Clair Obscur director Guillaume Broche discusses sequel plans, cut content choices, pricing, and Game Pass impact on Expedition 33.

"Nothing is off the table right now."

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "If there's one genre you can almost always rely on to put out at least a few solid titles each year it's the RPG genre. Whether it's CRPGs, WRPGs, JRPGs, ARPGs, or MMORPGs, there are a lot of subgenres with rich histories and confusing abbreviations, and each of them brings something worthwhile to the table. This year in particular was a bit of an interesting one since it had no brand new entries in the really long-running, genre-defining series like Final Fantasy or SoulsBorneRing to step in and steal the show. Instead, our shortlist consists mainly of much more unique titles within the genre, but they're certainly no less deserving for that."

Well Gamepass really worked out for them. It goes to show that when you come out with a quality original title. That people will buy it through the service.
I feel a spiritual successor would be better, a lot of the mystery surrounding the world and story is what really helps gets you hooked, once you find things out at the end there’s nothing else really to reveal unless they choose a different painting or something
Then you have what ending to go off, I mean I know I have my personal pick but others might think differently. Unless they do an update in the future which unlocks a third option.
This was such an inspiring interview! I really enjoyed hearing Guiam Broch’s journey from Ubisoft to creating Expedition 33 and how following his creative vision led to such success. I also respect the team’s decision to stay small and focus on authenticity rather than chasing rapid growth. It’s refreshing to see developers staying true to their artistic values while delivering such a critically acclaimed game.
It'll be interesting to find out if the sequel also treads the gamepass path, or now that its a highly thought of commodity whether they'll go the more profitable route of sales only.
I believe the game sold very well outside the xbox ecosystem, will those millions of players that played through gp equate to sales for the sequel?
My guess is probably not.
