Gears of War: Reloaded Review Update - IGN

The original 2006 Gears of War is the classic case of "don't judge a book by its cover;" this seemingly meatheaded, bro-forward game has cemented itself as not only one of the best third-person cover shooter series with its iconic gameplay and weapons, but also one that shrugs at its stereotypes to both embrace them (when was the last time you heard someone called a dickwad?) and defy them with great storytelling and fantastic voice acting. Ten years after its first makeover, it's gotten another with Gears of War: Reloaded. Unlike some games that get a premature remaster treatment a few years after their release, this one looks and feels like a noticeable improvement.

They actually put the game on disc which is nice. I played it many years ago so I won’t pay 40$ for it but I’ll grab it used someday to add to the collection.

Seriously...what does the XBOX internal production team do there?! The Senior and Line Producers for this port should have resolved several limitations. When my brother worked there, he and the producers could be fired for one bad or mediocre release. The Production team under Phil and Matt have gotten fat and lazy... #failup

Content is content as far as they are concerned as long as you can put a game in game pass people will play it so the games honestly have had a clear degradation since game pass was introduced.

There is absolutely no more epic games in the vein of halo 2/3 which were moments the industry stopped to play them it was like Nintendo releasing a new Zelda or Mario mainline game.

Some of my favourite gaming moments were surrounding the launch of halo 2 even as someone who at the time had a PS2 and GTA SA had just come out I'd walk to a friends house to play halo 2 and we ran the campaign in co op over many nights

Felt very weird seeing the white PS5 banner on the box, and from what I’ve played so far it’s pretty much as I remember but less brown and muddy visually which can’t be bad. Mainly depressed that I’m so old that I bought the original in 2006 aged 21, the person whole sold it to me earlier told me they were born in 2007 and just turned 18.

Surprised how little fanfare the release has had though, feels like Gears has really fallen off from being a top tier franchise. Seems like the game was stealth released, no press, no ads, reviews only after release. Haven’t even seen the Mad World ad from back in 2006 getting shared around. It’s weird that such an important franchise (at least up until the mid 2010s) is being received almost as an afterthought.

Also noticed they changed the colour palette it's not worse but it's not better just different.

I do understand the lack of fanfare we've probably all played this game before after all it's fast approaching two decades old at this point

I get not promoting it like a new game, but feel that a Sony PC release or Nintendo remasters get more of a push. Feel I saw more publicity and preview for Tony Hawk 3&4 remaster recently than I did Gears.

With no reviews or previews and no real press, it really made me consider not buying it thinking the developers didn’t have much faith in what they’d done and it was gonna be a mess (it’s not btw, was just my fear).

Gaming Bolt reported that there would be zero load times/screens for PS5. :)

Gears of War Reloaded Review - A Brutal PS5 Time Capsule

This Gears of War Reloaded review for PS5 looks at a sharp 4K remaster that keeps the classic cover-shooting intact but also its dated design. Is this £39.99 revival worth a return to Sera for PlayStation players?

"A return to sera" would suggest ps players have been there before

I’m a “PS player” and I played the first 3 Gears games.

No it’s not worth it, that’s why I will wait to see if it arrives on Plus in a few years. I mean I waited over twenty years already, a little longer won’t hurt.

jznrpg24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

If the game isn’t on disc I’ll pass 100% until it’s on PS plus. If it is on disc I’ll wait until it’s under 20$. It was fun back in the day but I don’t see it holding up very well after all of these years even with remake.
