Xbox: Third Place, Now Third Party?

With the corroborated rumors that Microsoft is bringing Halo: The Master Chief Collection to PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2, is Xbox now officially a Sega-like third-party publisher?

The question doesn't make any sense.

"With the corroborated rumors that Microsoft is bringing Halo: The Master Chief Collection to PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2, is Xbox now officially a Sega-like third-party publisher?"

How can Xbox officially be a 3rd party publisher if it is rumored that Halo and other exclusive titles are being released on other platforms?

I believe they should wait for the official announcement before asking such a question.

Wait so you are saying that we have to wait for them to announce Halo and then they magically are officially third party. I mean Call of Duty alone makes them a third party publisher. At this point this all semantics. Microsoft is a third party publisher. And I totoally agree with you the question doest make any sense.... because clearly they already are.

I think they mean an entirely third party publisher. No console exclusives.

I think you need to take a step back and think about the argument you are bringing forward.

Is playstation a 3rd party publisher for publishing MLB the show on Xbox?

Was Xbox considered a 3rd party publisher when they continued to put Minecraft on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Android, and IOS after acquiring them a decade ago?

I am sure your answer to these questions would be absolutely not.

As of this date, January 16, 2024, none of Microsoft's biggest IPs have been officially announced for PlayStation. We haven't heard about the porting of any of their Holy Trinity, which we all know is Halo, Gears, and Forza. We have only received rumors so far.

A rumor doesn't make them officially anything until they make an official announcement.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit11d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing11d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
