While I see that his background comes from a developer culture that was so hell bent on Live Services, he was so wrong on this. And just gaslit people constantly.

This is at its core, game preservation. Something every developer should CHEER for, for your creations should outlast you. And he ended up being such a "Maximizing Profits" bootlicker. Sad to watch.

Regardless thie has all the hallmarks of simething thqt is going to be a great example of the law of unintended consequences. People will get their wish, but ut wont be what they actually wanted I fear.

Consequence: gamers will be able to continue playing games that developers abandoned?

I mean, what is the consequence when you go from "lose all access to a game" to "don't lose access to a game"?

Because those games will split player bases if left to keep functioning. They want players on newer platforms to make more money. They don't want to have to make new content for old games to satisfy a small margin of people. The answer will always be money and it's sad.

@ManMarmalade; You mean devs don’t want you to just keep playing the superior older games in a series and enjoy yourself with those, when they have just released a sequel or reboot which is objectively worse than what the fans had before. So, if you want to play a basketball game, or an open world racing game, or a good FIFA/PES game, or a good MP shooter, or a good skateboarding game, WHATEVER, they want you to pick up their latest releases, full price obviously, instead of you just cherry-picking the best games from past releases for a few bucks each, all content included, and having a blast with those …

End of the day of you pay money for a product it shouldn't be able to be taken away that's what I hope we see

If live service games end up being a sacrificial lamb it's worth it they don't need to be live services most of the time
