Ghost of Yōtei review - simple pleasures and missed opportunities | EuroGamer

Sucker Punch's sequel offers more great swordplay and heartfelt storytelling, but would be better served as a linear action game, freed of its poor sidequests and dated open world.

A 6? I haven't played it yet, but this looks like an 8 or 9 to me. And, their criticism didn't make no sense.

ravens52113d ago

You know there has to be the outliers. This game is gonna be just as good as the 1st, cant wait.

Gamersunite880113d ago

I know. Oh this game looks awesome. The gameplay looks so fluid and deep. I just can't wait.

Jin_Sakai113d ago

“This game is gonna be just as good as the 1st, cant wait.“

Probably even better since It’s scoring higher than the first game.

Ghost of Yōtei - 87
Ghost of Tsushima - 83

SimpleDad113d ago

It was 8 or a 9... five years ago.

GhostScholar112d ago

It “looks” like an 8 or 9…….maybe play it before you critique it. The first game is better in every way.

EternalCynic112d ago

"I haven't played it but this opinion from someone who did is wrong because I'm hyped for the game."

Interesting review and very in-depth. While I imagine if you love their previous game then this will be up your alley. I can understand the criticism that he lays on this game. It shares a lot of the same mechanics as their previous title. Much like Ubisoft and Assassin Creed games share a lot of the same mechanics. But all that said, I expect this to be a fun romp regardless of the hand holding.

mkis007113d ago

I couldn't get into shadows. I liked what I played, but it didn't hook me because of the enemy health bars. The combat is what sells this game to me. The style is beautiful too. It's funny because the two games have a lot in common but they play completely different.

What is it with eurogamer and giving 60% to highly rated PS exclusives 😂

robtion113d ago

They are owned by IGN now. I will let you draw your own conclusions.

ApocalypseShadow112d ago (Edited 112d ago )

Euro gamer doesn't like the same gameplay even if it's a sequel to a game. They are like edge magazine which I hate also. They will give lower scores to games if they are doing something another game already did. If you're first, they will give you a high score for a good game. If you make a similar game, they will lower your score. Horizon Zero Dawn faced the same thing years ago
https://www.eurogamer.net/h...

They called the game generic. Their words....

**This is a genre piece that's a little too generic: Horizon Zero Dawn is too liberal with what it borrows, and often too literal to boot. The result ends up feeling like an imitation of something you'll have played countless times before, and often in finer form.**

But, they will give Nintendo a pass all the time. Showing their bias consistently. Even if their games retread again and again in gameplay. They will get a pass.

Lightning77112d ago

They're no longer owned by IGN. They bought themselves out from them like a month or so ago.

Christopher112d ago

@Lightning77: That's only DigitalFoundry. Eurogamer is still owned by the same company that owns IGN.

MrNinosan113d ago

Why put a journalist who didn't like the first one, also on the second one? Of course it'll get bad review. If someone asks me to review Silksong, I'd review it badly because I didn't like the first one, but I wouldn't take that job to review it in the first case.

Rebel_Scum112d ago

Sometimes it is better to hear from people who are more critical of a product to review it rather than people who are gonna like it no matter what.

Christopher112d ago

There's a difference between being critical of a product and not liking a product.

northpaws112d ago

It is like asking people who don't like raw food to review sashimi/sushi.

lukasmain112d ago

and yet they always get Nintendo fanboys to review Nintendo games. Fanboys that have Nitnedo colored glasses on no matter what the game is like

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty8h ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan11h ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher8h ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty8h ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies122h ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

Kotick Made $155 million from MS in the buyout, the little b*tch needs to stop whining. Thanks to this Microslop deal and massive industry consolidation thousands upon thousands of devs and other workers lost their livelihoods. This greedy piggie pervert needs shut up and f-off.

Good! .....and no more awfully boring simulators as well please!

galgor1d 1h ago

You didn't see the group of simulator games that just launched then, eh?

Eonjay1d 7h ago

Next story will be about how Sony is hurting gamers by blocking trash games.

lodossrage22h ago

....don't give them ideas.....

gold_drake1d 7h ago

dude who made those games definitely made bank with them tho.

im glad they're gone tho

jznrpg1d 5h ago

I hate those trophy whore games so good.

DivineHand1251d 5h ago

Too bad for the trophy hunters, but this action is necessary.

The existence of these games for the sole purpose of helping people pad their trophy list cheapens the experience.

It also clutters the store with garbage games.

jambola20h ago

I wouldn't even care if you could just filter them
but I like sorting by newest to oldest to see new games and this really just ruins it
