A $700 console doesn't measure up to a still $600 GPU?

RaidenBlack526d ago (Edited 526d ago )

"No - but Game Boost still makes this the best console experience out there." ~ DF

lukasmain526d ago

But this isn't specifically a PS5 PRO patch correct? This is just natural boost mode when you pop the game in.

I wonder if From will release a specific PS5 PRO patch? Hope they do

Babadook7525d ago

@potatoseal

Yes.

And of course this particular game is going to be CPU bound much more than GPU bound and so this is in no way a typical or fair way to compare the hardware.

Fishy Fingers526d ago

Where you shopping? An rx6800 is nearly half that. $350.

Christopher525d ago

If you buy pre-owned on eBay, sure. Otherwise, no, no it's not.

Just got to shop around mate, little retailer like Amazon. Worth bookmarking.

an RDNA2 card, vs. the RDNA 3/4 hybrid that is in Pro.

So you can buy a GPU that beats the PS5 Pro (at least on Boost mode) for literally half the price of the console?

Interesting. Thanks for the info. And the link.

Sonic1881524d ago (Edited 524d ago )

It's obvious that the PS5 CPU is holding back the PS5 pro. But it's still the most powerful console out there and the best you're going to get LMAO. If that's not good enough for you then invest in a PC

@Obscure_Observer

It's not going to help your case because the Xbox series X is still inferior and weaker than the PS5 Pro. The biggest comparison will be GTA6 running in 60fps on the PS5 Pro and 30fps on the Series S/X. Btw Microsoft is selling the Series X for $600 dollars but no one ain't taking about that

You can get the RX 6800 GPU for $350 on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=...

When the PS5 launched a few years ago, the price to performance ratio was better for current gen consoles, however, there has been new GPU generations where AMD moved from RX6000 to RX7000 and Nvidia went from RTX 3000 to RTX 4000 with a new generation set to start next year. This has allowed the RX 6000 GPUs to come down in price making it possible to build a PC that is better than the PS5 Pro around that $700 price point assuming you use brand new parts. If you are willing to use a used GPU, then you can swap out that RX 6800 for an RTX 3080.

One of the reasons for the huge backlash on the price is because unlike with the launch of the base PS5, Sony is pricing the pro for profit because of no competition.

andy85525d ago

Even if it was equal to a 6800 (which it isn't) that's 350 for the GPU alone. Then the CPU and RAM are 150+. SSD is over 100. That's 600 still with parts missing and an inferior GPU and charging 700. I'll never believe it's priced for profit. I don't think they're really making anything on it.

mkis007525d ago

Pricing it due to the economy of scale. They only expect to sell 10% the amount of regular ps5's...you can't order parts at cheaper prices with the loss of bulk buying.

S2Killinit525d ago

But xbox series x with the same size hard drive as the PS5Pro is going for a mere $100 less…

kayoss525d ago (Edited 525d ago )

If i buy the RX6800, where do i put the disc in. Does the Rx6800 attach to anything? I dont understand these comparison. People always point out that you can buy the RX 6800 for half the price of a Pro, but always fail to mention about all the other components needed to use the RX 6800. Not only that, but the optimization that the Pro provides.

Did you really just compare a full system at $700 to a gpu by itself for $600 non sarcastically? I hope I missed the sarcasm.

mkis007525d ago

Same argument then, just slightly less ridiculous ; 700 full system to 350 just the gpu... still need a cpu that won't drop frames the same as well as the rest of the parts.

Fadehread525d ago (Edited 525d ago )

@mkis007
Assuming you don't already have a PC. If we're treating a pro console as an upgrade, then same comparison can be made with a GPU as an upgrade to an already existing system. Since PCs have the luxury of not requiring replacement of the entire thing to improve performance, let's use something from before the PS5 released. For example, a 9900K from six years ago would barely bottleneck a 4070 Ti Super, a GPU that costs roughly the same as a PS5 Pro(including the optical drive attachment to keep playing games you've already paid for). It would still be an upgrade that surpasses the PS5 Pro significantly in performance.

anast525d ago

Of course, No one needs a motherboard etc for a gaming PC to function...

TOTSUKO525d ago (Edited 525d ago )

Wtf do I do with a gpu? Does it come with a mouse and keyboard? How do I store games on it? How the fck do I power it up!?

jznrpg526d ago

This is without a specific patch. It seems easy to implement so hopefully they do it

darthv72525d ago

..well thanks to VRR, they wont.

Eonjay525d ago

Doesn't really need a Pro Patch. What it needs is a patch to fix the DRS which is broken. Several DRS games are not workign right on the PRO including FF16. It is improved, obviously, but its not addressing the rest of the actual hardware. So its probably even a quicker fix.

slate91525d ago

Wait, consoles been running this at 30fps??

Bathyj525d ago

No.
Trying for 60 and failing.
Pretty close to 60 locked now without a patch.

darthv72525d ago

How's that old saying go... close is only good in horseshoes and hand grenades.

Bathyj525d ago

It's a substantial improvement Darth and the beat way to play on console. Are you going to stand your ground and say anything not perfect is not worth having?

And should I mention it again? No patch.

DivineHand125525d ago

I played Elden Ring on the Xbox Series X and didn't know it had issues with framerates. I have a 120 hz display so it seems I was playing in VRR the whole time and didn't know.

northpaws525d ago

Elden Ring is a good game, but a badly optimized one.

why is that dumb? It's the same price everywhere else.

repsahj6d ago

Because it's Nintendo. Post negative first before analizing.

LiViNgLeGaCY6d ago

Because this is the ONLY version you can buy on the S2, correct? I don't think you can buy just the game for $60 like the other platforms. And if I'm wrong about this, then I take it back.

LiViNgLeGaCY6d ago

@repsahj - Dude, shut up. I like Nintendo a lot, actually. I just want the option to get the base game for $60 WITHOUT the DLC. I've done plenty of "analyzing".

Neonridr7d ago

Before anyone complains, this is the same price on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. It comes with the Game and the DLC.

Elda7d ago

The game is $40 & the expansion is $40 so the price is right.

VersusDMC7d ago

The standard edition physical should have been 40 then with the expansion seperate. Why normalize 80 dollar games? Specially ports of old games.

If people accept this might as well make physical 80 dollar deluxe versions only.

repsahj6d ago

This $80 version is also available on PS5 and XSX.

VersusDMC6d ago

@repsahj

The ps5 has the standard version and the 80$ version so it gives you the choice...on switch 2 physical you can only buy the 80 dollar version.

I guess since they got the data that less than half of elden ring players beat the game and would probably not buy the DLC, they decided to just not make it an option and charge more...

GotGame8186d ago

Like it or not, the vast majority of game sales are digital. Just like movies, and music. At least Gamekey cards are shareable and you can sell them.
