Sessler's Soapbox: More DLC Please

Gamers all love getting something a little extra. Whether it's an extra piece of pie, an extra ride on the bumper cars, or that extra toe that helps you scratch your foot -- that little bit more is always appreciated.

Such is the topic of this week's Soapbox. The recent downloadable content that was released for Fallout 3 and Fable II showed Adam how much a prompt schedule of doling out the content can enhance his enjoyment of the game. Adam also thinks that if more games promised extended play with downloadable content within 4 months of the release of the game, some people might be more convinced that it's worth the purchase, and the game's sales will see a reasonable boost.

Do you agree with Adam that such quick roll outs of DLC entices you to buy the game? Or do you think it's just a publisher trying to squeeze every dollar they can out of a game by making you pay for parts that they removed before it was released?

He belongs in a circus. He adheres to every basement-lurking "gamer" stereotype in the book. Awkward - check. Spastic - check. Inarticulate - check. Hunchbacked - check. Generally creepy (like Pee Wee Herman after the XXX incident) - check.

"Socially retarded" is being too kind, far as I'm concerned.

I really wish that we had better gaming journalists. And I'm not talking about appearances or anything superficial.

Just NORMAL PEOPLE.

That don't scare children and animals.

That would be refreshing.

P.S. To the "disagree". So Adam seems perfectly balanced and normal to you? He represents the embodiment of you and your hobby in every way? He states his opinion in the clearest, most concise way possible? If that's the case, I'm not going to add insult to injury. Enjoy the wisdom of your God Sessler.

you forgot to mention he's a bad dresser. LOL... have a bubble ;)

PirateThom6326d ago

I remember the good old days when you bought a game and it was complete.

legendkilla6326d ago

i remember those days too! the only DLC i've got is for Warhawk and Burnout Paradise.. i was tempted to get COD 4 map but didnt

JoySticksFTW6326d ago

Yeah, in those days you had unlockables, cool codes, and hidden quests/areas free in each game that we would get charged for today.

No more trying to pack as much content as they can into games to make them stand out from the crowd and worthy of purchase... and you have someone like Sessler supporting it

I don't understand it anymore

@1 (reply button seems to have malfunctioned)

I really don't understand why normal is considered the best thing since... whatever the last best thing was.

The very word "normal" means average, mediocre, bland... a clone if you will. No person is by nature normal, it's just an insane idea people subscribe to. For normal to have any redeeming quality, the norms would have to be at least somewhat admirable, which I doubt anyone with any sincerity can claim is the case.

If you want normal journalists, watch "real" news (CNN/Fox/pretty much any official news), those are the norms you speak so highly of.

On topic, I don't really agree that this whole DLC trend is a good thing. I theory it's nice, but in practice it's being exploited way too much. I would take a proper patch that fixes real game issues over a couple of hours of overpriced "new" (mostly recycled) content any day.

Chris3996326d ago (Edited 6326d ago )

And you're reading too much into what I said. By "normal", I do not necessarily mean some bland, carbon-copy figure that spouts news. I do not enjoy the vast majority of today's news personalities. They lack just that, personality.

Ideally, I like to watch someone that is engaging, presentable and articulate. Wherever else on the spectrum their eccentricities and irregularities lay is fine with me. We are all individual and unique and that is part of what being human is all about.

That said, Adam Sessler is not fit for t.v.. I'm sure that he might be a thoughtful, lovely person. However, that does not change the fact on television he comes across as utterly awkward and diminishes the impetus and value of the information that he is handling, simply by virtue of his being so weird (which is a wonderful thing, just not in this case).

Oh, and on topic: DLC should really be included with the game (in my opinion). I'm not a fan of paying for a more "complete" experience. And the cost of that "complete" experience seems to get a little higher and higher each year.

Scruffy_K6326d ago

More DLC on PS3 please. All of these things are great, if you own a 360. For the rest of us, well, we're f*cked. I'm not blaming Microsoft for buying up all of this stuff, it's smart, but it's a kick in the balls to everyone else (even though it's a smart kick in the balls, it still sucks).

Cajun Chicken6326d ago

Only if its an expansion, and NOT if it was supposed to be in the game in the first place and could easily fit on the disc. Unless we're talking about patches.

caffman6326d ago

the disc space problem should nearly never be an issue

Would be nice if they had New Vegas ready as well, especially because of the show.

Hopefully this doesn't have the same performance issues as Oblivion Remastered.

cloganart136d ago

I haven't seen anything on these performance issues? What's been going on?

walken7136d ago

Probably the Unreal Engine issues, I skipped it for that reason.

Snookies12137d ago (Edited 137d ago )

Throw in all the DLC as well, like Oblivion and I'll definitely bite. I recall having one trophy left to unlock on the PS3 version with 100+ hours in my save. When my save file got corrupted, lol. Very sad day.

To be fair though, Bethesda was trash at Playstation ports anyway.

Michiel1989136d ago

all devs sucked at porting to ps3 for the first like 3 years because no one had experience with the cell architecture. Even 1st party took a long while to get proficient with it, the difference between uncharted 1 and 3 is massive for example.

Extermin8or3_136d ago

Oh oh oh I can do this too. GTA 7 will be made at some point in the future. Fallout 5 will enter development in the future too

jznrpg136d ago

Everyone there should know most gamers want New Vegas and Morrowind more than anything.

Christopher136d ago

Which is why we won't get them. Gotta keep floating "support this one and it might happen".

BlaqMagiq1136d ago

Can't wait. Won't have to go back to my PS3 to play this when it comes out.
