The Absence of Physical Discs in Death Stranding 2 or Ghost of Yotei Packs Upsets Fans

Collector’s Editions are usually the largest and most expensive packs when it comes to games, including both the essentials and a ton of exclusive goodies. So it came as a great surprise when the players realized that the Collector’s Edition for both Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei are diskless, ie, there are no physical discs inside, only a code for a digital download. Naturally, the fans are a bit upset.

So it should upset the fans. This decision, made to seemingly ALL collector's editions, is really baffling. I mean, just eat the costs of putting a game disc in there. It's not like there are millions of Collector's editions. This is one of those things that is so hard to wrap your mind around why it's happening or why Playstation lets it happen. No to mention other devs from other 3rd party games doing this too. But still. Sony should have the damned discs in there.

They are 100% making tons of profit off collector's editions of games. There's no way adding a disc into the mix is going to eat into that whatsoever. Just shows how greedy companies are getting these days. They just want to save that pocket change so they can earn .01% extra by ripping people off.

A physical copy would only be playable for owners of a PS5 with a disc drive. But a digital copy is playable on all PS5’s. That’s why they include digital copies.

This is a bulls*** excuse which is what they've been saying since the get go but it's a completely flawed argument

The majority of digital only gamers do digital because it's more convenient for them and they don't like clutter, they don't like having all these boxed games around their house when they can have everything neatly compact in their console, so why the hell would most of them give a s**t about all these physical goodies in a collectors edition? To them it's just unnecessary clutter lying around.

Also if you buy a physical collectors edition as a digital gamer you can literally go to CEX or whatever store in your home town that does trade ins and sell that disc, get as much money from it as you can and put it towards a digital copy online, it should cover most of it. However the other way round, a physical only gamer trying to trade in a digital code? Yeah that's not going to happen, it's super hard to sell a code unless you have a close friend or family member to make a deal with.

A collectors edition are things people want to collect, including the game, it's in the name so without a disc, without a steelbook to put the disc in, it makes the entire concept of collecting and collectors editions redundant.

Fact is companies like Sony and others could sell these editions on their own website, like what Rockstar did with Red Dead Redemption II where you have the collectible stuff as one item and you can bundle it in with a limited edition. If you want to get it digitally then you don't need to bundle it with anything and you can just preorder it on the digital store instead while preordering the collectible box on its own. It's not hard.

It is baffling. The one edition that should include game discs. Oh but it has a steel book??? Last gen I believe one was able to submit the code to Sony and get a disc. Which isn’t ideal as one would want to play the game that they bought and not wait for a disc, but do they at least offer that option?

Also, not that it matter much but it’s disc, not disk. If it’s a round object it’s a disc. If it’s something like a floppy, or cartridge-a disk. So ps5 physical games come with discs that get saved on an SSD-which is a disk.

I'm guilty of buying the PS5 CE of GoW Ragnarok. And while it did come with the steel, I noticed it was a double disc case. So I ended up buying a used copy of the PS4 version because it comes on two discs. And it sits nicely next to my steel of the original GoW (2018).

No disc in the C.E. is why I didn't buy Death Stranding 2 yet, I'm certainly not paying full price for a C.E. that doesn't have a damn disc! I'll get it next year during the Days of Play sale for 50 - 60% off, just like I bought the Spider-Man 2 C.E. 4 weeks ago for 50% off.

Unfortunately a lot of people don't seem to understand how to vote with their wallets, which is why we'll keep seeing more of these.

I've seen quite a lot of people who complain about the lack of a disc in the CE and many more about the 2 day early access for the digital-only special edition of Death Stranding 2, only to take the bait and fork out the money anyway.

Your complaints don't matter if you end up buying the product anyway. The moment you do that, you're quite literally telling them to give you more of the thing you're complaining about. It's frustrating to see.

It's kinda obvious why if you use your brain for like 10 seconds.

Game of the Year: #2 - Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

It takes the first game and streamlines select gameplay facets, then smartly builds on and improves features to create a more all-around experience.

The product that comes out the other side is an equally gripping and satisfying one, where top-of-the-line cutscenes tell another bonkers Hideo Kojima narrative, while the gameplay delights with complex delivery routes and vastly improved combat.

AC Shadows is in but Ghost of Yotei is not? Out of all the ninja games that came out this year AC Shadows isnt even in the top 5.

Game of the Year: #4 - Ghost of Yotei

Ghost of Tsushima ended up being one of the most beloved outings of the PS4 generation, and so topping the adventures of Jin Sakai was never going to be easy.

And while we think that opinions will likely always be divided on which Ghost title is best, Ghost of Yotei is a superb sequel that both builds on its predecessor, and delivers a slightly different take on samurai cinema.

Definitely MY game of the year.

All I have left now is to beat Takezo, but that fool is difficult. I’m learning little by little thought, I’ll soon earn the win, and the plat.

They should call it "The Sony Awards."
