I really didn’t like the game but because it’s Obsidian, I’m glad it did okay. Big fan of Beth/Obsidian.
Hopefully this was their warm-up game.

lucasnooker318d ago

Hopefully this was their warm up game. Yeah, only a 5 year development time warm up lol

lukasmain318d ago (Edited 318d ago )

Telling how many players really doesn't mean much. I wonder what the actual sales numbers are.

Lightning77318d ago (Edited 318d ago )

They

Don't

Give

Out

Sales

Numbers

Period....

The fact it needs to be said repeatedly is pathetic.

318d ago
lukasmain318d ago (Edited 318d ago )

@Lightning you angry little peanut
I 'wondered' what the sales numbers are. I never asked a question on the sales. Your comment never needed to be said. So you can shuttup. How about that?

thorstein318d ago (Edited 318d ago )

Wait. So now it doesn't matter? Am I in some alternate reality? A few months ago when a game released that was claimed to be "woke" (but actually wasn't) that was the single most important "fact" that meant it failed.

Lightning77318d ago

You're not gonna learn. The next game Xbox releases you'll say the same thing because that's what you types do. I only see one type of fanbase that always says "where are the sales" they've never give out Sales since X1 days.

You or I will never know what the sales are from MS directly. When you ppl always say every single time here, twitter what have you every single time it gets excruciatingly annoying.

BehindTheRows318d ago (Edited 318d ago )

Microsoft shifted to "player counts" last gen, so you'll likely never know. As it stands, though, it probably hasn't done too bad.

Yes congrats to them. they really are a top tired developer, i do hope they can build on it and give us some paid dlc maybe and also work towards a sequel.
I absolutely loved the game, its not skyrim or oblivion but does borrow some parts of what made those games great. Its a more focused towards action game and really is great for what it is. The combat alone has so much nuance and depth.. i am hoping they give us new game plus at the very least.. I would so play through again making different choices and using a alternate build.

ocelot07319d ago

If we use the astro bot logic plenty have people used. Seems a bit low? Considering there is 35mil GP subs (at a guess). Then the 100 million+ steam users.

pwnmaster3000319d ago (Edited 319d ago )

Lmaoo to be fair,
It was just one guy/gal with multiple accounts saying it lol.

thorstein318d ago

What an obscure observation.

DivineHand125319d ago (Edited 319d ago )

I think you are missing the point. The people who said Astro Bot had low sales did not say so to take a jab at PlayStation. Astro Bot is a great game and the people who actually played it want more games like it, however, we cannot convince Sony to invest more into the franchise if the sales are $1.5M. We see what Sony did to Days Gone and how hesitant Nintendo is about making games like Metroid or how Capcom feels about making MegaMan games. They are of the belief that "I have to green light the next games to be released in X amount of years but the budget is limited. Do I greenlight a game that sold $1.5M copies or a game that sold close to or more than $10M copies?" Astrobot could end up going dormant if it is not appreciated by the PlayStation user base.

Games like Avowed and Indiana Jones are a dime a dozen on the Xbox and PlayStation console so don't expect to see the same sentiments shared about those games.

ocelot07318d ago

It sold as 1.5 million as of November 2024 4 months ago. Sony has as far as I know have not given any more numbers.

Could be 1.6 could be 5 could be nearly 10 I don't know.

D2niceforu318d ago

What? astro bot was played by 2% of PS5 users.... This looks like 17% of Gamepass subs alone. Steam is different story.

ocelot07318d ago

How is steam a different story. I have heard so many stories over the last year. Exclusives are anti consumer. Exclusives don't matter. PC is the main platform for example.

You would think a game coming from a great dev such as obsidian. Who one made Fallout New Vegas and The Outer Worlds. You would think it would of sold a lot better on Steam alone. Not 6 mill between steam, PC and pc gamepass, Xbox and Xbox Gamepass.

Christopher317d ago

2% of PS5 users is currently 500k, but astrobot sold over 1.5m.

We don't know how many of Game Pass subscribers are Game Pass Standard/PC/Ultimate, only how many Game Pass subscribers there are (Core doesn't get access to the game). We also don't know how many are sales vs subs or how long people played. There's just too many unknowns, unlike the sales of astrobot on PS5.

What I do know is that at least one of those players was me, I bought it on Series X and have enjoyed it.

Zeref319d ago

I'm glad to see Xbox games are doing well

TrueRican69319d ago

I don't know what universe you think Xbox doing well If that was a case Xbox games doing well there won't be coming to PlayStation

Reaper22_318d ago

They're coming to playstation because you can't get them as part of a subscription there. Thats just clever business.

Michiel1989318d ago

he said xbox GAMES are doing well, not xbox as a whole. reading is hard

Zeref317d ago (Edited 317d ago )

Avowed is not on Playstation and neither is Indiana Jones.

TrueRican69319d ago

You do know they lie about the number is a whole f****** lie there 5698 players right now on steam playing was that 5.9 million players at it's not on Xbox I tell you that and it's not on steam So where are you getting these f****** numbers

lukasmain318d ago

They said "players" not people who bought the game. So it's probably all the people who even turned on the game to try it for free and then left. 5.9 million is not really a good number so who cares?

318d ago
Lightning77318d ago (Edited 318d ago )

Uuh Gamepass clearly where else? That's where the player counts come from.

D2niceforu318d ago

Thanks for the reporting TrueRican69 lol

Chevalier318d ago

Exactly 💯. Gullible idiots also fell for this when Hi-Fi Rush did amazing too remember? Lol. Remember telling the same idiots that the numbers didn't add up for Gamepass and something had to give? Then guess what Xbox had to start selling on Playstation and Nintendo because Xbox fans don't buy games.

BehindTheRows317d ago (Edited 317d ago )

Indeed, but as you know, you have a guy in this exchange that will accuse you of spreading misinformation/trolling, but won't ever tell you how and only does so in the protection of a brand he favors.

Apparently STALKER 2 charted on Xbox (per him), but he's the same guy that will then tell you to "stop bringing up sales" and won't show the "chart" displaying the data.

Now who knows how successful Avowed really is, but I would not be surprised to see it also end up on rival consoles. Just not something you saw in any previous gen Xbox has been a part of and a wildly different situation to just porting exclusives to PC. As you said — something had to give.

Zeref317d ago

Bro is having a meltdown because Xbox games are doing well 😂😂

Chevalier316d ago (Edited 316d ago )

Same idiots believed Greenburg when they said Hi-Fi Rush had some of the best metrics too. Only ended up with closed studio and releasing on Playstation and Nintendo consoles.

Damn Xbox fans are so damn gullible. 🤣 Guess this just means this game is on the way to other consoles soon. Just like Gears, Forza, Halo.

Having a meltdown over Avowed? 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 If it was doing well we would hear about topping sales.

I’m glad Obsidian found enough success after being acquired by the borg. Hopefully they’re safe from downsizing, for now. It’s a great game that you can tell had some love poured into the world and canon by the team. I really hope to see more of this quality from them in the future and based on the first 40 hours, I expect I’ll get another 40+ more out of it and still have more side questing to do.

Avowed PS5 Version Releases February 17; Anniversary Update Announced

Avowed is headed to PS5 this February 17, 2026, as an Anniversary Update that houses new content for free has been announced too.

MetroidFREAK218d ago

No physical = no buy... and none of that empty launcher disc nonsense (Doom The Dark Ages)

TheGamersDojo7d ago

You can expect it to be EXACTLY like Doom the Dark Ages and Indiana Jones IF it has a physical copy.

Christopher7d ago

Really happy to see new races and a new weapon. Going to enjoy NG+.

VenomUK7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

PlayStation might have got the Mickey Mouse RPG, Avowed, but it will NEVER get Starfield - and you can quote me on that!

Alos887d ago

Really? Starfield exclusivity is your idea of a gotcha?

TriniOutsider7d ago

Listen man, Xbox already lost its three biggest pillars to PS5. Halo, Foza, and Gears. It's just a matter of time for Starfield.

"Just four games" said some guy.

boing17d ago

Brah...Starfield is a done deal.

Christopher7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

Avowed >>> Starfield. I've put over 100 hours in Starfield. I gave it its due. Avowed is just better gameplay, story, voice acting. Hands down. The problem is it's just not everyone cup of tea for an RPG setting/concept. It's more like Fable. But it's good.

So bragging about Starfield not going to PS5 is a very weird flex, IMHO. It got carried by the Bethesda name. If someone else had put it out, it would underperformed.

Now, on the topic of 'losing another one'. I'd be fine if all exclusives were timed. Give it 2 to 4 years exclusivity on a platform and then just splurge it everywhere. I don't see this as Microsoft losing anything. They had their biggest sales potential on their platform, now get more elsewhere.

Ethereal7d ago

PlayStation will get Starfield. I'm willing to put money on it.

Lightning777d ago (Edited 7d ago )

Has to be s joke because SF is rumored to be slated for PS5. Listen everything is going over. Thought we were past this a long Time ago.

VenomUK7d ago

@Christopher et al. Regarding PlayStation 'NEVER' getting Starfield, I was merely meme-ing the many who vehemently said and believed the same the same thing! Now the holy trinity has been confirmed I thought it obvious to everyone that means the whole slate is going to PlayStation.

Also, 'tis true I have not played Avowed for myself, but the reviews I read and watched when it launched were mostly critical, hopefully the big update fixes all that. As will the big Starfield update should so that PS5 players get to experience the game it was always meant to be.

Putte7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

You do know that Starfield for PS5 is heavily rumored right..
And also Starfield was a really Bad game.

Elda6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Like the words of Connie Marble..."We'll just see!!" XB is now a third party developer, it's just that some & I mean some of their newly released games may be timed exclusive on the XB gaming console then it'll eventually release on the PS5 gaming console.

So is Avowed as big as Halo and Forza? (Agree for this) Or more of the same level as Sea of Thieves? (Disagree for this)

Neonridr7d ago

why would you ever think a one-off RPG like Avowed would compare to storied franchises like Halo and Forza?

I think you already know the answer to your question without even needing responses.

maximusprime_7d ago

Honestly I never heard of Avowed. I just wanted to know how big Avowed was when it was on xbox

Neonridr7d ago

@maximusprime - totally different game from the ones you mentioned. I don't think it moved any needles, although it getting a second chance on the PS5 isn't a bad thing for the game.

Christopher7d ago

Avowed isn't one-off. It's in the Pillars of Eternity slew of games and continues the story after Deadfire.

Neonridr4d ago

@Christopher - fair enough, I don't know enough about the entire story. I just don't feel it compares to more established franchises like Halo and and Forza.

Christopher7d ago

Slightly above Sea of Thieves I'd say. But Sea of Thieves sold well on PS5 at release. Avowed is a niche RPG due to its setting and lack of nostalgia behind it. But it is a traditional Western RPG that mostly indies are providing nowadays. It's nice to see bigger studios continuing to support them. Especially since BioWare seems to be dealing with internal issues on their end.

Avowed's NG+, fresh kind of weapon and photo mode are now coming in a beefy anniversary update

No autumn update shall exist, with Obsidian having announced that they're shifting efforts to "a larger update coming next February, timed with the anniversary of the game’s release". As such, stuff like new game plus, a photo mode, and a new type of weapon will now be arriving around February 18th, having been delayed from their original slot.
