I had a look and it seems to me to be a perfectly fine low budget 2d indie game inspired by Hindu-based legends (no offence meant if that's not the correct terminology). It has some nice animated cut-scenes that remind me of a the old eighties epic Mahabharat. Eslop is cynically made to cash in on easy trophy-hunters, or just for the fun of getting a product up on the PSN store. Whilst I haven't played The Kapih, I don't think it's that as it's been made to offer a full game inspired by the developers' heritage.
Anyone else notice, now that xbox is dead a bunch of sites seem to want to criticise Sony about anything they can try to complain about, even when it's obviously complaining for the sake of complaining. It's almost like they have an agenda 🤔
Bro this game actually looks fine, even the art style is oretty good. How about we talk about all the AI slop on the store like "the jumping B" and dozens of supermarket simulator rehashes and the dozen or so bodycam ripoffs all fully built of AI generated assets
What’s wrong with this game? Looks like a fun little co/op game. They post so many games of all types on PS YouTube channel. I watched this yesterday actually. It’s not a high end game but I like old some of these old school style games once in a while
The fact that N4G members are defending Sony for promoting this game is just sad. It looks like it would be a popup ad on a YouTube video.
This is old news though. It is already well known that games featured on Playstation.blog and the Sony channel are there because they paid to be. Sony doesn't spend any effort in curating their library beyond making sure the check clears.
'In fact, the term “debut” itself is up for debate: a version of this trailer first made its way to the public during the Xbox Showcase at IGDC 2024.'.
Sony just supporting smaller indie games around the world is now bad ? Should Sony only post trailers of blockbuster that will sell millions of copies even without any advertising?
Sony promoting smaller indie companies aimed at promoting their culture is a problem now? It's not like they put this trailer on during the State of Play.
You do realize the developer makes the trailer, Sony puts their intros and outros on it, and then submits it. That's about $40 of 'marketing' for this game from Sony's part.
Exactly when you think of it is it that different from wukong just because it's a clearly smaller budget and uses retro gameplay elements like shmups doesn't deserve hate.
I think it’s a fine low budget indie that is based on Indian mythology.
If anything Indian mythology is SUPER under represented in gaming.
Considering Indian mythology probably had considerable influence in other nations’ cultures and myths, it is interesting to see more studios explore it.
Uh, really? There's nothing wrong with this game. It's not for me, but sure it will find an audience. Elden Ring isn't for me, because it's brutal, but it sure as hell has an audience! 🤣
This fool article writer must be bitter that Sony is getting games inspired by India, China, Korea, South America, etc. That's what India Hero, China Hero, etc is about. Bringing new games and developers to the platform that one day, may grow into the next Naughty Dog, Capcom, Namco.
Reminds me of a game on Neo Geo called Midnight Wanderers. And that's a good thing for this developer's first time out.
PlayStation showcases Indies frequently via their social media channel what's the problem.
This isn't my cup of tea and probably only appealing to a very niche audience but it's not shovelware it clearly works and isn't a asset flip.
Is it because the game could be a mobile game because do you know what else is a mobile game among us, roblox, Minecraft, GTA the trilogy definitive edition, sonic mania, SpongeBob battle for bikini bottom.
Or is the problem the genre is retro style shmups and platforming and the writer feels they should only be AAA experiences
Also chill not like they didn't just have a good state of play recently showing more high end games
People need to realize that English nature and culture isn’t the only markets in the world. This game is clearly based in Hinduism or something of the sort as it shows some deities and folklore from it. If you’re making a game for that region that will appeal to them, and it’s digital only, why not release it in other regions? It cost localization, but different cultures are worldwide. Who’s to say the people of that faith or people that just love low budget games wouldn’t buy this? The thing that made PlayStation so awesome all these years IS them allowing so many different types of games. Microsoft is still feeling the pain of the fighting game closed minded decisions they made when they said “no 2D fighting games allowed” on their console. It was too old and a waste on the powerful 360. Firmly positioned PlayStation as THE place to go for fighting games. Even after backtracking the damage had been done. Fighting games still to today skip Xbox easily as anyone that wants to play them has a PlayStation. Fighting games don’t do well on Xbox.
This is just nonsense. Sony don't pick and choose what gets released on the store, anything that fits their platform guidelines can be released on their platform, provided they pay the necessary fees, and that also means they get to have their games trailer on the official PlayStation youtube channel. It's not some grand plan from Sony's marketing team to advertise these types of low budget games to players.
Besides, this game is not a problem. If people like the look of it and want to play it, great. It looks like it's made by an Indian development team, and there aren't many of those. Perhaps people in India or kids in India will enjoy a game that has themes tied to their folk stories and mythology. I don't know, but what I do know is if I don't like it, I can just ignore it. The game honestly doesn't appeal to me at all so I won't buy it or play it, but I think it looks fine. It's not ugly, it looks like it plays okay.
The problem that Sony does have on the store though, is that they have so many low quality AI generated or asset flip style games. It's the same problem with the Switch too. So many games that are just delivered with no effort at all. PS5 probably has 100+ games like 'stroke the tortoise' where you just press X until you get the platinum trophy. These are not real games, their platinum bait or in the case of the AI gen games, they're scams and the store would be a much better experience without them.
Weird take from the writer (I refuse to use the term 'journalist') of this hit piece. Firstly, there are so many more egregious examples to choose from to make the point that more curation of the store is needed. Secondly, why target Sony in this regard (its rhetorical, we know why!!) when every other online storefront is the same or even worse. Honestly, Steam and Nintendo are even worse for garbage asset flip games etc.
These articles are getting more lazy and opinionated. They are designed to stir the pot and honestly it's becoming pathetic. Games media is an industry that has suffered from the social media flood gates opening up to every Tom, Dick, and Harry.

Wow. What a trash of an article. smh.
