Xbox Invites Developers To AI Roundtable The Same Day It Does Mass Layoffs

Microsoft is asking for feedback at Gamescom 2025 on using AI to make development more efficient.

darthv72324d ago

Using AI to develop games in place of real live bodies... I guess the matrix is quickly approaching reality.

Michiel1989323d ago

AI can actually do a lot of non creative work for game development, as to make the development pipeline a lot easier for the actual living, breathing devs and it's being used everywhere.

PapaBop323d ago

Partially true, while it certainly will make life easier for the real developers, how many will lose their jobs as a result of this?

Michiel1989323d ago

@papabop automation also costed us jobs and thats and just like automation, AI is gonna have a significant place in our society. I don't see it going anywhere. As long as the creative parts are done by people, cause those are the parts you will notice. I don't see any gamer caring that basically all consoles and pc's now use AI.

It also says nothing here that MS is trying to have AI generated art and the headline leads me to believe they aren't.

"Studios are already experimenting with AI-generated text, art, and characters, while publishers like EA rush to incorporate the technology anywhere they can in order to hype up shareholders and maintain the illusion of being lean, nimble, and “forward thinking.” "
If they talked about one of those things, they would have been included in there. The timing is the worst it could possibly be though. They knew probably a year ahead they wanted to give this talk....

I have to question at this point:

Do MS even HAVE a PR team?

Having all of these closures, game cancellations, figure heads contradicting each other, having leaders send letters filled with PR speak and lacking any genuine appearance of emotion or remorse, all while talking about how they've never been more profitable...for it to get EVEN WORSE is an impressive feat of ineptitude.

Not only is all that followed by this headline about AI, they have the sheer GALL to ask those yet to be fired to come to a roundtable on AI? To ask them thoughts about tech MS is actively pursuing to ensure they can fire the very people they are asking input from? Chef's kiss, meme-master level commitment to the bit. Couldn't have worse optics, or be more tone def to either the public or your own employess.

I refuse to believe anyone is being paid to step on each and every possible rake they can, and instead of dodging the last in their long line of rakes, manage to instead trip over their own feet & faceplant in such a spectacular fashion that it's borderline impressive.

Tell you where they can shove their ai game trash

Games are art they are a vision and often made with passion

This is not

This is the sad reality of where so many of these big corporations and AAA gaming has come to AI is only going to get bigger and these corporations will try to get rid of as many people as possible and just try to replace them with AI not realizing the actual people bring with them genuine ideas emotions passion that AI simply cannot replicate

I am not against AI it should be used to make the experience better not to actually create the experience itself as I'm growing up I am just buying less games and playing more order games and waiting for huge sales for games because too many of these games are not worth asking price. We as gamers should support AA gaming and hope that double (AA) gaming makes a big comeback like it was in PS2 and PS3 Xbox 360 original Xbox error

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing23d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9223d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit23d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing23d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9223d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
