Splitgate 2 is following the same path as XDefiant, fighting an endurance battle with Call of Duty as the new CoD Killer. Will it last?

1047 Games writes: "Steam Charts don't measure fun.
They show one number, one platform, at one given moment. They don't show the full picture of what it feels like to actually play, and they definitely don't capture the community that's actively helping shape what Arena Reloaded is becoming [including upcoming content like Arena Royale]."

The multiplayer shooter will return to beta as more layoffs hit 1047 Games
But… he went on stage and said his game was “F’n awesome”. You can’t be wrong with that much conviction. Can you?
I didn’t touch Splitgate 2. I did play the first Splitgate for maybe 10hrs. The game felt like it lacked its own identity. Even with the portal mechanics, the bland weapons, art and maps, made the game come of as a wannabe, less refined Halo.
This game is for portal jumping sweats. The no portal mode was probably where I had the most fun but it gets boring quick

A decent successor that expands on the original, but never really surpasses it.
An astounding misinterpretation of the creators quote. This isn't a "CoD-killer". Splitgate plays nothing like CoD. The dev doesn't even say he's trying to compete with CoD, and in fact it's the opposite. In the quote this writer uses IN THE ARTICLE, he says he's tired of playing the same FPS style every year. Obviously he's trying to offer an alternative, not directly compete.
Yeah, the author here is taking a lot of liberties here. Proulx was obviously saying that people needed different types of games than the draw of the annual CoD. He was not saying it was a CoD Killer, only something that wasn't trying to recreate what CoD is doing.
