PETA Writes Letter to Nintendo, Requesting the Cow’s Nose Ring be Removed

PETA has sent an official letter to Nintendo requesting that the company remove the nose ring from the Cow racer's nose in Mario Kart World, allowing it to "race freely."

How dare Nintendo give that poor digital cow a nose ring!

lukasmain153d ago (Edited 153d ago )

Nintendo should reply, "The lore is that the cow chose to wear the nose-ring herself for fashion. Do you want to take away the cow's free will? Now kindly Fk off"

FACTUAL evidence153d ago

Bro, I need you to sign here, here and here. Brilliant!

Agent75153d ago

I totally agree. The slaughter of animals and also hunting of animals is vile.

anast153d ago

Too bad PETA does next to nothing to stop it.

aaronlif10153d ago

This is a cartoon cow. PETA has literally killed thousands of real animals.

Alos88153d ago

You're right, that point you just made that is entirely unrelated to the article is correct.

IanTH153d ago (Edited 153d ago )

I truly can't decide if PETA do these kinds of things because they think if they ask about a truly stupid thing in a popular property, it'll at least get a conversation? Because if not, I just don't understand how they believe these kinds of requests are the right ones to be putting energy into.

I'm a person who's certainly for the ethical treatment of animals - and even standards for animals meant for food production to at least avoid needless suffering/cruelty. But as someone who would - theoretically - be on their side, when they choose to "champion" things like this or the cow milking game in 1-2 Switch, I just feel like they are undermining their cause & messaging.

This is a little flourish on a cow in a fantasy world where it is so different to an Earth cow as to make any attempted parallels nearly meaningless: this entity can drive vehicles and compete with other intelligent beings. If the cow didn't want a nose ring, clearly it has the mental faculties & means to remove it. Given that, it's not unfair to assume the cow decided of its own volition to wear it in the 1st place. Not that this dumb point even needs being made.

The real issue is if they focus on these effectively non-issues, then it makes them look out of touch. Unreasonable. Scattered. Efforts misplaced. It makes any other "real" concern they would want to fight for weaker by association. If I tell you there's an emergency every time I stub my toe, you're probably not going to take me seriously the next time I'm shouting emergency, but this time the building is on fire.

Stick to protesting the fires. We don't need to hear about the injustices of a toe stub. There are simply far too many other MASSIVE things going on in the world. If any attention is left to spare for animal welfare, make sure what you're bringing to the public's attention is valuable enough to warrant it. I will spare a few bucks or some free time if there's true animal suffering. But I might not be listening the next time aid is called upon; I'll be wondering if it's a stubbed toe, and if the toe actually belongs to a cartoon. Expending your energy on these "issues" is borderline disrespectful while real, human suffering is happening every single day on a scale most haven't experienced in their lifetimes.

Pick. Your. Battles.

Notellin153d ago

Man the delusions of grandeur you have for your own opinion just allows everyone to see you're a true delusional egotist.

IanTH153d ago

I wrote a comment on a video game news website. I don't know what kind of delusions of grandeur you believe I have. Fair to say I rambled on longer than necessary, but nothing in there was written with any intent of inflating my sense of self.

Because, truly - at least these days - I don't think all that highly of myself. Don't have all that much self esteem either. Apologies if my ramblings on PETAs weird choice of what to focus their attention on rubbed you the wrong way. I've only got my word here, but also feel free to peruse my comment history if you're inclined - 1000s of comments in there going back to the PS3 days to help draw a conclusion from.

Ultimately though, I don't comment to big myself up, or with intent to annoy or anger anybody. There's so much crap and friction everywhere else that I try not to be another source of it. Sorry if this was that for you. Perhaps you can let me know what was the most egregious, and I can get a better sense of your perspective in the hopes of better expanding my own.

Alos88153d ago

"I wrote a comment on a video game news website" dude you wrote a novel

Rancegamerx153d ago

Notellin, wtf are you talking about. Did you even read what he wrote? It was thought out and intelligent, maybe put in some effort if you disagree.

@Rancegamerx said: “Did you even read what he wrote? It was thought out and intelligent.”
- Well why’s he’s posting it on N4G?

I aint reading all that bollocks Jim, but the notion that we can only deal with one or two priorities at a time is completely stupid.

There are plenty of us human beings around to get everything that needs doing done, if it weren't for the political and ruling class fucking everything up for mankind.

On topic, animal welfare actually is massively important too many but PETA are really are poor at achieving their stated mission statement. Going after things like a representation of a cartoon cow in a videogame actually diminishes people's willingness to discuss animal welfare, folk just roll their eyes instead.

Go after real issues in the real world, God knows there are plenty of real animal welfare issues than need addressing.

IanTH153d ago

Never said we couldn't focus on more things at once, that would be absurd. I was trying to say that hey, if you're going to try to rally people around a cause - given we all only have so much time, energy, and focus - that you should probably focus on sliiiiightly more impactful things than asking a video game company to remove an accessory from a clearly intelligent, anthropomorphic cow.

Seems we're mostly in agreement, especially given your 3rd paragraph and last sentence, but since you didn't read all my comment I guess I can't say for sure, but think we're more in agreement than not.

LoveSpuds153d ago (Edited 153d ago )

Apologies Ian, think I was perhaps a bit abrupt on reading my post back. I think your point about focusing effort on video game cow piercings being a waste of effort is quite right 😅

I took your comment as referring to general animal welfare issues which is something close to my heart. My apologies, enjoy the rest of your weekend squire👍

Rancegamerx153d ago

If your not going to read it they why comment about it?

Popsicle153d ago

@IAN your post was well articulated and worth the read. We know that attention spans are decreasing in the digital age and there is no need to argue with those who are criticizing you for providing a well-written opinion because it was “a novel.”

Express yourself how you see fit. Good post.

Best Racing Game of 2025

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Unlike RPG and Action-Adventure, two genres that deliver multiple GotY candidates year after year, Racing is something of a feast or famine situation. Luckily, 2025 was a feast year, due primarily to Nintendo's latest hybrid console. All four games on the shortlist appeared on Switch 2; heck, three of them are exclusives. Shin'en, no stranger to Nintendo hardware, once again punched above its weight class with the slick futuristic racer Fast Fusion. Masahiro Sakurai reconfirmed his auteur status with Kirby Air Riders, an unexpectedly deep and content-rich racer with more than a little fighting game DNA in it. Nintendo EPD made a big splash at the launch of Switch 2 with Mario Kart World, which obliterated the spatial boundaries of the franchise. And Sonic Team raised the stakes with Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, thanks to an inventive travel ring mechanic."

"while Microsoft had another dismal year with the Xbox Series X|S, which only sold 24,000 units throughout 2025 ."
Got damn...💀 we are gonna need an alt in here stat.

italiangamer4d ago

24.000 units and they don't even deserve them 💩.

Aloymetal4d ago

Like who are these freakin' 24k people, for real. Ignorance is bliss.

Aloymetal4d ago

One alt??? He's making 2 and 3 at the same time to compliment one another lol.

dveio4d ago

What I personally find to be "fascinating" about every Xbox die-hard I ever spotted:

In their rhetoric, Xbox is basically king. While Playstation is utter crap.

Right?

Yet since 2013, Xbox is the only console brand that has lost ~50 million people buying it.

Aloymetal4d ago

Notice that most of them if not all, brag about how much money momma windows is making instead of how great their games are or the quantity of GOTY games xbox is releasing on a yearly basis. Apparently they're not gamers anymore and don't really care about them but as long as scum MS is making profit they're happy as f. LMAO!

Michiel19894d ago

i mean none of the ps fans cared when sony fired 8% of their workforce 2 years ago, everytime ms released a game on ps they only post how great it is that sony is making money, they didnt care when they tried to steal games with helldivers, they don't care that the customers are now paying for the concord, bungie and all their other cancelled live service games, they don't care that ND has very bad overtime/crunch practices so the ignorance is definitely not one sided.

@aloy apparently you're now a gamer if you're into the politics of the industry....right

Elda4d ago

Sony's PS5 consoles just won't stop winning.

Neonridr4d ago

I mean if not for the Switch 2 releasing in June, clearly it would have sold more. But keep on winning..

4d ago
Neonridr4d ago

@cojoni - I mean let's see if that holds when Mario & Zelda come along. This is with Nintendo releasing only a handful of first party titles and only a couple of notable 3rd party titles releasing.

At the end of the day, I own both though. I don't pledge allegiance to one gaming system. I'm a gamer, so I want to play all the games. Not just ones that only release on my PS5.

S2Killinit4d ago

Its not like PS5 doesn't release its own bangers. GTA is incoming. Interstellar (my most anticipated personally)

neutralgamer19924d ago

neo

first you said switch coming out in june and when elda proved you wrong that in last 5 months ps5 still has outsold it now you are talking about mario and zelda. it's almost a 6 year old system going again a console that just came out and is cheaper. You mentioned mario and zelda what about PS5 exclusives that will be coming in 2026 and another small game which will play/run better on PS5 and Pro and won't be coming to switch 2 GTA6

I dislike sony because they have slacked off so much this gen with their live service failures but still what PS5 has done is impressive(i don't even own a PS5 the first sony console in a while at that)

Dexterio4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

@Neonridr
Excuses and more excuses from the "faSt SeLlInG cOnsOle" fandom LMAO! Keep it up!

" I mean let's see if that holds when Mario & Zelda come along. This is with Nintendo releasing only a handful of first party titles and only a couple of notable 3rd party titles releasing."
I'd say let's see how PS5 GTA 6 Bundle would perform soon. It's easily gonna smoke Nintendo's whatever Zelda and mario game bundle they come up with. LMAO!

repsahj3d ago

@cojoni Switch 2 sales divided by 2? XD

Global sales
June 2025 - NS2 launch(5M+) PS5(916k)
July 2025 - NS2(1,594K) PS5(787k)
August 2025 - NS2(1,127K) PS5(875.8K)
September 2025 - NS2(1,079K) PS5(1,157K)
October 2025 - NS2(1,373K) PS5(1,310K)
November 2025 - NS2(1,816K) PS5(3,591K)

If you included whole month december, Switch 2 is in 15M+ range.

Chevalier3d ago

"I mean let's see if that holds when Mario & Zelda come along. This is with Nintendo releasing only a handful of first party titles and only a couple of notable 3rd party titles releasing."

Want to bet? GTA 6 bundle for Playstation will absolutely destroy in sales. There's NOTHING on Nintendo that will come close to GTA sales

Elda3d ago

You love the Switch 2 just like I like my PS5 Pro. I own a XBSX & a Switch 2 but so far PS5 has not slowed down in sales is all I'm saying. There's no need in denying that fact.

2025 in Review: Winners and Losers

VGChartz's Taneli Palola: "Before we leave 2025 completely behind us and begin taking a closer look at the horrors that 2026 surely has in store, let's once again mull over the best and worst of the last year. As is more or less tradition by now, the winners side took ages to properly fill, while there was an abundance of choice for the losers, but to keep some semblance of balance I whittled both sides down to just five. Let's take a look, shall we?"

Good read.

“Phil Spencer made some rather curious statements following the layoffs, notably stating that ”our platform, hardware, and game roadmap have never looked stronger.” So the company is simultaneously the most successful it's ever been, while also firing people by the thousands. Its gaming division is supposedly stronger than ever, yet it's effectively gutted many of the studios that brought it success in the first place.”

This is how a textbook Makavelian society works, where the top dogs become more successful in terms of flair and pomp with soaring bank accounts, only to realize the foundation of the society is rotten and relatively close to collapse. According to former border patrol agent JJ Carell., in 2025 the US was the largest consumer of human in trafficking on earth, and that slavery in America was more popular last year than it ever was, even compared to back when slavery was actually legal in the 1800s. But activist today will blab about how happy they are. But activists today will blab about how happy and proud they are that slavery is technically illegal because they fundamentally fail to grasp how a Makavelian society functions.
