Konami Responds to Metal Gear Solid Delta Backlash, Patch in Development

The Outerhaven writes:Konami confirms a patch for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater after players report major bugs and crashes across all platforms.

This is really a generation full of broken and unoptimized messes lol. Konami had no reason to release this game so quick and should've taken more time. UE5 also needs to be fixed.

dveio261d ago (Edited 261d ago )

It's still beyond me how they could ditch FOX Engine ... for UE5.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Frame Eater.

Chocoburger261d ago

Its been brought up a lot on reddit, but basically Fox Engine is hard to program for, and most young people these days are trained to work on Unreal Engine, so no new hires at Konami have to be trained to use a proprietary engine (which can take months).

Engines also have to be constantly updated to keep up with the times (expensive), whereas Epic is updating Unreal so other companies don't have to (though they are allowed to assist if they so chose to).

Yeah, I loved Fox Engine, and wished Konami kept investing it in, but do we really expect them to make the right choice? Of course we can't, so they serve more Unreal Engine slop.

@Choco

I really can't say if FOX Engine was hard to program for.

I mean ... the engine was even easily swappable into Pro Evolution Soccer, iirc.

"Yeah, I loved Fox Engine, and wished Konami kept investing it in, but do we really expect them to make the right choice? Of course we can't, so they serve more Unreal Engine slop."

You totally pick me up here.

I even claim Kojima and his tech team had designed FOX Engine for current-gen hardware back in the day, hence PS4 could only run it at 720p when TPP was released.

I mean what could be better for a studio to run and keep improving its own engine from graphics, sound to lighting.

FOX Engine was so damn powerful, you could clearly see the future potential it had stored.

PRIMORDUS261d ago

ID Tech 8 would most likely work with MGS Delta, I'm pretty sure Bethesda would license it out to Konami.
If that were the case the game would be performing as well as Indiana Jones did.

Cacabunga261d ago

Day one regardless.. and god they’re working on a patch

RedDeadLB260d ago

Just wanted to say that the PS4 ran TPP at 1080p@60. Which, again, is a higher native resolution than most PS5 games use these days.

It was hit with a big delay last year. Completely missed its original 2024 release date. Far too many games are being delayed just to release full of issues.

neutralgamer1992261d ago

This is common the last 10 years now. Release the game and fix it later. Sometimes games get fixed other times take the money and move to the next project. No matter the Publisher or studio I just don't buy any games day 1. Every single game gets better after launch even if it's 2 patches

So now gamers pay for early access and get a lesser quality product

dveio261d ago (Edited 261d ago )

Which always leads to that unspoken ... thing ... that studios seem to not "be able" to see how a game is running on their devkit just a month before release.

And then a week after release give a statement: "Oh wow. Didn't know it runs piss poor."

It's ... actually upsetting me big time they're fooling us so shamelessly.

neutralgamer1992261d ago

Exactly they use the gamers who buy day one as game testers and with that feedback they make patches. Why pay for QA testers when gamers are willing to pay full price snd provide feedback free of charge

Ps5conehead261d ago

It’s better then the days before the internet to download fixes

Lexreborn2260d ago

The difference from something like Death stranding 2 being carefully crafted and made to have the platforms best utilities. Vs a company that just owns an IP but no vision behind it versus cashing in on nostalgia.

Say what you want about Kojima but he hasn’t released a single game with crap performance after leaving Konami and you could argue the reason games did so well at Konami is because he was over seeing them.

Green-Smurf260d ago

crying about UE5 when you can't write code or make your own game is diabolical. Lol. Do you wake up and cry first or do wait until after you brush your teeth?

Scissorman261d ago

it explains why a lot of their marketing only highlighted the cutscenes

RhinoGamer88261d ago

Konami quality control and production on this one...failed. #headsroll

gold_drake261d ago

lol
havent they learned anything from the collection?

what's up with these broken and unoptimised games this gen.

PRIMORDUS261d ago

Backlash lol, they already had 2 strikes against them right at the start of development. One is using UE5💩, the other is having the PC version have a locked framerate at 60FPS, seriously locking the FPS on PC in 2025, yes there is a work around editing the config file but really Konami just GTFO. Exceptions are fighting games, like SF, MK, etc.

I still haven’t bought it yet, I want to, but I also have every metal gear game on ps3, vita and pc too. I honestly feel more like I can just wait

Yi-Long66d ago

Planning on buying it once it hits a nice price.

Venoxn4g66d ago

Happy for that. It's one of my favourite games since PS2 days. And the remake is great, especially when you turn on Legacy filter in settings. Hope that Konami will continue making remakes, as I want the original MGS to be remade.
