Also, some of those "comparisons" are absolutely terrible quality, unless their native direct-feed whats the point in even looking?

No offence but no game so far looks as good as Resident Evil 5 on XBOX 360. Now they are trying to say that Resident Evil 5 looks better than Killzone 2.

This is probably just another biased no-name website with an agenda that's trying to make it seem like Killzone 2 has an equal technically, in the form of a multiplatform game of all things. In many of those screenshot comparisons, they're using in-game KZ2 shots against embellished devshots from Capcom rendered at impossibly high resolutions.

The fact of the matter is, as pretty as it is, Resident Evil 5 lacks any form of dynamic shadow casting = Killzone 2 wins by default. Any game that uses simple per-character drop shadows in lieu of fully global shadow buffers (i.e., shadows that cast from every object, character, building, leaf, everything) just isn't that impressive anymore.

This is not mentioning the far more impressive destruction and object physics and ragdoll/death animations that Killzone 2 features, which aren't approached by anything we've seen in RE5 thus far.

bit of an unusualy comparison, and i thought the crysis/kz one we saw was odd haha end of the day its impossible to compare two very different games like this, especially as some screenshots may be from a better quality source than the other.

i'm pretty sure when i'm sat at home playing re5 and kz2 i won't be thinking 'hmm which one is graphically more stunning...?'

Resident evil 5's demo doesn't even have ragdoll effects of any kind, and doesn't even come close to the realism that killzone 2 has, this isn't even comparable, nice try though.

btw, resident 5 has horrible ps1 controls, tank like, no improvements, just so you know, play the demo you'll see.

no game that's on the xbox 360 or a multiplatform game can be compared to killzone 2s graphics, physics and animation.

the fact is that the ps3 is a more powerful console than the xbox 360 and a lot of people dont like hearing the truth.
the ps3s cell chip broadband and the blu ray tech alone can produce things far exceding that of anything the xbox 360 can produce.
so whenever there is a game on the ps3 that utilizes the cell chip and the blu ray to a certain degree, no other console at present will be able to do the same things in that game.

In technical wise Killzone 2 is a complete map loaded in the memory and processed while RE5 is scene by scene and still looking worse than killzone 2. I saw the IGN video and the editor said that Killzone 2 looks almost as good as Crysis but maybe the post processing in Crysis(but nothing can beat Crysis) is better he added " Still its something you haven't seen in console your in for a Gameplay and Graphical treat"

The important things are solid gameplay and level design!!!! I'm sure the graphics in both of these games are stellar. Killzone 2 still gets my knod for all the things that game engine manages to do at one time. It has alot more shat going on in the environmnets.

KZ2 has much more effect at the same time on screen as RE5.

If you look at LBP how realistic it looks or GT5 you wouldnt be able to make a shooter with so many polygons at the same time like in GT5, this gen.

I haven't seen enough of RE5 to know much about it...but many hands on impressions where mixed on the visuals...apparently the opening desert level thing is gorgeous...and it goes drastically down hill from there...with LOTS of corner cutting in terms of lighting and animation...

there was a 30 minute discussion on it on the very last 1up yours podcast...thats all I am going off of...I don't know for sure, as I haven't played it...

interesting though...one thing is arguably certain...the 360's best looking title is going to be multiplatform again...same thing happened with CoD 4, which was only topped by UT3 arguably...then Gears 2...

Actually RE5 looks better. Wow i'm surprised. Killzone 2 has depressing scenery(too grey). Its not as visually appealing. RE5 looks crisper. The screenshots of RE5 look amazing. More colours as well too.

It's so obvious that KZ2 is way above any other console game, there just isnt any comparison possible.
R5 looks great on its own, it has to be the best looking MP game, but dont think it comes close to KZ2, just look at both running. It's that obvious.

I think these articles appear to create the ilusion that 360 games (even if not exclusive) are some how neck and neck in the graphics departement with PS3 exclusive, which is a big BS and non biased people know so. This is simply material to fuel the fanboys console wars...

We've seen many screens of both games before. How can you not know that both these games look great? Why is this even being brought up now?

The only thing that looks really good in RE5 is the character you're playing. Other then that, the textures, physics and animations are last gen. To compare this last gen visual garbage to KZ2 is an insult.

Come on, don't joke. Killzone 2 is infinitely better from a technical point of view and clearly better from a graphical point of view. Resident Evil 5 looks very nice, but its world is noticeably more fake and less physics-heavy, it's arcade-based. Besides, Killzone 2 looks much better.

Killzone 2 has more going on especially when you see it running with all the particle effects, things swaying in the wind, and dynamic lighting.

Resident Evil 5 looks very visually impressive but everything is very static, if that makes sense. I believe someone said it above me, Resi 5 makes a very good screen shot but when the games are in full motion you can see the difference between the two.

Both do look visually impressive and definitely a step in the right direction. Props to Capcom and Guerilla Games.

The lightening in Killzone 2 is simply untouchable & the animations are only rivaled by Uncharted. That said RE5 is a pretty good looking game, I played the demo on 360 & I have seen every video of Killzone 2 ever released & in my opinion RE5 doesn't even come close to what Killzone 2 is doing in graphics department. I am not bashing the game RE5 and Killzone 2 are two separate games. RE5 is a slow paced survival horror game in which not much is happening at any given time while in Killzone 2, just in the first section you are fighting like 20 enemies plus your allies plus the lightening effects, fire etc. In Killzone 2 there is so much going on at once. You can't really compare the two.

i find it interesting that kz2 is not even out yet, AND we already we have other games which purport to be as good/better looking.

perhaps kz2 will raise the bar, but let's not forget that it won't be long until we see kz2 trumped. probably on a competing console. The one with a better gpu.

Gears 2 looks better than RE5, RE5 is really good and I expect the final game will be brilliant but the controls and animation needed more work, both KZ2 and Gears 2 have better animation and some better graphical effects, different art direction yes and RE5 does look fantastic but the animations and controls let it down a tad, if we are going for the overall effect then RE5 falls short of gears and KZ.

How sad... its clear the author of this article is trying to downplay Killzone 2 superior graphics by showing clear high resolution shots of RE5 and shamefully compare it to poor low resolution pics of KZ2. Only a fool will not see through this stupid attempt to try and paint RE5 as the better looking game.

The fact of the matter is KZ2 is the better looking and playing game (not a huge fan of the control system for RE series) and RE5, as of now, (Till see the real God Of War 3) is the second best looking game.

Of course Killzone 2 looks better (it will also play better). I tried the RE5 demo out today on the 360 and it is garbage. It's nothing but the same game repackaged and it feels more like an overpriced expansion pack plus the controls feel like last gen controls even with the new control scheme.

These graphics comparisons should not be happening. It is like trying to prove one game is better than the other judging by the visuals.

Every game that is out there and in development is UNIQUE. Unique in its story, design, presentation, gameplay, visuals and other elements it is built on. Each game is different; therefore its experiences will differ from other games. For example, Gears of War provides an experience Uncharted will not provide (and vice versa). Same with Metal Gear Solid against Splinter Cell; Alan Wake against Heavy Rain; Halo against Killzone; God of War against Ninja Gaiden; F.E.A.R against DOOM; Call of Duty against Brothers in Arms etc (NOTE: I love each of those IPs). Each of these games is an entertainment tool - we game to get entertained and have fun in the process. These games allow us to be the actors and heroes in the fictional interactive worlds. So, regardless of platform (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, wii, PC, mobile), each game is unique and will provide a different experience.

Comparisons are irrelevant. Both Killzone 2 and Resident Evil 5 are beautiful games. When I get Killzone 2, I will enjoy it for the game that it is…it will provide me an experience Resident Evil 5 cannot. And when I will also get Resident Evil 5, it will give me an experience Killzone 2 cannot.

Just to name a few, I am also looking forward to InFamous, God of War 3, DarkSiders, Riddick, F.E.A.R 2, Halo 3 ODST, Halo Wars, Alan Wake, Heavy Rain, Splinter Cell Conviction, Dark Void, Deus Ex 3, Rage and Aliens Colonial Marines.

The reason games look different graphically is a combination of GAME ENGINE/TECHNOLOGY and ART STYLE the developers are building there games on.

Is this even a comparison? Hi-res RE5 screens vs low-res crappy Killzone 2 screens? And he doesn't even show the particles or the environmental details in KZ2. If an article ever was biased, this one would make #1 on the list.

A comparison between RE5 and MGS4 would be more interesting, because the visual style is more similar. On a side note, Resident Evil 5, it seems, has become an action game.

Who cares what resolution these photos are captured at, they're photos!

If you really want to compare graphic capability, you don't do it with screen shots, rather, video footage is the way to go.

The environmental and motion ability is not captured in a still shot and this is where you begin to differntiate graphical capability.

In my opinion, photos are a poor method of comparison. Furthermore, it's a bit of an insult to GG having their 4+ years of solid effort compared to RE5.

Either way, I'm sure both games are going to look fantastic....Just don't have both running side by side, the difference will clearly favour K2 i'm sure.

RE 5 looks better IMO, I honestly dont like the look of KZ 2 and it looks nowhere near as good as its trailer. The game is waaaaay to dark and grey. RE5 looks beautiful, almost as good as MGS4 which looks better than anything.

Is the author of this article kidding? First of all im a huge fan of the RE series. But i have to speak the truth when it comes to re5 graphics. Even if you compare RE5 to MGS4 there s a huge gap in visual quality in favor of MGS4. I actually own a x360 connected via HDMI to my Sony KDL-52Z4500 LCD. Yesterday I played the RE5 demo on it and was pretty underwhelmed regarding the animations of the zombies, the environments and the quality of the cutscenes. RE5 looks and plays like a last gen game. In MGS4 everything is polished, the animations are top-notch and the effects are mind-blowing. Cant say the same for Re5, which looks like an hd version of Re4. Comparing this game`s graphics to KZ2`s is utterly stupid and only shows that some people dont have eyes in their heads or need glasses!! This is a desperate try of 360fanboys who cant bear the visual prowess of the Killzone2 engine.

The only way any game can compete with Killzone is on an artistic level, through art direction. A better looking game MIGHT pop up in the next few years, although I cant think what it might be.

On a technical level, the graphics cant be touched. In fact they're not even within reaching distance to fool yourself they might be touched if you just stretch a little further.

Internet screenshots and videos don't do these games justice. Stop giving traffic to sites that post comparisons. They are both completely different games and I'm sure most gamers will be purchasing both RE5 and KZ2.

Booth games look great. Didn't matter PS3 or X360 version,booth consoles are great.
But..there's 2 things why KZ2 shots are less sharp...

1, It's taken from TV
2, KZ2 using lots of blur (gives more realistic gameplay)

None of these shots do either game justice. Anyways the only way to compare games is in motion. RE5 does have some high resolution textures but KZ2 just looks better. At this point it really does not matter. It like the race for the fastest top speed for a production car. Do you really car if the Veyron can go 253mph and the SCC Aero can go 270mph, no. Fast is fast good looking is good looking. Call me when someone goes 300 mph.

Hell if you're not going to seek games that actually share common ground in art design , at least pick them according to genres .
Resident evil 5 vs uncharted 1 or 2 vs gears of war 1 or 2 would be a far better match . It would even the field by comparing ps3 exclusive vs multi , and 360 exclusive vs multi , between games that actually share a lot gameplay wise .

To compare graphical qualites in games you cannot compare screenshots. Screenshots give no justice to a game's graphical prowess. The only way to compare graphics in my opinion is through actualy gameplay. Animations, texture quality, just the overall feel is lost in screenshots.

And I have to say as much as I love RE Series(Especially RE4 which is one of my fav of all time) ,Killzone 2 looks better. But not much better. Killzone 2 is not what Sony wished it could be ,but it will amaze you. Killzone 2 I think took the lead in best looking console game,but not by much.

But Resident Evil has the edge. Look at the character models, clothes, the ridiculous amount of detail in the stages. Not to mention the fact that in Resident Evil you're being swarmed by more enemies than you can count.

The only way you could prefer RE graphics is through the art design. Lots of people commented they think Killzone is bit dull. But still, only that stupid xbox fanboy (cant remember the name but he has a picture of half a girls head in black and white) said killzone looked worse. At the end of the day Killzone is technically the better looker, animator etc, but it comes down to which artistic direction you prefer

Don't know why people haven't said this yet, but why in the hell are we comparing a third party game to a first party game. Killzone 2 probably has a bigger budget than Resident Evil 5, they have alot more resources and help from other studios to create the engine which Killzone 2 runs on.

Hell, give any games studio 4+ years, tons of cash/resources and help from other studios and I'm pretty sure you could create a game as good looking as Killzone 2 on the console.

Ive been playing the demo today. Resi 5 does look good however not killzone 2 good. Resi's visuals are very simalar to Uncharted.

Still its just a shame the Resi 5 demo was disapointing for me.

Just the simple fact that people are comparing RE5 with K2 a game that is been compared with Crisis, shows you how good R5 looks. I still think K2 looks technically better though.

in pictures they can look pretty equal, but in motion KZ2 wins in my opinion, the animations are just out of this world. i've noticed some really awkward last-gen animations (pulled straight from RE4 probably) in some RE5 videos. granted the game is not released and they could still fix some of the animations but yea.. i doubt they can beat KZ2.

I'm a 360 supporter and I'm glad KZ2 looks awesome because that means the 360 now has to answer back to it's fanboys/supporters. It puts pressure on them to get off the HALO train and give us something new and exclusive/creative

RE5 can't hold a candle to Killzone in anything. They still have the recycled hit response system from RE4. lol. Killzone is pulling off hundreds of light sources casting dynamic shadows, 2XMSAA, d.o.f., f.s. motion blur, hit-response/ ragdoll animation system with i.k., volumetric particles & and explosions, and the list goes on. Even the sparks from bullet impacting metal has physics as they bounce of the ground. RE5 doesn't have sh!t on killzone 2.

I'm really excited for Resident Evil 5, and there's no way I'll miss out on it, but visually speaking, Killzone 2 definitely takes the cake!
I don't consider myself to be a graphics whore, don't get me wrong, I appreciate great looking visuals, but if the game's broken, the game's broken. Fortunately that doesn't seem to be the case with Killzone 2!
But anyways, I don't recall there ever being a game that has made me doubt my eyes more, as whether to believe something is CG or not!
Heck, just take a look at the preview build I linked to!
The water, the weapon, the environment; you don't need to be a graphics whore to appreciate all the work GG has put in their game. Fanboy or not, for the love of gaming, give credit where credit is due FOR ONCE!

I am tring to figure out why they are comparing them in the first place. Two different art designs used int Killzone 2 and RE5. It just stupid to even try to compare them. Both games look freakin sweet. Why bother to waste your time justifing if one looks better? I have have heard many people here state "graphics aren't everything" "if the controls suck graphics don't mean crap" judge the games by how they play. I know that I like Killzone 2 controls already I was in the beta. I do know I don't like RE5 controls. So that makes me not get the game.

In short both game look great.

I don't think that Haze was ever given alot of resources/cash to make it graphically amazing game. I think that Sony did offer to help Free Radical however for some reason, Free Radical didn't want any help from Sony and decided to do it alone. Second, Haze was going to be a mutiplatform game and at the last moment Sony paid for it to be exclusive.

Too Human, well, that game was in developement for 10 years and kept on being built on one platform and then moved to another which would make it very hard to even consider making it look like a good looking game. I'm also not sure how many of these ten years spent in the studio that the game was activity being worked on. Even then, we don't know the development costs for this game.

Duke Nukem Forever, this game is still being worked on and it was made by the same people who made Prey on the Xbox 360, PC. They tend to take a long time making thier games. They pretty much get to a point in developement and then dump it again just to redo it all over again. We really haven't seen enough of Duke Nukem Forever in form of gameplay trailers/demos etc to see whether or not it will graphically look great.

Halo 3 costed $30,000,000 to make and another $30,000,000 was used to advertise the game. It took Bungie three years to make Halo 3 starting in 2004 just before Halo 2 was being finished up on. Halo 3 does use its own proprietary engine which I think is dubbed the "Halo 3 Engine."

GG was given around 4+ years to create a new engine to run on the PS3, they are also given more access to resources/money/support because they are a first party studio. Alot of Sony's other first party studios have also helped GG create the engine which Killzone 2 runs on, sharing the tech between them so they are able to create a good looking game.

lets be serious here, as much as I love the RE series, be realistic, you cant compare RE5 to KZ2, seriously. RE5 doesnt do what KZ2 can. you want to compare killzone 2 with some other game, compare it to Crysis. IT is disrespectful to compare a good looking game such as killzone 2 to a multi-platform game, or any other 360 game for that matter. Compare Killzone 2 to PC games that blend the line between CGI and in-game, which is what a games like Crysis and Killzone 2 does.
