I've always wondered whatever happened to the bits after last gen. Atari Jaguar was 64bits, but boy was it crap.

I am a new owner of a PS3, and have owned the 360 since last febuary. I love my 360, and tho I read all the PS3 bashing, I never really engaged in it. I am a gamer first and foremost. I own 16 360 games, including gears and recently crackdown, and I love them all. Gears being the poster boy game for 360 is incredible,that much cannot be denied, however to say that it is miles better then Resistance is going to far. To say the PS3 is the next dreamcast is really premature. If anyone says that who has played all the way through Resistance, and has seen the complexity of the backgrounds, not to mention the physics, and total lack of any frame rate drop, is just in denial, or has a severe case of fanboyism. We should be happy that there are two systems, that they compete, and we win as gamers because the two companies continue to both push the envelope in terms of immersion and experience. Sony does deserve criticism for making bold false claims, again prematurely, and not being able to deliver on their promises out the gate. The trojan horse strategy with blue ray is not starting to pay off, with blue ray releasing more movies in just the month of febuary then hd-dvd for the next six months. I bought the hd-dvd add on for my 360, and really just bought the PS3 to get blue ray. I have a mitsubishi WD65831 that has been ISF calibrated by Jeff Meier, and I am definitely a picture wh0re. Just for the hell of it, I picked up Resistance, just to see for myself how gaming would be, and after playing that game and seeing just a fraction of what can be achieved on the PS3, I am excited. The next three years is going to be great for gamers, We have to systems that both have incredible experiences, that are gonna put us at a level of immersion that has not been even glimpsed yet. We are seeing the graphics and sound leap happening now, just imagine when the character development, art, and story telling catch up.

I don't know whether anyone cares about this or if it matters any more,but just to put the record straight.In order for a machine to be truly a 32, 64, 128 bit system, its not just the CPU that has to be capable of acting internally on that number of bits simultaneously. The external data bus, also has to be the same number of bits wide. Just having a cpu that, internally can manipulate 128 bits at a time, is not the same as a true 128 bit system where the CPU can operate on data 128 bits at a time and then put that 128 bits of data on to a data bus in one go,because that is also 128 bits wide.This is not the usual thing with games consoles. Go ask what the EXTERNAL data bus width is,you may be suprised.And thats just for starters.To my knowledge no console has ever been a true 32, 64, or 128 bit system as yet,they are just quoting the CPU operation, not the system as a whole.

Remember those they were a lot of fun and they looked like crap compared to today's standards but they were still FUN... Bit's are not everything remember that... The new trend of making a console into a pc is not entirely true either.. A pc is about Work first and foremost.. You have tools to use on your PC... Msoft Office,Powerpoint,Word.... Saying a Gaming Machine is turning into a PC is absurd.. How is A gaming machine turning into a PC anyway?? By having streamlined Downloadable Movies??? Being able to stream music and Movies* to your 360 (Dont know about ps3 on this .. and 360 only wmv files unless you have a Media Center pc) Then there is the Wii's Webbrowser... I cant really say if it is a curse or a Blessing... I would rather surf the web with a KEYBRD+Mouse then with a Nunchuck... So until and hopefully never I see MSWORD or PwrPoint on a gaming console they wont be a PC... Like the man said above me Wait till everything meshes up together then we will see some games that blow our minds and we forget our life and just live for the second.

I just want to point out that the 360 has 3 cores and the ps3 has 1(the PPE). Spus are not cores. Saying that the ps3 has 8 is a bit misleading.

First you change their title to spin your fanboy hate.....title of the article is actually just "Sales of Xbox 360 in India: The Real Story". I like how you add in the 839 in the title as though that is the actual number. I am sure it is still a low number but given they only surveyed 123 stores out of 500+ I am guessing the number is significantly higher...hence their disclaimer at the end of the article stating that their sales figures are not accurate and should not be taken as such.

Still got my Dreamcast, that thing dominated when it came out. Much better than the PS2, graphics and games were wayyyyy better. Only reason Dreamcast took such a nosedive was because nobody except hardcore gamers knew it even existed. Everyone was too hyped out about PS2 when Dreamcast was in all reality the far better system. Nothing against Sony but i just think when it was between actual good games Dreamcast really was the true winner. Shouldve kept that thing going strong Sega! Dreamcast 2 man, comon.

Firstly with reference to your numbers(powers of 2) Yes in an purely 'educational way' it may be used to represent the available values of binary zeros and ones and therefore the available combinations , but that really doesn't translate to how a CPU is used or programmed. And your quote actually proves my point about a real 64 bit systems as opposed to a quoted 64 bit. You say 64 bit is better, because it can address more memory. Yes in theory,it can,potentially larger address range, but only if the ADDRESS BUS is also 64 bits wide and that is rarely, if ever the case.otherwise some kind of bank switching of memory must be performed.Powers of two are just a representation of possible combinations and don't really tell you anything.

I find it so convenient how the article is titled "The [PS3] has the same amount of bits as the Dreamcast" while it is stated, as if in small lettering in the last paragraph, that both the Xbox, and the Wii also share the same amount. Yes, I'm greatly disappointed by many things I'm hearing the past few days about the PS3, which I already pre-ordered, but articles like this really go beyond any kind of sense or reason. In fact, I find them a bit desperate for attention.
