Report: Sony Bend New IP In-Development Screenshots Surface

Due to the slip of a former Bend Studio employee, we might have an early look at the next project from the team behind Days Gone.

-Foxtrot529d ago

“focused on a live service model instead of a sequel”

…*sigh*

Shane Kim528d ago

One can pray for it to happen.

Redemption-64528d ago (Edited 528d ago )

Keep dreaming. Marvel Rivals, a live service game just came out and the numbers clearly shows a lot of people want these live service games. Also, the reason the studio decided to try a live service game is because Days Gone didn't clearly underperformed and no, selling 9 million when your gave is heavily discounted isn't good. I can't tell you how many times I came across people who said they got it on a discount and are mad at Sony/Bend for not giving them a sequel to a game they refused to support at full price. Can't blame them for wanting to try something new

oof46528d ago

@Redemption: Marvel Rivals works because they use a popular IP and characters that people love and want to play as.

Cacabunga528d ago

For sure! I can’t wait but what a waste

Michiel1989528d ago

@redemption, because the initial launch numbers are reflective of the audience that will stick? It's a marvel game with so many heroes so ofc it's gonna attract a massive audience at launch, this literally says nothing about the longevity of the game. Overwatch 2 had a massive playerbase when they just launched it and look at it now, a lot of the people have moved away from it.

Redemption-64528d ago

@oof46

And? It's still a live service game. Saying a game is DOA just because it's a live service is pure ignorance, especially when you see these games not only make the most money, more people play them and one just dropped that is doing numbers.

Redemption-64528d ago (Edited 528d ago )

@Michiel1989

Overwatch 2 is still averaging 20 millions of players each month. The game has been out for over 2 years, with the franchise being out for over 8 years. The reason overwatch 2 is numbers are down is due to all the failed promises the studio made and the fact that the IP has remained relevant for years. Using overwatch 2 is such a poor example, especially since the game still has millions of players each month. Some people turn to just look at steam numbers will ignoring the other platforms the game is one

Helldivers was not dead on arrival. Didn’t it win a game of the year or something?

I was overjoyed seeing the title and then i read your comment.

This sucks!!!!!!!!!!

S2Killinit528d ago

Looking forward to see what they got.

CrimsonWing69528d ago (Edited 528d ago )

I will not support this; I just will not cave in to this model and industry push. It will forever change the industry if these become accepted and profitable, and the change won’t be for the better. Literally, corporations are seeing where money can be made and forcing a greedy-a** model down consumers' throats at this point. I grew up with gaming in the '90s, where it was continuously expanding on ideas through passion, and companies would allow the risk of experimentation. Now, it's all about how to make something that gives them the most money. Oh, you have an idea that is NOT a guaranteed success? Not going to take a chance. Oh hey, we have a popular series? Let's make the next entry GaaS and completely anemic of content while expecting continual monetization as we knda build to what might be a "full-game."

Pepsi_Man3000528d ago

We are going full fucking speed into the wrong direction. Now on top of the usual lifeless AAA stuff we have to worry about live service possibly becoming bigger. I grew up in the 2000s so our gaming experiences should be similar. I still often question how we got here from the amazing days of the ps2 era.

E3 is gone, we dont get manuals anymore, theyre slowly trying to push physical games out the door entirely, game magazines are dying, crazy amount of layoffs, this fuckass live service bullshit, insane budgets and large amounts of money being straight WASTED, so many develoeprs who still make classic fun and innovative games, a lot of the time complete packages without being busted on release or without having any dlc, not getting their deserved support. Like what the fuck is even happening?

CrimsonWing69528d ago (Edited 528d ago )

@Pepsi

I’m with you, man. I’m slowly seeing more and more people accept this model. Like, I can’t tell you how many people say, “But this is Live Service done right.”

Every time I hear that it makes me want to puke my f*cking guts out. I rarely ever see anyone question WHY they decided to go with the GaaS model instead of a traditional design and the only reason is MONETIZATION.

I mean look at what happened to the Arkham series for chrissakes and all the Gacha games being popular, the industry chases trends. It’s all about this model makes more money than this model so let’s make ALL games like this. You can bet dollars to donuts if corporate had their way, every f*cking game would be like a mobile game with pay walls, ridiculous menus to navigate that are all about buying this and that, purposefully making the game an absolute chore to progress without paying money to alleviate the grind, it’s absolutely disgusting.

And what’s crazy is GaaS success does not have a great track record. It’s like 1 out of 10 make it and how does it make any sense to make so many of these and expect a consumer to dump continuous money into all of them.

It’s so annoying and I’m sickened that Sony is still pushing for this.

VivaLaManual528d ago

It's weird that devs keep going back to that. Like I don't get it.

niiopi528d ago

All speculation, the article does not explicitly say this. This is whats wrong with most Americans, you all will believe anything you read. It does say that the team would rather work on a new IP than a sequel.

thesoftware730528d ago

"This is whats wrong with most Americans"

So only Americans believe what they read on the Internet?

What a ridiculous assumption, as the Internet is used for information, propaganda, truth, and lies all over the world.

niiopi528d ago

@software730 didnt say "only americans" nor did I imply "all". I would argue, this site's traffic is mostly americans though and we have seen how most americans love gobbling up propaganda. Look at the replies to a comment implying a quote, which doesn't exist. You may be triggered by what I said but the proof is in the pudding.

-Foxtrot528d ago

Not even American but sure...

DarXyde528d ago

Feels like they're looking for a reason to close Bend at this point.

Oh yes. I understand the whole follow-the-leader group thought thing but I won't condemn something I haven't seen yet My most played game this year was Helldivers 2 a third person shooter live service game. I'm really done with the autohate thing. Cheers!

ocelot07528d ago

Yer that's true. Helldivers is still great fun. Just don't like to many live service focus games.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio24d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing24d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9224d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit24d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing24d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9224d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
