Sony and Polyphony Digital hosted round 3 of the Gran Turismo 7 GT World Series 2025 Manufacturers Cup, and they had an announcement to share
It’s hard to believe but Gran Turismo 7 was released on the PS5 and PS4 around four years ago now. Like most games nowadays its 4K and HDR visuals mean it still looks decent – but it’s been progressively upgraded throughout the years with free DLC content, too. Enter the Power Pack; a new, paid-for DLC that promises to cater towards more hardcore gamers with a chunk of extra content and races. It’s only for PS5 and PS5 Pro, mind.
It’s yours for £24.99 and promises a host of new events, along with a small collection of new cars and a dollop of in-game cash too. But is it worth the money?
The sim-racing hardware landscape has undergone a massive transformation in the last few years. What was once a niche market dominated by a few key players has exploded into a multi-million dollar industry, with brands like Fanatec, Logitech, Thrustmaster, Nacon, and Moza fighting for space on sim-racer’s rigs.
As more manufacturers eye the PlayStation ecosystem, the question of how Gran Turismo handles this influx of hardware has become an interesting topic. Speaking at the 2025 World Series Finals in Fukuoka, Japan, Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi addressed the studio’s strategy for hardware compatibility, the “Spec III” update, and why the PC’s “freedom” isn’t always the right path for a console experience.
How 'bout they just come to pc too! Would be a great addition, especially for vr racing.
Why bother?
Most of the personal computer crowd feel they have better options with iracing and assetto. And they're VERY vocal about that.
I'd really love for it to come to PC too... More options is NEVER a bad thing. Plus I hate moving my PSVR2 over to my console just to play Gran Turismo. It's like the one VR game that I have to switch to a different system for.
Although the situation has improved in recent iterations, for much of its history the Gran Turismo series has been heavily criticized for its engine sounds. During the PlayStation 2 and 3 eras, engine notes were often compared to "vacuum cleaners"; the result of synthesized loops that lacked the soul and mechanical violence of their real-world counterparts.
Video games sounds keep evolving with every new generation be it a little or a lot eventually it will get to the point of been inside the race car
Oh nice. I myself own a Polestar 2. Great cars. Except for the outdated infotainment system they still use. lol.
