You could see Microsoft doing a stupid move like releasing a new console 2 years earlier than expected as some vain attempt win back market share, The only problem is people are done with Xbox period. Literally no point in them releasing new hardware, in fact It would be a slap in the face to release hardware that they know is going to fail on the back of gouging existing customers to subsidize it.

While I see your sentiment, I do think having another premium option for a console other than PlayStation is just a consumer necessity.

What I don't want to see is the next generation being dragged down by something like the "Low-End" spec like S. Developers almost as a whole simply hated developing for S. Sure it made the optimization aspect of the job more sensible.

Thankfully, the technology curve is kind of flattening there. So a cheaper console option in the future will not be as dramatically kneecapped as this generation was.

If the other premium option wasn’t from MS I’d agree. But Xbox has only hurt the industry in the long run and I’ll be glad when it’s gone.

There is a market for it, but I think valve would be a better company to do it. MS needs to stick to what their name implies. Software.

They're not close to being ready with another console - all they have right now is an announced partnership with AMD. Sony is targeting 2027 so 2 years early would be right now. Plus Phil has already stated he doesn't see an advantage to pushing out a console with an incremental amount of power right now. This stock situation has nothing to do with future consoles... Maybe more to do with the lack of them though

They should invest the money for the new hardware in retaining talents and building new IPS from the groundUp. They are now multiplatform anyways, no reason to have a dedicated hardware. Their hardware will be built and sold by third party anyways.

So hold up its okay for sony to release a not needed mid gen replacement but when Microsoft decides 2 years alter to launch a new console you are upset.

Reaper22_94d ago

Typical fanboy stuff. They are so blinded by their own double standards. Ps5 pro was definitely not needed and imo not impressive at all.

Uhhh.. its over. Microsoft is making moves and we gotta just take it for what it is.

No, we don't. We can respond with our dollars. Will it change their mind on hardware? Probably not, but this is actually very problematic.

My suspicion is they plan to discontinue Xbox hardware *for this generation* (i.e., they will not be expanding the market) and will focus on releasing games for each platform and work on next gen hardware. Xbox games from here will likely just be available digitally. It's an unprecedented move, but a way to maximize profit; the cost of producing Xbox consoles in this era of outrageous tariffs probably isn't worth it for them. We already see that they're trying very hard to squeeze money out of everyone with the price hikes.

I don't fully understand their play here, but I say we shouldn't reward this, nor accept it as the way things are now.

They have lost touch with their customers base, they were never in this business "for the players" ....
