That's why it's sitting pretty at the top of the pre-order charts for Gamestop and Amazon.com. I think you focus far too much on the US, the PS3 is massive in Europe and Japan.

I am in no doubt Killzone 2 will sell really well, it's a game like no other on the PS3, and PS3 owners would want this game in their collection.

the game will do as well as mgs4, there is no way it will do R2 numbers but i dont expect it to do gears numbers or halo numbers, not that it should or cant. Its a fps, and thats not what is known with the ps3.

But i do expect good numbers, its one of those games that has the hype behind it and it delivered but times are tough, its in a genre that can only go so far on the ps3. Plus unless sony starts to go ad crazy that alone will hurt the sales.

because most here remember what a turd the first killzone was. killzone doesn't have an installed base like halo or many other franchises had when they released the second game in it. just like resistance 2, it will be up to europe to produce any real sells for this game.

If Sony can't have a permanent price cut at present, then maybe they should consider a campaign promotion. $50 price cut + bundle for period of 1-2 months during KZ2 release.

Rinse and repeat for major releases like GOW3, and they should get some good console sales from there.

In the long run, increasing the install base can only do good to their games sales, which is where the profits come in (not to mention blu-ray and other sales).

Oh yea, and advertise like crazy whenever they have these campaigns coming up. People like a bargain always.

I'm sure MGS4 was the biggest hyped game for this gen consoles inline with Halo3. we all saw how it turned out. There were millions of screaming fanboys who had played its prequels before and were dying to buy the console just to play it. Hmmmm around less than gears2 sales all across? So what about the next biggest hyped game on ps3 kz2? Kz1 was a mediocre title and no fan following. You'd think it would surpass mgs4 in total software and forced hardware sales due to being bundled? I believe it will struggle to reach 1 million world wide. We all know these 30 odd sony lovers dont buy games and just have 20 accounts each on n4g.

Sony doesn't need to beef of marketing. Just look at all the "news" coming in on internet feeds relating to KZ2. Anyone who who knows what a D-Pad is knows about KZ2. The game is finished, it's in preshipping status and a gazillion people are going to play it. Then, another game will be coming out and in a few months and only those diehard fans will still be playing it. Heavy Rain, GOW3, GT5 are all going to be blockbusters as well. It's not like the gaming community needs one game to be the second coming. One game is not going to be the be all to end all. It's about experiencing a game for a while, letting it run your life then moving on to the next one.

Look if your main genre of choice is FPS Killzone is looking like it will provide you with an awesome experience if you prefer platformers then it may not be the game for you.

The Playstation brand for me represents diversity so there is NO 1 GAME TO RULE THEM ALL. PS3 is again showing Sony is determined to be just as diverse, come February I will own games as diverse as Killzone 2 and LBP and guess what my gaming experience is richer for it.

I was at work Monday an me an a co worker was talking about games, he has a 360 an him an his brother share a PS3. I asked him was he buying KZ2 the day it comes out, he looked at me a said what is KILLZONE!! are you serious!! that Killzone 2 will sell quite well. I'm not saying 5.5 million in the first year at all, but I would not be surprised if it hit 3.0 million + in that time frame, simply because the majority of PS3 owners in the world know of the game because it has been in production for almost four years.

That doesn't mean all of them are interested by any means, but many will be. I say that because the PS3, as the most expensive (overpriced?) system, is usually only purchased by serious gamers. The Wii, with its motion-control gimmick, appeals to causal gamers. The 360, with many hard-core fans, is also now becoming viable to the more casual market because of its $199 dollar price tag.

My only point is that the PS3, with its hefty cost, is the system with the least "casual" appeal, meaning it has the smallest percentage of casual gamers. Look at the best selling PS3 titles: Resistance: Fall of Man, MGS4, GTAIV, Motorstorm, COD4, Assassins Creed. Every one of these titles is hard core, and every one has sold more than 3 million copies.

Killzone, as arguably the most "hard-core" game to appear on the PS3 yet, will have massive appeal to the hardcore market, which is by far the largest percentage of PS3 owners. It simply makes sense that a large percentage of "Hard-core" PS3 owners will flock to the biggest hard-core game launch for months to come.

It doesn't matter how much hate K2 generates, the fact of the matter is that this is the DEFINITIVE GAME FOR THE PS3. I was one of the idiots who bought a 360 on day one. Guess what, just like everybody else, all I played was Call of Duty 2 and Halo 2 on it because there were no good games to pay 60 bucks on.

The only reason 360's started to sell was because of their savior...Gears Of War. Killzone 2 is not the PS3 savior as it was selling well, (20 million, even with the highest price tag and MGS4 as its original AAA-blockbuster game) with it's blu-ray and quality exclusive. (Batman: The Dark Knight sold over 1.1 million on blu-ray.) K2 will push PS3's out the door...before the $299 price tag hits the streets. WHICH IS WHY MS HAS PLACED HALO RECON, WARS, AND THE GTA4 DLC STUFF AROUND THE K2 RELEASE DATE.

Im sure Killzone 2 will sell very well in NA and Europe, except Japan. Japan is the only country in Asia that still hasnt accepted the FPS genre and i am very baffled by this attitude since almost every Asian country plays FPS like mad and joins in tournaments. Since i first saw Killzone 2 i was already entranced by the graphics and upon hearing that the AI and story was good ive already pledged my allegiance to GG and is a new fan of the series (also pre-ordered). The haters may bash this game any which way they like but its their loss not mine. I havent been this excited for a game in a long time plus if i add the fact that Uncharted 2, God of War 3 and many other known games are just months away from release i can definitely say 2009 will become a vintage year for awesome games. i agree with most of that article. think the game will be great, a decent ammount will buy it but its not exactly going to be record breaking figures. fanboys on here will defend/ bash the sales but really the real gamers will enjoy it for being a great game regardless of how well it sells.

it would be nice to see high sales but only because more sales means more devs may be convinced to make ps3 exclusives, better competition is better games all round for all consoles. Other than that though i'm just really looking forward to getting my hands on it :)

WRONG! Resistance 2 was generic and boring. The graphical ABILITY of the engine is great, but poorly used. The AI is pathetic, and by pathetic I mean F-ING PATHETIC! The story was generic and cliche, the weapons were overrated (and poorly balanced) and the acting was very badly done. Resistance 2 sucks, it is a very bad game. (Which is too bad, because the Ratchet and Clank series is very fun!)

Adding more people to a multiplayer mode doesn't make it inventive. It's still the same old crap except now in deathmatch you die faster! Yipee!

Instead we get a rip-off of Second Life and a platformer that (I'm sorry) doesn't live up to its predecessors. (Here's looking at you Mario, Sonic, and Crash!)

All this being said, I haven't played Killzone 2 yet, but it looks amazing. It looks very fun and very innovative. I'm looking forward to it, but I'm not expecting it to be the Second Coming in video-game form either.

I went to Gamestop and I had a small arguement with the manager, she stated that I needed to pre-order K2 in order to get the DEMO code. Guess what? They were running SHORT on those DEMO codes and it wasn't ONLY her store. There was about 5 different stores and most ran out! I pre-ordered mine more than a year and a half ago and I got my DEMO code.

Sony really does need another mainline shooter franchise. They pretty much gave up after the PS3 generation, and I'm really surprised they haven't tried at another high-profile, singleplayer-centric shooter; even if it weren't Killzone or Resistance.

I miss Killzone while I can see why they still do Horizon has some really good things but I do think that Horizon is overrated imo.

Or how about studios focus on projects that they feel passionate about, and not be forced to make something they have little interest in. It shows in the final product.

I’m beating a dead horse here… but Resisitance FOM gun lay out was so fun, multiplayer was one of my top favorite experiences. Insomniac nailed it and I would love a remaster and maybe a redo with Reisistance 2. They listens to players who were wanting a Halo killer and it kind of lost its character from the first.

Warhawk, if they had just remade the first one not Starhawk which offered nice things like the build and battle.. but Warhawk was the best arcade shooter I ever played. Back when you didn’t have battle passes and you actually had to get certain amount of kills or ribbons to unlock different paint skins on the Warhawks and armor for your player.. Look at the success of Helldivers 2, it’s a fun game and it reminds me of Warhawk in a way. I’ve been wanting a remake or sequel since the beginning of the ps4 gen.. it’s hurts to have hope nowadays. Even with the demise of the studios Sony has a steady fan base.

Sorry bud, but the PS3 generation was amazing and featured the greatest console comeback in history.

That said, I'd love it if Warhawk returned or Metal Gear Solid 4. It needs to not be shackled to the PS3 generation anymore. A Killzone 2 remake would be insane with modern graphics and that art direction.

I really miss this gen of gaming. It felt like the last truly "great" era for videogames before the modern approach really took hold.

I would pay good money for a Warhawk remake. Socom too. The last Socom game just didn’t do it justice. Folklore could use a remaster or remake as well.
Several other titles I would like to remade with the amount of visual fidelity the current gen has over the past consoles it could help articulate the games that we’ve loved growing up. I would love even some ps2 titles to remade.. Dark Cloud from ps2, Legacy of Kain series but don’t know what will come of it sense it was bought by Embracer group and all there layoffs.

This strategy is exactly what helped ruin Xbox. Sony more than Microsoft know when to let a franchise go and that is important to keep things fresh. The old games are there if you want to play them.
