Battlefield 6 Will Feature a Server Browser That's Easily Accessible; Server Locations Revealed

Battlefield 6 will feature a server browser that will be more streamlined, allowing players to access it from the main menu.

kitano1947292d ago

Wrong.

It will use the same system as BF2042 which is Portal.

For those (like me) who didnt buy 2042

Battlefield 2042’s Portal feature lets players create and join custom games using content and rules from multiple Battlefield eras (BF1942, BFBC2, BF3, BF2042), offering deep customization of gameplay, logic, and more. Instead of a traditional server browser like in Battlefield 4—where you simply filtered and browsed user-run servers—Portal uses an "experience browser" for discovering custom modes, but also allows game creators to publish their sessions for others to join.

Cons:
Less straightforward UI than a classic server browser
No persistent player-owned servers (they spin down when empty) (aka game dead in 5 years)
Some fragmentation/confusion due to multitude of custom modes
Traditional server admin features are limited compared to BF4

So no third party server support = dice will do their best to push us onto BF7 in a few years.

Great Comment , answered all my questions and more

… but Portal is a game mode. A server browser is, well, a server browser. They’re not the same thing at all. So is it lying and it does not have a server browser?

This shouldn’t be this complicated.

@KITANO1947 ALL GAMES DIE IN 5 YEARS. I'm sure whining gamers like yourself will want a BF7 before 5 years is up. The same way you wanted a BF4 within the duration of BF3. The servers will still be alive and well since BF1 and BF5 are still functional. Judging from their efforts, I'm sure the next installment after BF6 will be Bad Company.

The relentless whining for a "modern-BF" from the community, gave us the mediocre BF2042 last time and ending the premature support for BF:V, just as it was getting good/great.
BF:V is still pretty great to play (wish they covered the whole WW2 theatre roadmap ~ it was a great concept).
& What we should've got after BF:V's lifecycle's completion was a BadCompany prequel centered around Vietnam or close to that era. Would've been cool, WW1 > WW2 > Vietnam War (yea I know BF Vietnams exist)
Anyways, we are now, ending up getting a safe bet BF:4 Reboot after all this. The community just wants BF4 over n over.

>ALL GAMES DIE IN 5 YEARS

What a silly comment, a server browser was a basic feature 20 years ago and removed only because they know that community ran servers extend a games life and they do not make money if you are not constantly buying the latest game.

Perhaps you are too young to remember this quote?

John Riccitiello, then‑CEO of Electronic Arts (EA), about monetizing reloads in the Battlefield franchise. In a 2011 investor meeting, he said:

“When you are six hours into playing Battlefield and you run out of ammo in your clip and we ask you for a dollar to reload, you’re really not that price sensitive at that point in time…”

This is EA we are dealing with here, they are not your friend.

Until they add bigger maps to modes other that their garbage br, im not reinstalling that, they just blatantly misled a lot of people leading up to release. And still refuse just add bigger maps which people have asked for since the beta fk EA!

Extermin8or3_36d ago

Someone didn't read the article.

isarai_lee36d ago

Why would you assume that? Nowhere in there does it mention bigger maps, it mentions reimagined old maps, says nothing about their size

Duke1935d ago (Edited 35d ago )

TBF - the developer does say that next month they are releasing the largest map they have released in a Battlefield yet in Golmud. (4x the size of Mirak Valley)

And then in July comes Tsuru Reef (even larger) which I actually think looks really sick

REDGUM35d ago

I couldn't agree less with you actually.
EA hav3 listened to the people before releasing this B6 game.
It plays much better and more battlefield like than the past 3 installments.
Personally, it's not bigger maps this game needs. They've dropped the player count which is a great compromise imo.
Bigger maps with only 32 v 32 means more running around doing nothing.
Keep the new maps coming & aiming for old style battlefield games and it's a win win for me.

Server browser should've been in there at launch, when will devs learn this? It's a feature seemingly always neglected but then added in a future update...

AuraAbjure35d ago

I remember in BF Hardline the server browser didn’t have any dedicated DLC maps, and the entire player base fell off accordingly. When people pay good money for DLC maps, they want to be able to actually play them, and that means dedicated DLC ONLY servers must be programmed into the server browser by the devs.

EA should do what Bungie did for Halo 2 in 2005. When Bungie basically invented DLC maps for online matchmaking they were smart enough to realize it could split the community. DLC maps had DEDICATED PLAYLISTS so players who spent good money on the DLC could hop right into matches. Later, the DLC maps became free and also became a MANDATORY DOWNLOAD for everyone so that the DLC maps could be integrated into all standard playlists. This prevented the game from dying and the community from being fractured.
