Rockstar Buys GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition Developer, Renames It Rockstar Australia

Rockstar has acquired Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition developer Video Games Deluxe and renamed it Rockstar Australia.

italiangamer319d ago

Didn't even know Brendan McNamara was still in the business.

DaReapa319d ago

Seeing that he's reassociated himself with R*, it would be nice to see a follow-up to L.A. Noire.

chicken_in_the_corn319d ago

I doubt it will happen. Rockstar Australia will probably be developing Rockstar's next game, with the rest of Rockstar's studios.

Dirty_Lemons318d ago (Edited 318d ago )

Hey Alan Wake II showed it might be many years but sequels are always possible! NY Noire? 🤔

Profchaos319d ago (Edited 319d ago )

He really shouldn't be guy is scum I wonder if he still runs it like a boys club if your not from the UK your on the outside and disposable meanwhile bashing Aussies and breaking our labour laws what he did during the development of LA noire is extremely illegal here and he got lucky he was able to intimidate his staff into not reporting it

goken318d ago (Edited 318d ago )

Sounds bad
I am not familiar with the incident, so i honestly do not know.
But… if whatever he did was not reported, then where did this information come from?

Profchaos318d ago

@goken
This is a great video that explains everything that went wrong with la noire Rockstar and team Bondi during la noires development

Probably the most baffling acquisition ive ever seen, they absolutely screwed up something that should've been so simple, and then took so long to fix it that R* themselves fixed it for them and took their studio name off the splash screen......and so they acquired them?

Christopher319d ago

Keep the talent that is familiar with your engine(s), get rid of the bad management.

red2tango319d ago

It's literally in the article:

"It’s not to be confused with Grove Street Games, which came under fire for the poor quality of the original Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition in 2021"

isarai319d ago (Edited 319d ago )

Dayum im dumb, i skimmed the article qnd didn't see that 😅

Koneesha319d ago

Yeah, these are the people that Rockstar brought into to fix the trilogy not Grove Street Games who originally made it and messed it up!

-Foxtrot319d ago

I don’t get it

I’d rather they forget this game happened and tried again a few years later when next gen rolls around with some proper remasters

Maybe actually spend some money to renew the music licenses for the songs they removed

Profchaos319d ago

This isn't Grove St games it's the team that fixed Grove St games mess in the recent Netflix Android and iOS versions and ported the improvements to the console recently.

Game is significantly overhauled today as a result.

-Foxtrot318d ago

It’s an improvement but I still don’t think it’s the best it could have been.

Profchaos318d ago

True it's an improvement but they did have to work with what they had and that was a ultra janky port of a mobile game thrown together by like 4 people per game.

Seriously in the old version after completing vice city I saw Grove St employees were listed and there was only 4 people in it there's bigger teams out there working on homebrew games.

KwietStorm_BLM319d ago

And still has Grove Street Games scrubbed from the credits.

DafunkyRebel319d ago (Edited 319d ago )

Rockstar saw the absolute botch of the Definitive Edition of their most beloved games as a personal insult and decided to destroy the studio responsible and renamed it entirely. Probably fired a bunch of people too. Its Rockstar's legacy they tarnished so I would be absolutely furious if I was an executive over there

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty7h ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan10h ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher7h ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty7h ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies121h ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

Kotick Made $155 million from MS in the buyout, the little b*tch needs to stop whining. Thanks to this Microslop deal and massive industry consolidation thousands upon thousands of devs and other workers lost their livelihoods. This greedy piggie pervert needs shut up and f-off.
