Phil Spencer, hero of the XBOX 360 era got fat and lazy with $$$ paid in salary, stocks, and bonuses. His priorities shifted to protecting his job and growing his wealth. He succeeded at that magnificently. Shame he screwed the pooch on the rest. #failup

MS didn't buy up huge amounts of the industry to make it better or to better it's reputation with gamers, they've done it to extract as much value out of it as they can with already established IP's and publishers.

MS has proven growing and supporting the industry isn't what they care about.

I must agree with the sentiment expressed here that reputation has been damaged for quite some time. However, must also call out the hypocrisy among the fans. Are we not the ones who recently highlighted numerous articles about how Clair Obscur 33 demonstrated to major companies the ability to create a true AAA game with just a small team, all while offering it at a more affordable price?

If you told console gamers 20 years ago that a console manufacturer is going to pull the shit MS has pulled over the years, they would burn their consoles.

They spent the last 15 years rarely putting out games, when when they did the games are wrapped up in controversy and layoffs.
They had what? Deathloop, Indiana Jones, Forza, and Gears 5 maybe.
Also Hi-Fi Rush was a great shadow drop then Microsoft shadow laid-off the studio a month later.
The hardware is solid and has some great features but they fumbled the ecosystem; how it feels to be an Xbox player. Xbox players ended up feeling left out, left behind, and ultimately left the console.

Their reputation already in the toilet. They clearly don't give a crap (pun intended).

It’s funny to say that when of the three main consoles Xbox is the only one steadily pumping out games right now. Most of Sonys success this year has been with formerly exclusive Xbox games. That’s just a fact anyone can look at the numbers and see that. Sort of weird to dunk on Xbox and then play their games in droves I.e. forza horizon 5 and Indiana jones.

Microsoft's reputation? It's had a reputation since the Xbox 360 RRoD, Xbox One launch mash up and forgetting about games for the Xbox One Series X. You could go back to Windows XP, after that, Windows died. Even Edge is rubbish. Who would want to pay into the next Xbox for silly money.

Xbox's downslide started with the Kinect. PlayStation 3 was still playing catch-up in 2010. They could've ruled the market but they decided they wanted that "Blue Ocean" money instead. Ignored their core audience that made them who they were.

Most good things in life are ruined by greed or stupidity. I often find that the two are closely intertwined. See: Xbox One.

So this is the headline I saw earlier somewhere else saying Sony removes over a thousand games from its store. Makes sense, cut the fat, no more bloat.
