I agree. VR itself just isn't interesting at to me. To each his own.

I think there is supposed to be something for everyone not just gaming. People want media consumption other people want education or travel and when it starts hitting those niches the culmination would make VR viable for mass adoption.

Interesting comments. Almost everything people are mentioning already exists in VR.

And the killer app? Still that old lie?

The killer apps include Resident Evil, Half Life Alyx, Moss Books 1 & 2, Walking Dead Saints and Sinners, Beat Saber, No Man's Sky 🤤, Gran Turismo, Creed, Star Wars Squadrons, Superhot, Hit Man 3, Doom 3, Minecraft, Skyrim, Batman: Arkham, Rec Room, and on and on.

Hurr durr hurr, no killer apps.

I'd disagree in a way but I understand to. It's more the barrier for entry the comfort and requirements I think are still problematic.

I am a day 1 adopter of the psvr2 and used the psvr also.

What I feel is although I love these systems they require more from you than picking up a controller they require effort to play and despite being enjoyable if it's late in the evening and your exhausted I know I'm more inclined to play flat screen personally I just don't have the energy to stand and play for another hour or two.

I think these systems really need to get down to the weight and portability of a pair of sunglasses and the controls have improved but still cause me to die more often than I'd like because of tracking glitches or fumbling around for the right button.

In saying all of that the resident evil games and gt7 have been legitimate highlights from the ps5 generation for me and my favourite way to play those games I don't think I can go back to playing resident evil on flatscreen mode.

However I think there needs to be more effort to implement VR modes in more games even if it's not as deep as a native VR game it's still going to be my preferred way of playing

And that's another source of friction there's not many big budget games for VR with most being bespoke spin off games at best and at worst no name indies you have to simply take a chance on and more often than not it doesn't pay off there's a lot of shovelware on there.

The issue with the approach is that the "killerapp" will not ever exist because its all about creativity and iterations. As well as funding of course...and it that area the xbox would be able to make major strides....but we know they dont know how to do that.

For me, any of the resident evil titles say otherwise.

Half Life Alyx strongly disagrees. Problem is it hasn't made it onto PSVR2 and most companies aren't putting the same effort into a VR game that Valve did. VR when done right is mind blowing.

I disagree VR does have killer apps, however, they may not be in the same way you expect.

There are different things that can motivate someone to try VR. If you live a sedentary lifestyle and want to get more active for health reasons, then VR is a good Start. There are some really good fitness apps with virtual personal trainers like Les Mills Body Combat that will push you to your limit. In addition to that there are VR games that can give you a workout without you realizing it because the game is fun. Examples of those fun games are beat saber, pistol whip, synth riders and until you fall. There are many testimonials from people on YouTube and other forums talking about how VR saved their lives.

There are also flat screen to VR mods that provides a high quality experience while breathing new life into older titles like the Half Life 2 VR Mod, Risk of Rain 2 etc.

On a side note, I keep seeing people say Half Life Alyx is the best VR game but that is not true. It has the best graphics and physics but the Half Life 2 VR Mod is a better game. There are many things Gordon Freeman can do that Alyx cannot do.

I think an MMOrpg built from the ground up for VR and REQUIRED for use could propel it to main stream. Most of the games people have listed above are single player games and were regular games retooled for VR , it really needs a social aspect and a necessitating force that would wanna make people truly invest in it. A killer app will compel people to invest in that requirement like buying all the instruments for Guitar Hero or me having to buy FF11/w hardrive ,network adapter and kb to play back in the day . Said app would probably have to be bundled with headset too like the wii and wii sports, most likely wouldn't have sold as much as it did hadn't not been shipped with it . Honestly if GTA6 online comes out with a VR mode and dedicated servers for that mode I'd get it

I agree, there have been some cool concepts and games I’ve played. Starwars edge of galaxy, resident evil 4, Aliens. Batman. Even the Pro Football which is my fav to be honest have been cool, but killer? Naw, not as of yet. I still play these games in small dosages, and sometimes find myself overwhelmed with certain games.

Microsoft isn’t good at making or quality controlling games, that’s why they buy all their developers.

Why go to a Microsoft corpo for what’s good on VR? That’s like going to church and asking where’s the good strip club.

There are so many amazing games and mods out there for VR. I’ve played over 100 hours in Valheim in VR because it’s so engrossing in that format vs 3rd person flat screen mode, it’s encouraged me to invest a lot more into my PC specs and HMD. VR enhances everything about the experience. The same can be said of many other official VR releases like Astrobot, GT7, HL Alyx, SuperHot, etc. We’re finally at a place where even APU’s have enough performance to push a quality VR experience. Just expect that it is going to get better from here on out and more essential.

VR has so much potential. I understand the sentiment that we don't yet have the "killer app" because in 10 years we may look back at this era as merely searching for what works best as a VR product. An example; we have things like SubSide that really feels incredible in its under water visuals and controls, we have things like Bone Works that shows how fun and realistic gun-pay can be, rock climbing games where you climb with your hands, but how about a game (Tomb Raider VR?) that combined these immersive features into one massive adventure?

But that being said, I would absolutely agree with many VR fans that we already have the killer app in the forms of; Half Life Alyx, Gran Tursimo 7, Resident evil 8, RE4R etc. Those to me blow way past traditional gaming.

To any who would claim VR is dead; no. It''s expensive, a little cumbersome to learn and therefore niche, yet healthy.
