no more awfully boring simulators as well please!

galgor1d 1h ago

You didn't see the group of simulator games that just launched then, eh?

Eonjay1d 7h ago

Next story will be about how Sony is hurting gamers by blocking trash games.

lodossrage22h ago

....don't give them ideas.....

gold_drake1d 7h ago

dude who made those games definitely made bank with them tho.

im glad they're gone tho

jznrpg1d 5h ago

I hate those trophy whore games so good.

DivineHand1251d 5h ago

Too bad for the trophy hunters, but this action is necessary.

The existence of these games for the sole purpose of helping people pad their trophy list cheapens the experience.

It also clutters the store with garbage games.

jambola20h ago

I wouldn't even care if you could just filter them
but I like sorting by newest to oldest to see new games and this really just ruins it
