Rockstar accused of 'the most ruthless act of union busting in the history of the UK games industry'

Rockstar parent Take-Two Interactive says all the employees in question were fired for "gross misconduct."

rlow175d ago (Edited 75d ago )

Well in the uk they may be able to do that. But with the advent of AI coming into its own. Unions might be the only way for people to keep their jobs.

joab77774d ago

It is. Heres the problem. These companies will get as creative as humanly possible, cutting all non-union jobs and using as much tech to replace jobs until they finally file bankruptcy and go under. So I guess just pray you retire first.
The real problem is the pension. Who will fund them once these companies do? I work for a big company that is unionized and it’s had drastic effects.

rlow175d ago

I read the article and of course Rockstar won’t admit that they fired them for attempting a union. These corps are all the same. The only reason MS agreed to anything was because they were trying to buy Activision Blizzard so they had to play nice.

gold_drake75d ago

lol

just how many can u fire people for the same reason.

come on

PRIMORDUS75d ago

I never supported Rockstar or those shit
bags Take Two, I actually never bought
anything from them, but I torrented a whole lot. I will never support them, or EA, Blizzard or MS. The list of companies grows but I will take what I can from them because companies like this do not deserve your money. It will only get worse as time goes on so I'm not supporting companies like them.

PRIMORDUS74d ago

I will not give companies like this money, they don't deserve it, if all they do is fire people, when they don't need to, and just always being greedy. I will take from them what's available.

Si-Fly74d ago

That’s fine, if you want to take a stand then don’t buy their games. But don’t steal them either, why on earth do you think that’s okay? Apple isn’t a great company either, do you steal iPads and iPhones?

UnbreakableAlex74d ago

Downloading is not stealing. The more people buy, the higher prices we get. Companies are always greedy.

Getting on your high horse, proclaiming your superior morality all the while proudly admitting you’re a thieving scumbag is not a great look.

Jingsing74d ago (Edited 74d ago )

Capitalism is by its very nature legalized thievery, Have you never heard the expression "You show me a rich man and I'll show you a thief" Morality is not absolute either, it is a scale. So if you are comparing a mega corporations thievery against a person pirating a game. The corporation is much more egregious on the scale. But no one wants to operate on a scale or a spectrum these days.

joab77774d ago (Edited 74d ago )

Truth is we need to find a way to evolve as we always have. Socialism isn’t the answer because it creates 2 classes, the rich and the poor. And while we are headed this way anyway, at least there’s the change to adapt, the chance for new jobs to be created.
Problem is that AI isn’t like the Industrial Revolution or the advent of the internet. It does everything better than everything else. So it’s going to be tough.
We will want human interaction for sure, but for those who think we will demand items made by humans, they will become the luxury of the rich.
The only possibility is if AI gets so efficient that it’s able to provide ppl with most their wants for free, then all we have to strive for is purpose.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty7h ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan10h ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher7h ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty7h ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies121h ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

Kotick Made $155 million from MS in the buyout, the little b*tch needs to stop whining. Thanks to this Microslop deal and massive industry consolidation thousands upon thousands of devs and other workers lost their livelihoods. This greedy piggie pervert needs shut up and f-off.
