VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "While not carrying the same heft it enjoyed long ago, last year was one of the adventure genre's most commercially-successful years in this century. A Telltale-esque adventure eclipsing 3 million sales in three months would be the talk of the town were it not for another adventure game hurdling over 10 million sales in two. Though not all finalists reached those heights, each did share a greater amount of spotlight compared to similar titles within their respective sub-genres.
Past any sales thresholds and popularity contests, 2025 also deserves credit for its creativity; the last time our entire shortlist consisted exclusively of new IPs was for Best Adventure Game of 2020. An impressive year for the genre, with even greater potential ahead."
Inti Creates’ vibrant action platformer Majogami will shed its Switch console exclusivity and strike PS5 on 28th May, the Japanese dev has announced.

Bandai Namco announced today that its popular flight simulator-lite Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown has passed another sales milestone.
I don't know how to feel about this, I mean it's a fantastic expansion but I feel DLC / Expansions should have their own category.
It's now got a super high chance to get the award now which is a shame towards any brand new game that's up for it this year like Astro Bot or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
As the games industry wasn´t lacking of new and creative games enough.
That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, just put a DLC category. While you're at it remove all the other pointless categories. They have too many of em and they literally blow thru em all during the half hour preshow. Less time on pointless awards and performances means more time on letting devs actually get their fair time on the spotlight. I swear if Kojima gets another 10 minutes this year I'm so done with this shite.
When I think of GotY I think of a game that’s knocked it out in gameplay, audio/music, graphics/environmental design, story, and just a title that stands out among everything in the entire year.
It’s hard for me to think DLC can beat out something like FF7 Rebirth, but… if it hits the marks who am I to argue? I will say, for me personally, I did not think Erdtree was better than the base game of Elden Ring.
That seems like a fair call for a pretty flawed award show. I mean, is Shadow of the Erdtree really less of a full game than the new Yakuza? It’s just as big, reuses about the same amount of assets, and probably even has more original content.
Then there's the obvious issue with the expansions/DLC category. First off, we don’t get something on the level of Shadow of the Erdtree every year. Second, how do GAS like Destiny, Genshin Impact, and others would work if that category is created? Technically, they’re ongoing games that get major updates every year, pushing the main experience forward. So, would they count as DLC?
It would just be a mess. Going case by case when a truly standout expansion or DLC comes around is probably the best way to handle it.
