Bottom line is it's shithouse when compared to the other options available to players. If it was a better game, then it would be performing better. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving dev.

This is simply what happens when there is competition. BO7 marketing has been trying everything but Arc Raiders and BF6 are out there and taking away their cut of the pie.

Eonjay43d ago

Yeah no kidding lol. I was in PSN earlier today and on the front page there are like 3 Call of Duty banners in a row... followed by an Redsec BF6 banner and an Arc Raiders banner.

For me its just pure exhaustion of Call of Duty. I always keep up with the Black Ops and I am just done.

rigokas43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

It's weird that they called the first Battlefield, Battlefield 6.

The game has always had competition in some form. Blaming it on competition is just a way to not acknowledge the fact that everyone in this article just two yeas ago was telling us how putting the game on Game Pass was going to "revolutionize" Game Pass, CoD and the Game Industry on the whole.

It's just more proof how wrong all these analysts were in every single aspect of the Microsoft buyout of ABK.

Well I guess next year will be the year Game Pass reaches a billion subscribers, right?

43d ago
Michiel198943d ago

so you're basically saying the 10 years before that it was basically peak gaming

lukasmain42d ago

Once again, what in the hell are you even talking about?

Michiel198942d ago

for you the sales of a game decides if a game is good apparently and CoD sold a LOT or do sales only matter now that they're down?

Yet the Season One updates are so backed up they are crawling along on 500 MB or higher connections due to all the games updating.

44d ago
Eonjay43d ago

Well how big are the updates. The store says it needs 217 GB minimum for an install.

Lightning7744d ago

Yep next year MS will cut ABK very hard next year unfortunately imo Come lay off time they're getting gutted pretty hard.

The_Hooligan43d ago

Next November it will be competing against GTA6 if they do another annual release. So if the numbers are low now, I wonder what will happen next year.

Also with Wolverine, it says Fall 2026 so do they release that game in early October or late September or push to 2027 to not compete with GTA6.

Lightning7742d ago

According to Insomniac they're not moving.

Why? I have no idea. Every game no matter how big will get decimated by GTA. Honestly, they're moving I simply don't believe they're not moving. Sony won't allow that, they can't allow that.

MrDead44d ago

When you literally have the worst owner in the industries history this fall in quality and in turn fall in players is to be expected. MS has the reverse Midas touch.

PlayStation and Xbox's most-played games of 2025 were the same as 2024's in the US, data suggests

Another night of Fortnite with the boys then?

I’ve never played Fortnite GTAV or CoD BO7 but I do own GTAV for PS4/5 because I got them cheap.

gold_drake9d ago

i think we should either take those games out, or make a singleplayer list too ha

badboyz099d ago

I still play gta V alot. The others nah.

Popsicle9d ago

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Tacoboto9d ago

What exactly are we not getting?

Did we not just have a 2025 filled with nice games like...

Silksong, Doom TDA, Expedition 33, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Ghost of Yotei, Dispatch, Split Fiction, Hades 2, DK Bananza, and so many more?

Popsicle9d ago

Agree that all you just posted are great games. Expedition 33 is one of my favorites. Spent a large chunk of time on BG3 in 2023. Another for my all-time list.

My point though not well articulated in the OG post is that we would get more of the games of the quality you mentioned if so many valuable resources were not allocated to FTP slop and/or heavy monetization schemes. Some of what used to be my favorite franchises have been ruined by them.

To sum it up, I would like to see games like 33 outperform the profits made by games like Fortnite so more resources are allocated to great games. When heavily monetized FTP games are at the top of the list, we end up being stuck with a significant chunk of games that are not good. Or worst case scenario games that spend years in development, but get cancelled due to industry trend chasing.

cloganart9d ago

Such a pessimistic view. This year gave so many good games.

Christopher9d ago

Popsicle, I actually think we're getting more great games because of the slop. Developers are seeing that people aren't happy and taking advantage of big AAA studios not delivering for people.

Popsicle9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Perhaps, and I hope you’re right. A shift is needed IMO

How The Call Of Duty Franchise Can Thrive Again

Skewed and Reviewed have posted an Opinion Piece that explores options that can be brought to the Call of Duty series in order to address fatigue and fan frustration.

badboyz0923d ago

I used to be a big zombies player.Just go to old format no fluff no loadout, gobblegums just the old perks and the zombies.

shagri-LA was a hard zombies map that made it great! monkeys took perks zombies came fast they had the big fire zombies. great times.

Goodguy0123d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Easy

Step 1. Remaster and release MW2 (original) MP with full support for many years to come.

Step 2. Release new COD once every 3-4 years and actually put quality and effort into campaign and MP.

Step 3. Keep OG Classic SBMM for normal non ranked playlists forever.

Step 4: COD Zombies should be it's own thing, it's own release every 3-4 years with 2 years of major content support. The only mode I enjoy playing anymore from cod.

...Not that they even need to anyways as they'll still sell, why they'll keep doing yearly releases with minimal effort.

23d ago
chicken_in_the_corn23d ago

Go back to being single player focused and make sequels to a few of the on off games.

Michiel198922d ago

wdym go back? cod has always had a major focus on mp, I put hundreds of hours into cod1 not because i was replaying the campaign for the 25th time in a row.

Eonjay23d ago

Reduce instal size
Support the Switch 2 like you said
Take a break... at least 2 years
Make the game less focused on MTX and Passes
Create something new with new assets
Stop with the stupid stories. Our at least make it interesting.

Black Ops 7 Discounted by 50% Just One Month After Release

Inside Gaming writes: "In what seems like about of recognition of the poor review scores and lack of hype around the latest Call of Duty title, Best Buy has slashed the price. Right now, for one day only, you can get Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 for just $34.99, barely five weeks after release."

After Windows XP or maybe after the Xbox 360, Microsoft became Microflop.

MrDead27d ago

From IGN:

"Clearly, all is not well in the world of Call of Duty. Black Ops 7 appears to have struggled for players and sales relatively speaking amid tough competition from the likes of EA’s Battlefield 6 and Embark Studios’ Arc Raiders, and coming out just a year after Black Ops 6. Microsoft is yet to announce a player count or a sales figure for Black Ops 7, nor has it detailed any boost to Game Pass subscriber numbers as a result of its launch. Clearly, it hasn’t met its expectations.

Last month, sales data suggested Black Ops 7 was struggling not just against rival shooter Battlefield 6, but also last year’s Black Ops 6. The Game Business reported that Black Ops 7’s European launch saw opening week sales down 63% versus Battlefield 6 during the equivalent launch periods for each shooter, and Black Ops 7 also down by more than 50% versus Black Ops 6. All in all, Black Ops 7 had a “terrible” launch, The Game Business’ chief Chris Dring said in a post on social media."

https://www.ign.com/article...

"Black Ops 7 physical sales down 61% as it fails to beat Battlefield 6 launch"

https://metro.co.uk/2025/11...

On Steam Battlefield 6 is currently in the top 10 at number 8, BO7 is at number 82 and fast falling out of the top 100.

And the fact that game sales are at an all time low. I've been saying for a few years, gaming is about to crash as it did in 1983.

Elda27d ago

I'm so glad I didn't have to purchase COD last year & this year due to having GPU. I like COD for the Campaigns & Zombie mode, this year's COD campaign is just horrible, played it for 45 mins & deleted it.

Wow call of duty really need to come up with a banger of a game next time if they want to survive this. It's gonna be about going back to the roots. This Fortnite cartoon apex style call of duty they have now is not gonna survive one more game. Please Activision come back to the roots with the games we all fell in love with.
