You built a digital store front, but right now it feels like you've traded both for short-term efficiencies. Microsoft isn’t just code and cloud — it’s people, studios, stories.

‘Microsoft's Movies & TV service is shutting down’
-But it will NEVER shut down Xbox Gaming…

S2Killinit181d ago

One of the reasons MS couldnt compete with Somy and Nintendo is because those two have deep entertainment DNA and history.

RaiderNation181d ago

@S2Killinit

LOL@ your disagrees! As if anything you said isn't 100% the truth.

Majestic implosion in progress !!

P_Bomb182d ago

Damn, I actually used it! Rented movies once in a while.

It feels like yesterday when they came out on E3 to introduce XBone and the movie & tv division.
Did they ever released any movie as for tv I can say I saw both seasons of halo 😱.
It was a ok show but what made it mediocre and a tie for worse video game adaptation next to Mario brothers was the franchise name, if you look at it as a sci-fi channel d movie it scratches a ok 🤣

DivineHand125182d ago

This is disappointing. I did purchase a movie from there about a year ago and I tend to check it from time to time to see the new releases. I guess Amazon is one of the few places that is left that still sells or rents movies.

Lexreborn2182d ago

PlayStation Core allows you to buy movies, I also still have access to all of my movies and tv series I purchased on from the prior service they have before they made core.

Guess, I can finally cancel my Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Haven't even gamed on Xbox in ages and was only subscribed to GPU because the service offered some really good deals on movies and TV shows from time to time (purchased a Jurassic Park anthology six film collection for under seven dollars).

Now, the main question will be what will happen to peoples purchases once the service shuts down for good. Granted Xbox let's you download your movies and TV show to your hdd, what of the streamed ones? The access. Take it, licensing will be an issue?

DivineHand125182d ago

In your case, it is best to cancel as Xbox is no longer giving you enough value to keep you as a customer.

Lightning77181d ago (Edited 181d ago )

Were you keeping that same energy when Sony did this back in 2021?

pwnmaster3000181d ago

@lighting
What energy are you saying????

What he said is all facts, if a customer feels like they have no more value in a service they should leave.
What’s the issue?

Lightning77181d ago

@pwn The value is games. They still have games to choose from.

PhillyDonJawn181d ago

U subbed to gamepass for movie discounts? 🫤

OMGitzThatGuy182d ago

Never a reason to buy a digital movie when you can get deals on physicals and they always come with a digital code. Or if you want to be ethical, buy digital at a heavily discounted price and then download or pirate it and back it up to multiple sources.

Kornholic182d ago

I buy physical movies regularly. I can count on one hand the times a movie came with a downloadable digital version.

jznrpg182d ago

@Kornholic some come with digital code some don’t. I generally buy the combo versions that Ultra/Blu-ray or Blu-ray/dvd and some of those come with a digital version although I’ve never redeemed them.

MetroidFREAK21182d ago

I get my physical movies from Salvation Army. Cents on the dollar and my collection has grown substantially

DivineHand125182d ago

Just like how the law bends over backwards for copyright holders, there needs to be more done to protect legitimate customers who purchased digital content.

There should be a time frame that is made clear to the buyers upon purchasing digital content to inform the buyer of how long they have to access the purchased content.

We need more initiatives like stop killing games to give us more rights.

SonyStyled181d ago

You’ve already accepted their Terms and Agreements for ‘purchased’ digital content though. Supporting physical games, especially fully playable from the disc, is the best way you can protect your ownership rights… or backup your digital games/pirate

babadivad182d ago

BUYING digital movies is never something that made sense to me. This coming from someone who "buys" over 90% of my games digitally.

bunt-custardly182d ago

well Microsoft has said that you can still use, Your Purchased Items from the store. Now, I think, everyone advocating for more physical media I think, if you have got digital, it's very easy to make back ups of those.

babadivad179d ago

I bought an episode of the Sarah Silverman show on 360 for a buck or 2 over a decade ago. I somehow still have access to it.
