Oh let's write an article about something obvious.

Obscure_Observer603d ago

Yeah... since those have different designs, I thought it was obvious.

mudakoshaka603d ago

It is for that reason that the designs are different. So you need to buy new face plates in case you already have some.

goken603d ago

Some people hoped that somehow the impossible is possible…

--Onilink--603d ago

It seemed possible, to the point that being incompatible is very likely a business choice.

Slim uses 2 plates separated by a small space.
The Pro has a bigger middle space but its also taller.

It wasnt really that far fetched to think the height difference could have just been that extra size in the gap and the plates themselves were the same size

just_looken602d ago

Some people still thought sony would not price gouge again but nope more ewaist nothing like a face plate per playstation model.

You now walk into a store and see 3 face plates different cost same design like why? oh right sony greed there was 0 non financial reasons to go this way.

Tacoboto603d ago

I 100% thought that they'd be compatible. In the spirit of the interchangeable disc drive, it makes manufacturing sense.

The size of the covers look identical in shape and size if you think of the black vents as essentially just spacers.

But - It's becoming clearer though that they really are a part of the shell design on the Pro.

just_looken602d ago

If we support this then they might add a different slot or add a specific plastic tab so you need a "pro" drive for the pro model then a slim drive for the slim model.

DazaMc602d ago

You are 100% correct and I bet they will be fully compatible.

Pyrofire95602d ago (Edited 602d ago )

it's not obvious. Plenty of people had suspected the center fins are only an extension and the rest is a match for the slim model.
also not even the article is sure despite it pretending it is in the headline. It only says "likely", so it's just as much speculation either way.

northpaws601d ago

It is not obvious at all...

The looks literally the same size from this POV. And they can both use the slim disc drive, which wouldn't be possible if they shapes are different.

mudakoshaka598d ago

Still thinking the sizes/designs were different? It is the same size!! Retards. Sony is just doing an Apple.

1. Why is the headline written as matter of fact but the actual article is speculative? Well, we know the answer.

2. Did anyone look at both of these pieces of hardware, thinking it would fit? Did anyone get a good look at the Xbox One X prior to launch thinking it would support the Kinect without an adapter?

What are we talking about here?

Neonridr603d ago

while the Pro sits a little taller, that could simply be due to the thicker stripe on the side. It could have still been possible that the Slim faceplate would still work and the upper portion would merely sit a little higher. The lower portions look identical.

mudakoshaka598d ago

It is the same size. Sony is just doing an Apple.

People are so stupid. Thinking the sizes were different. It is the same size!! Retards. Sony is just doing an Apple.

Let me guess, and the PS5 Slim does not support PS5 Pro face plates?

Mr_cheese603d ago (Edited 603d ago )

You'll have to wait for the next "article" to find out

Profchaos603d ago (Edited 603d ago )

It's obvious but it would have been nice to have a more uniform approach to faceplate sales from Sony like the option to buy the same design across standard, standard digital slim and pro.

Right now it seems a bit disjointed as to what's on offer.

Also I wish they would offer faceplates for the 30th anniversary seems like a huge miss as their most hardcore favs will have a standard ps5 or a pro
