Returnal has that sense of isolation. Depends of what a series is aiming for.

Miles MacKenzie is worse than any Sony NPC, tbf. GOW: Ragnarok added an option to stop the puzzle hints. When you remove that issue (and I agree, it's annoying), the dialogue is good and Atreus has always served a gameplay purpose - the player has control over his bow. He has never only existed to handhold.

Mackenzie does not have a single good line of dialogue from the footage I've seen. If you removed all of the hints and obvious commentary, he wouldn't have much dialogue left. His entire existence seems to be because of a lack of trust in the player

Metroid doesn't have to be like Doom though. It doesn't always have to be just you against the world all the time.

Honestly, having some random NPCs in the game isn't gonna make me suddenly not have fun.

No, it doesn’t need to be like DOOM. It does need to be like Metroid though, and guess what Metroid, at least the good ones, doesn’t have? Yapping NPCs. The only that had anything close to that, was Other M.

Because that is the issue. If it were a fixed NPC in a single area, where the player only interacts with them when they want to, that would be a completely different discussion.
