$30 a month. You better hurry and play and finish a new game every month to justify your subscription. Time is ticking. If you don't hurry up, you won't get your moneys worth this month. $30 is quite a lot. As soon as you get home from work, go go go, you need to rack up the gaming hours to justify the monthly cost. /s

GamePass, with these extra game additions does not justify the extra $10 a month in my opinion. I have never subbed to gamepass, but the quality seems to be going down not up. The more the price raises, the worse option GamePass is for the average gamer. Hell, even the majority of hardcore gamers are choosing NOT to sub to GamePass. Only a minority sub to GamePass and I have a feeling sub numbers are not going to grow anymore. But goddammit, MS will milk the ones who do sub to it, as much as possible

VenomUK107d ago (Edited 107d ago )

Holy crap. I almost think Microsoft wants to kill off Game Pass. It’s done with its subscribers who lose it money by playing its double-A games for free. It knows other console platform owners will spend money on games, but Xbox games have suffered a collapse in sales. What with this and the recent Xbox Series S & X price increases these are absolutely a deliberate tactical move. If Microsoft can migrate all Xbox Series owners to PlayStation or Nintendo then it can stop losing money on hardware sales and Game Pass and convert them into people willing to buy its Xbox Game Studios titles. This really is getting close to the final curtain.

lukasmain107d ago (Edited 107d ago )

"I almost think Microsoft wants to kill off Game Pass"

Man the same thought popped into my head. They upped the console prices to ridiculous amounts and now Game Pass Ultimate 50% increase?

Just because there have added more games in there, doesn't mean people suddenly have more time to devote to gaming. $30 is just a bridge too far for the majority of gamers.

Next Gen going to be very interesting to see what happens

darthv72107d ago

My renewal is coming up in November... I was paying $60 every 3mo which will now be $90. I can't justify that anymore. They don't offer those who want to pay for an entire year a discount. At least Sony and Nintendo do, and MS did... but not no more.

Lightning77107d ago

There it is, only a matter of when. The whole point of gamepass was to have a low entry a fee a month for games. Now it's half a game for a month. They even said it includes Ubisoft+ now which is a joke because they release like what, 1 game a year? With that said canceling Perfect Dark, ever wilds, is even worse by the this price hike. As a consumer I expect game releases at top quality consistently every year but we know MS has always struggled to do that so this price really not worth it.

Nope, MS has gone too far this time.

fr0sty107d ago

Oh look, it's that thing we've been saying was going to happen for years, happening right after all those other things we said would happen for years.

Outside_ofthe_Box107d ago

This price hike is confusing to me because I was told it was sustainable in it's state prior to the hike?

What a time to be alive.....

Christopher107d ago

It's $30 a month because there will be more games, but people don't suddenly come up with more time so all they're seeing is paying more to play for the same amount of time.

babadivad107d ago

Yeah, they haven't figured out that whole "time" thing yet.

MrNinosan107d ago

Still half the amount of games compared to PS+ Premium but now at double the pricetag

Baliw106d ago

More games that you will never own...

Personally, I think it’s still worth it for gamers who can justify the cost and actually put in the hours. The value is there — a lot of new Xbox games are available day one, and if you buy just two games like The Outer Worlds 2 at $80 each, you’ve already matched the yearly cost.

For me though, I won’t be renewing. I only play 2–3 hours a week, and I can’t justify paying that much. Gaming overall has simply become too expensive. Budgets for AAA games keep skyrocketing, and publishers refuse to rein them in. That’s why we’re stuck with $80 launches, day-one DLC, and microtransactions on top.

Honestly, I don’t remember the last time I bought a game day one at full price — it’s been at least five years. Waiting pays off: within 12–18 months you can usually get the “Ultimate Edition” with all the DLC, patches, and updates for $20–25. By then, the game is more polished and actually ready to play. Borderlands 4 just launched at $79 and already needs patches, but in a year or so it’ll be $20 with everything included.

The truth is, I can’t think of the last AAA release that launched truly finished. Every blockbuster requires months of post-launch patches. And because gamers keep paying full price on day one instead of speaking with their wallets, companies just keep pushing the limits further.

MrNinosan107d ago

How does 2 games as $80 (which already is a very high and not common price tag), equal $360 which is the yearly cost for GPU? 😏

neutralgamer1992106d ago

i meant to say if someone buys 2 games at full price they have spent half of what it would cost for a year of GPU. I just don't think as of now GP is a $30 service. Shocking thing is MS knows even at $30 GPU can't be sustained. But now they are at a closer point of being profitable

Aloymetal107d ago

This is all by design, the end is near and even the trillions from momma Windows is not enough to save the most irrelevant gaming platform in the world. They're doing a slowly, gradual disappearance, withdrawal from the traditional gaming space because their ego is so big to tell the public and their fanbase that there's no more gimmicks left, no more tricks up their sleeves and they need to shut it all down.

106d ago
1Victor106d ago

@rbb=you know who: “Xbox has been shutting down for 20 years according to Sony fanboys”
Hey buddy how’s the family, I see they visited you today that you took one of their phone to post that.
Anyway everyone knew that all those billions paid for developers and a publisher had to be repaid no matter what THE INVESTORS DEMANDED IT now it’s time to pay the piper literally 🤣

Kyizen107d ago

Xbox has a great year of releases in 2025, but it took me 2 months to be P3R, 1 month to beat Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, didn't finish Indy or Avowed. I could of bought both P3R and Expedition 33 for around $60 now and did new games plus or taken my time. 30 a month adds up fast...

badz149106d ago (Edited 106d ago )

MS only sees people of YT and Twitch having endless time to game but forgot the masses don't have much time gaming

jznrpg107d ago

I know I said and Jim sure others said it long time ago. Gamepass needs to at least be 30$ a month to make up for selling full priced games. And here it is

FinalFantasyFanatic106d ago

A lot of us have been predicting this would eventually happen anyway, the cheaper prices weren't sustainable.

1Victor106d ago

@jznrpg: “ I know I said and Jim sure others said it long time ago. Gamepass needs to at least be 30$ a month to make up for selling full priced games. And here it is”
.
I think it’s should be more after the billions spent on acquisitions if that is thrown into account it will go as high as $50 🤷🏿

S2Killinit106d ago

Holy shit! Gamepass turned into the wolf in sheep's clothing real fast! Trojan horse?

Don’t say I didn’t warn you…

FinalFantasyFanatic106d ago

Between work and responsibilities, I'm very lucky if I finish 2 games a month, I strongly doubt I could manage 3 unless they were all short games. It's going up to $35 dollars a month in Australia, at that point I could get multiple great indie/small games on sale from Steam or pay for one fantastic one (I'm eyeing off the Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster for that price atm).

Yeah, this really isn't the greatest deal in gaming anymore, and I long predicted the prices would have to keep increasing, especially if they wanted to keep adding newer games.

giovonni106d ago

Man, after reading what you wrote. It makes it sound like MS is forcing me to stay with Ultimate… like it’s 30 dollars or nothing, like there isn’t a 9.99 a month, or a 14.99 a month options. Man, shame on MS for only having one tier and forcing me to pay 30.00 a month. I mean really, did you read the article before you commented? Treat that question as rhetorical.

The biggest price increases are coming from the richest company in the world... Thats $360 a year. I think their goal is to get it up to $50 a month ($500 a year) So they can tell us about value of gaing on their $800 standard consoles and $1000 handhelds. They are coming for every dime you got. Its pay to play baby.

GamerRN107d ago

I think their goal is to kill off Gamepass AND Xbox and go fill third party

Old McGroin106d ago

$50 a month is $600 a year.

What about adverts? Have you seen a single one? Not here in London. Just Playstation dominating. Ghost of Yotei has it awesome advert displayed. I doubt Microsoft can masters Sony's marketing..

I highly doubt you are British.

Neonridr107d ago

so you went from zero for sale to no advertising?

quite the flip there. I'm impressed.

The Wood107d ago

the thing is they have stopped selling sx's in many stores. The hardware is done out here. Why stock something that doesn't sell well enough for it to be worth it.

ocelot07107d ago

So @16baccy and @16baccccy is it? I think someone is being very obscure and forgetting what accounts they are on lol.

BlazedKong107d ago

thats the point to gamepass, you dont need a console.

DivineHand125107d ago (Edited 107d ago )

A 50% increase to ultimate. My word.

They have revamped the service to add more value by promising 75 day one games per year, fortnite battle pass and 1000 vbucks per month, few other benefits for the popular live service games, increased Microsoft rewards for playing games, and 1440p streaming quality for cloud gaming.

I am not sure how I feel about this, you would basically have to be the hardcore of the hardest core gamer to have enough time to play those day one games per month in addition to the games you may end up buying. That tier is not for me.

thesoftware730107d ago

You forgot Ubisoft+ Classics...it's like 45-50 games added with that service, and they get changed out periodically.

Profchaos107d ago

Who really actually wants Ubisoft classic Ubisoft games don't hold their value you can but the entire back cat for Ubisoft with a 20 and have change for lunch

MrNinosan107d ago

No, Ubisoft+ Classics (which we had with PS+ for a long time), doesn't change out periodically.
The games on their ain't worth the extra 10USD a month either.

OldDuffer106d ago

Those games can be bought for a few quid if anyone wanted them. That's to actually own them, not to rent them.
There's no added value in this at all.

Xbox Launches New $1 Game Pass Ultimate Offer For The Holidays

Fraser Gilbert writes, "Perfect if you're not a subscriber already. It's no secret that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is getting more and more expensive as the years roll on, but today we've seen the return of the $1 offer that's proved so popular in the past — an entire month of access for less than a coffee"

It's good they still have this deal going on at times. You have to admit $1.00 deals is a great way to get people in the door. Even though it never worked as well as they'd hoped in the past. Clearly. But if people are interested, this is still a great way to try it out and realize that Gamepass is simply not worth $30 a month.

36d ago Replies(1)
Neonridr36d ago

depends on how much you game I guess. You could get someone to subscribe to Netflix for a dollar and then realize it's not worth $20 per month if you don't actually sit and watch stuff.

TheColbertinator34d ago

Game Pass is so good they should charge us $50 a month

S2Killinit34d ago

I hope this is sarcasm. Lol

DivineHand12535d ago

It is worth it depending on the type of gamer you are. If you are very young with tons of free time, enjoy single player games but see them as one and done experiences, then Game Pass Ultimate would be valuable to you because you are basically getting games from not only Xbox, but from EA and Ubisoft as well. If you are new and have no library, you may see some value in the service.

For people like myself, though, who are a bit older with limited time to play games, Ultimate is not worth it since I am lucky to play one game to its completion per month. For me, it is better to buy the games upfront unless the service has a few I want to try before I buy.

NotoriousWhiz35d ago

If you are very young with tons of free time, you're probably also broke and can't afford $360 per year on a gaming subscription.

PapaBop34d ago

Didn't even work for me, shown the £1 bit on the link provided then they went and tried to charge me full price, thankfully my bank flagged it and asked me to authorise the transaction which shown them trying to take the full £22.99

lukasmain34d ago

Yeah I'm pretty sure that if you've ever subscribed to GamePass in the past, then this deal won't work for you. It's for brand new subscribers. 95% sure

blacktiger35d ago

I'll take it but i'll never pay monthly subscription, I already got bills!

Leemundo35d ago

Yeah, that’s great, but what about the loyal subscribers? We get the price hike and no offer. They also need to focus on retention. You can’t even use reward points anymore to convert to GamePass.

ocelot0735d ago

Sweet, I'll be getting that if I can and quickly going through latest COD campaign and then letting it laps.
