IF a remake actually exists, which I totally doubt at this point, I hope it's just a reskin of the original more or less. Create seamless environments with camera control, but retain absolutely everything else. I don't need a multi game project or anything, just a refresh of an already absolutely perfect game.

Kyizen140d ago

Then what is the point. A remake should keep the spirit of the original but reimagine it from the ground up. I think they are doing FF7 perfectly as the original still exists if you want to play that, I don't need turn based combat with 3rd environments as a 'remake'

Miraak82 140d ago

I sorta agree , like reimagine the game as if it didn't need to be separated across 4 discs but with a Super Mario RPG or Links Awakening style graphics as to retain that puppet like quality that Hironobu Sakaguchi aimed for. Just add alittle more gameplay/side quest/cut content/npcs to areas that you'd be able to backtrack to that you otherwise couldn't before..

andy85140d ago

They're beginning to annoy me. FFVIIIs 25th was completely ignored but theyve been hammering IXs for months and still no sign of this remake if it even still exists. It better do after all this or its trash from SE

LiViNgLeGaCY140d ago

Because VIII freaking sucks, and everybody (including Square) knows this.

Knightofelemia140d ago

FF8 is one of my favorites along with FFX and FF7.

voodoopickle140d ago

I agree that 8 isn't near anyone's top FF list... but its still better than mystic quest. that said, i love the story of IX and really hope they do give it the VII remake treatment. to make even more people upset, i thought XIII was trash and at the bottom of the list.

-Foxtrot140d ago

It really doesn’t but sure keep this wild over exaggerated 90s hate campaign going.

Becuzisaid140d ago

FF8 is a great game with some very strange design choices. It doesn't even remotely come close to sucking. But I do agree with voodoo, the FF game that died truly suck is FF13.

Lolyta140d ago (Edited 140d ago )

You are making stories up just for the sake of hating ! SE prioritize social media engagements and only acknowledge something if the obnoxious fandom behind it are loud enough despite how ugly and bad the game
the sad part is the only people that hate on FF8 are the obnoxious FF9 fandom that tries to silence the voices that wants FF8 to get a remake , its insane to me that the game that need remake the most gets buried because of how selfish and annoying the fans are

andy85140d ago (Edited 140d ago )

Well it doesn't for one (90 meta so thats a nonsense comment) but it was completely ignored and theyve done many many features on 9 for months. 8 outsold 9.

jambola140d ago

lying or misnformed and pretending you're right?

ActualWhiteMan140d ago

You must be mentally challenged. VIII was by far the best of VII, VIII, and IX.

Miraak82 140d ago

FF8 has a great world esthetic, characters, music ,and best summons( GFs ) in the series but the combat, draw and junction system did not age well . Drawing magic sucks , hella tapping square when using GFs sucks, using magics sucks , level scaling sucks ( although you can break the game if you wanted..... it still sucks ) .... only redeeming quality in combat in general are limit breaks . Story is also a mixed back .... don't even start with me with the orphanage reveal .... like wtf .

Kakashi Hatake139d ago

Explain? Let me guess, you didn't like the junction system. The battle system takes a dump on 9 and that's what matters most. If 8 sucks then what does that say about 9, it's the lowest selling FF on Playstation.

Cacabunga139d ago (Edited 139d ago )

Matter of opinion.. fine you didn’t like it but the vast majority did including me. It was a step ahead especially graphically at that time. It was an almost flawless experience just 2-3 years after FF7.

I have same feeling about FFX which i absolutely hated for some reason. Vast majority liked it and that’s fine.
Just do not generalize based on subjective opinion

Miraak82 139d ago

@Kakashi Hatake Ya i don't the like combat in VIII and sales aren't really the best argument as to why VIII is better . I was 16 when it released , VIII sold better because it rode off the hype train that was VII with new flashy graphics. XI also released after the ps2 released which killed momentum for Ps1 games and X released less then year later . .

Was VIII's combat bad ?! no not really but it's not also something I look forward to if I ever played it again . At least with IX I get 4 party members, get to find new weapons and armor that I can use to learn new spells and skills, level grinding that matters , you know classic rpg stuff except for trance ... which sucked

BlaqMagiq1139d ago (Edited 139d ago )

Thankfully most people don't think like this. It's one of the best in the series AND the most underrated.

Yeah this is exactly my line of thought here.

If all of this is because of the remake then I get it, with VII's 25th anniversary it also had a new game coming out but if IX is getting all this with no game on the horizon then they've literally just ignored VIII completely.

No special 25th anniversary logo

No new merch

No special or new soundtrack (see IX's Timeless Tale release)

No new game

No special live concerts (and VIII's music is fantastic)

You're really telling me Square Enix couldn't have done something? Even if it was just one thing out of the list above.

Chard140d ago

VII was a cultural touchstone, VIII was not

oh square, u always give us what we want, dont you?

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty11h ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan14h ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher11h ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty11h ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies126h ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.
