‘Halo is on PlayStation going forward’

VGC writes: "Speaking during an announcement stream, in which Halo Studios officially revealed the remake of the original Halo campaign for Xbox, PS5, and PC, community director Brian Jarrard appeared wearing a PlayStation t-shirt and confirmed it was the studio’s intention for the series to remain multiplatform."

If you saw last month console sales it's no wonder anymore.

solideagle218d ago

I think hardware doesn't make as much money as software sales. MS is now a juggernaut when it comes to IP, so it doesn't make sense to restrict on one platform? I am not defending MS but I thought why make exclusives anymore when hardware sales are down as well in my opinion

rlow1218d ago

I agree with you. They have purposely pivoted towards this. They have put way less emphasis on Xbox and way more on play anywhere on any device…….but hey when the likes of Amy Hood say thirty percent……what can you do?

AsimMehmood218d ago

Have you seen how many gaming studios have been shut down or acquired over the past decade? Software development is just as risky if not more than hardware in the gaming industry. Hardware has its place, and software has its place. Not everyone can think like that and give up on their platform. Where will the customer play their game if nobody wants to maintain a hardware platform? And hardware can make money too if you want; it all depends upon striking a balance between power and price, as well as attractive, exclusive software. Look at Nintendo. They are making billions from both hardware and software.

solideagle218d ago (Edited 218d ago )

wrong post...

HyperMoused218d ago

They killed hardware sales on purpose, by making having an Xbox useless, by making everything multiplatform, hardware sales are not what they want its high risk, usually making money at a loss, to be made up with software sales, they also couldnt win the console war, so they just stopped playing the game, Xboix is dead, people just dont know it yet.

crazyCoconuts218d ago

Asim is dead on... having a platform is safer than software... One way or another you make 30% of all sales on that platform.
MS is falling back to what we have all agreed is their WEAKNESS, not strength - making great games.
As the MS culture bleeds into their newly acquired studios you will see the quality get worse as we have seen time and time again.

Sharky231218d ago

You’re right hardware doesn’t make as much money as software. The problem is Game Pass kills a lot of sales. If it’s killing 300 mill a year for COD. It’s gotta be killing smaller games.

Miraak82 218d ago

I don't get why all the disagrees except this site are like 90% Sony loyalists , mention PC or xbox... blasphemy . The moment they bought ABK they basically became a 3rd party publisher whether they liked it or not , even without them they've put out more games this gen then Sony even if the games aren't they greatest . PS has mostly MS games as best sellers while Sony themselves have like 2 in the top 50 and like 5 in the top 100

StormSnooper217d ago

Hardware is where you sell the software. I didn’t think one day we would have to spell that out. Regardless, hardware is not just where you sell your own software, it’s incredibly valuable position to be in, and not even the likes of google are able to buy their way in. It’s not easy to break into, and it’s incredibly advantageous for those who can be a platform.

MS is not giving up their platform, it would be insanity, but they are selling ground in order to survive the high price tag they paid. They are taking water and fast but they are forced to because without going multiplat their purchase isn’t sustainable. Problem is, they are taking too much damage to the Xbox brand. People are fed up with them. Their fans are losing trust. It’s a tough position.

DarXyde217d ago

That's been the case for quite some time.

And yet, you move hardware with exclusive software. It just happens to be the case that Microsoft is just bad with hardware. It doesn't sell particularly well, and the one time it did, it was greatly inflated and unprofitable due to the Red Ring of Death.

badz149217d ago

thus why they need the PS consoles to succeed and thrive. more PS consoles out there = more games they can sell

lol @prioh I have never even bought Xbox in my life and has always been a PlayStation gamer. if I have an opinion then all of a sudden I belong to certain camp?

@asim I agree with your wholeheartedly. I think PlayStation was really innovative during PS3 days with new IPs etc and it was competition from MS which pushed them to limits. I think competition is great for us gamers. Look at PS5 this generation, Naughty Dog hasn't released a single game, 1 game from Santa Monica, 1 x from SuckerPunch, 1 x Demon Soul (Remake), Insomniac and Astro bot is their saving grace. <-- my information might be outdated.

StoneTitan218d ago (Edited 218d ago )

You forgot Returnal and ratchet and clank.oh and the VR horizon game.
Helldivers? Are we only counting sony studios? If not then there are actually quite a few sony published games
At least :)

VenomUK218d ago

How many doubted this day would ever come? It’s great for PlayStation that it’s getting one of the most iconic FPS games. As PS5 will likely have the largest user base for Halo Microsoft will likely prioritise it. That’s why the Halo Studios community manager wore the Halo t-shirt, to explicitly welcome the PlayStation community on board because the franchise needs them to succeed.

Software_Lover218d ago

…… No, Halo has been on PC for years.

StormSnooper217d ago

No going around it. Halo on PlayStation. Let’s all pause for a sec and let that sink in.

-Foxtrot218d ago

If that’s the case I’m surprised they didn’t just make the remake a softboot and start fresh. The story has become a bit all over the place after 343 took over so this would have been a good opportunity for them to start from scratch. Drop the Campaign Evolved subtitle, add multiplayer and go from there.

Least then knowing it will be an on going series they can plan better and set up a new trilogy better when the current one ends.

Bathyj218d ago

I disagree.
Halo CE campaign is my favourite part of the whole franchise. I'm glad if they are going to bring something over to PlayStation then it's that.

Profchaos218d ago

Halo CE is iconic I think it would be better to retcon 4/5/infinite

-Foxtrot214d ago (Edited 214d ago )

Oh maybe I wasn't clear in my original comment, that's exactly what I mean

Remake Halo 1 - 3 while adding onto it

Throw away Halo 4 - 6

Use the remakes of Halo 1 - 3 to set up in the background a new plot point that will turn into a new arc for the NEW Halo 4 - 6.

crazyCoconuts218d ago

I think they're starting from the right place. A full reboot would take too much effort for them and could easily go sideways given their track record. Sticking with the existing script means more remasters or MCC with little effort and maybe decent $ from the PS crowd.

darthv72218d ago

Only Halo game Im itching to play on PS is in VR.

StormSnooper217d ago

It would be the only way I would play it. Personally.

lukasmain218d ago

Next main Halo game will be DAY 1 on Playstation

There were some that didn't believe this despite the writing being on the wall. They only thought that 20 year old Halo games were going to PS and not new ones.

Why Xbox is making Halo: Combat Evolved for the third (fourth? fifth?) time

Again and again and again and again, do it again, do it again

Reaper22_215d ago

Its their IP and imo there's nothing wrong with that. Halo is one of the best shooters ever. Im looking forward to it. Bring it on, Microsoft.

RaidenBlack214d ago

Coz they're now remaking the first 3 as Trilogy Remake with proper stylistic continuation (big benefiter here is Halo 3, although the OG still looks artistically superb)
~ am guessing they 'might' retcon 4 and 5

z2g215d ago

Same reason they’ve made last of us 4 or 5 times….

Reaper22_215d ago

Yea , but its Microsoft so it has to be bad.

VersusDMC215d ago

Last of us - remastered - remake

Halo - aniversary remake - Collection remaster - remake again.

Gears - Ultimate remake - reload remaster

Microsoft has powered up their milking abilities with remastering remakes and second remakes....

Neonridr214d ago

The Last of Us Part 1 has been released 4 times (2 pack on PS5)

VersusDMC214d ago

@neorider

If we're counting that 2 pack then add the halo triple pack and origins bundle to the number of halo 1 releases.

Tacoboto215d ago

That's quite an unfair headline.

It received a PC Port, a decade-later Anniversary with a new graphical shell, which then got packed into MCC. This Campaign Evolved is only the first take at a Remake...

JEECE215d ago

Overwrought whining about remasters/remakes has became far more annoying than the remakes themselves. If you are so sick of a lack of originality, come up with original commentary on the games industry, instead of just retreading the exact same criticism people have been making for the last five years.

CrimsonWing69214d ago

I remember a time when we’d get nothing but sequels.
